I graduated from Arab High School, and having just completed my associate's degree on my way to my bachelor's, I can say with all confidence that I was better prepared in most cases than students from a lot of other schools in my area. I was blessed to have several great teachers who worked with me, and who heavily influenced my desire to teach one day. The school does have high expectations of its students, but those expectations require us to expect great things of ourselves. I'd love to come back in a few years as a teacher, and I would recommend the Arab school system to anyone who wants to be challenged to excel.
I just sent a lengthy comment on your band that was in Chicago, Il. last weekent(l7March2012.
I am currently enrolled as a sophomore at Arab High School, and I love it! Most people believe that Arab is a school full of rednecks and sluts, but i can truthfully tell you that it's not. Everyone gets along with pretty much everyone. If Arab enrolls new students, they will fit in within the first five minutes their there. Now, the teachers... well, they are just wonderful. I love my teachers, and even the teachers I don't have. They don't just make you do work work work, all the time, they also, like to have fun while they teach. Yes, the classes are hard, but doesn't that better prepare you for life ahead of you? Yes, it does. I am in Honors English 10 at the moment, and my teacher teaches this specific course as a college class. Yes, its hard, but I am glad she does it that way, because it prepares me. Extra ciricular activities are great! The sports teams this year have excelled so much. Like our football team takin us to the 2nd round of playoffs this year. Everything about this school is great, and i am glad to say, I'm part of this school district. :)
Arab is interesting. Very clickish. Almost impossible for new students to fit in. If you conform to the idealistic rules set by the administration (Principle to the teachers) at Arab High, then the staff will not bother you. Beware... read all the fine print! Rules are left up to staff members interpretation. No clarity from the Principle or Vice on the rules which leads to confusion by the students. They promote all students are the same. No individualism. Students beware of atheletics program. If you have an interest in any sport other than the traditional programs, look to another school.
I, too, am a student at Arab High School, and I am fully confident it is one of the best in state. We are always first and second in our test scores, such as the Alabama Reading and Mathematics exam, and our number of kids who pass the graduation exam are almost a perfect 100%. Quality education and great teachers. The extra curricular activites are great, too! Everyone can find something they're interested in. The musical theatre productions are Broadway quality, and have been nationally recognized at the Thespian Festival in Nebraska, where they also performed. The choral groups are among the best in the state, as well. I would highly recommend this school.
I am a student at Arab High School, and I believe it has to be the best, school I have ever gone to. It has wonderful people, and no one taunts or teases other people. It has wonderful teachers, students, and faculty. They have an excellent band program, as well as excellent sports teams. They also have high expectations and are very good at teaching students life lessons. I believe AHS has taught me valuble life lessons. I reccomend anybody come to it.
I can honestly say that by going to Arab High School that I was better prepared for college than others. The teachers are very good, the material and subject matter is diverse, and for the most part they care about you as an individual and want you to succeed.
The best learning environment I have been a part of. Student to teacher ratio at the Junior high and High school level is oneof the best in the state. Teachers are uniquely qualified in their fields of instruction with a large porportion of Masters Degrees. Counseling is a priority and students receive timely and pertenent feedback on progress, or lack of. Extracirricular activities are complete and while the teams are not state ranked, the community supports them as if they were. A great education experience for all levels.
I am a recent graduate of Arab High School and would recommend the school to anyone. The principal is top notch, and is never less than fair with the students. The assistant principals are good by most standards, but pale beside the principal. The student body is less 'clique-y' than most school systems. Yes, you have 'jocks', and 'preps', and 'nerds', but you have these at any school, and most people got along great with one another. I was in the band program all 4 years, and was rarely insulted by any athletes, and when we were the coaches immediately stopped it. The extracurricular activites are incredible, the band, choir, musical theatre, robotics, math teams, and scholar's bowl teams have all received numerous medals and trophies at contests nationwide. Our lady's basketball team was 2nd in the state 2 years running. I feel any student would love their time at AHS.
I researched this system before moving to Arab. Both of my children graduated from AHS, both of them went on to graduate from UA. My daughter is now a teacher and realizes how fortunate she was to have attended such a great school. Both of my children were well prepared for college work because of the high expectations at Arab and the availability of quality teachers and even dual placement courses. Both of my children participated in extra-curricular activities-as I think all children should. Yes, it is clickish--but no more so than any other small town school. And, yes, athletes get better treatment-from coaches/teachers just like any other school. However, everyone is held to high standards and everyone is offered a quality education.
I am a student at AHS, and this is what I have to say...Arab High School is a great school for all types of students. The teacher's at this school are very helpful and each teacher can relate to each student. They don't only teach your child the best way to excel in their academics, but also about important life lessons(including most manners). The teacher's are just wonderful. The students are great too, there is a very wide verity of students at this school, and most everyone is friendly and helpful. There are hardly any fights or 'BIG ISSUES' at this school. They also offer many different programs like Agriculture, Drafting, Fashion and Interior Design, Band, almost all sports, computer design and web development classes, health care and of course all different levels of excellent academics. This school in my opinion is as close to perfect as it gets.
I have 2 children that have attended Arab City Schools for the past 6 years and I am very pleased with the teachers and staff. I feel my children have been given lots of opportunities they would not have received at other schools in this area. The teachers have been nothing short of excellent in helping when my children have had problems with any academics and I am very appreciative of all their hard work and it shows in their test scores. Keep up the good work!
I have two children in this school system. We came here for the high test scores and the area. Now we realize the tests scores are not everything. This school can be very, very clickish...as many others are. If you like sports or have an accelerated student...this is the place for you. We have some good programs at this school. We also have a great band program...but so many people in this area focus on the sports programs and forget about the band program. The area is nice and laid back.
I have two children in the Arab school system not yet in high school, but my exchange student will be attending school here in the 06-07 school year and I am very excited about Jacqueline attending school here from Germany. Mr. Crowder, Mr. Mullins, Coach Flack, etc. have been very helpful with talking to me about exchange students. The counselors and staff here are above the call of duty and we hope to have a very rewarding year here with our German girl. Thanks to all of you and to Jacqueline's future friends and teachers. have a great summer and enjoy! Also Good Luck to Katerina from Czech Repbulic that will be also attending school here at Arab. Have a great year to all of you.
I am a student at this school and it has a good quality of extra curricular activities. But the teacher and student quality isint that great. If your quiet and not a football player or cheerleader, your not treated as great as the other 'popular students', so if you are not popular, try another school.
Its a great community school and its as close to a private school as you will get and still be private. I now attend the University of Alabama because Arab demanded things from me that I KNOW BMHS would not. Arab has developed great vocational programs that BMHS does not even offer. If you are interested in more opportunities, more competition, better atmosphere, and higher standards- send your child to Arab High School
Arab has excellent academic programs to offer. I love the school, it is clean and a wonderful enviroment for young adults. There are many extracurricular activities to choose from. They help children to get involved. There is much parent involvement also.
I have two children who have attended AHS and have been very impressed with the quality of education that they have received and the variety of learning opportunities that they have been offered. Most of the teachers seem to really care about the students and are open to communicating with parents about their progress. The city school board is made up of concerned individuals who are appointed, not elected, so they have no political agendas to impede their decisions. The schools have very high SAT scores and have ranked high on just about every scorecard that has been used to evaluate them. The Arab City Schools are why we moved to Arab years ago. I am very active in the programs at the school and am very proud to say that my children have attended school here.
This school is not very well equipped to fit my child's learning needs. I recommend sending your child to another school, perhaps Brindlee Mountain. I did, and now my child doesn't have to go to Sylvan Learning Center anymore.
I am a former student of Arab High school (and Arab City Schools)and I would recommend any parent looking for a great school system and city to send their children to Arab.
