Have your child explore lines by making a colorful line drawing.
Discuss the different types of lines: horizontal, vertical, thick, thin, curved, wavy or zigzag. Have your child draw different lines on paper and have him name each type of line.
Ask your child to draw with only straight lines. Explain that the lines can intersect, be thick, thin, horizontal or vertical. With a black crayon have your child draw no more than ten straight lines across the paper beginning at one side of the paper and working through to the other side. When he's done drawing the lines ask him what shapes he notices. Then have him color in all the shapes using various colored crayons.
