Bessemer Academy is a family-oriented school. With classes from K-3 to 12th grade, it presents a wonderful continuum of opportunities for all -even the Friday night football atmosphere is uplifting. A Christian basis keeps all things in perspective. A very qualified faculty prepares students for the next stage of the lives. Mrs. Kelly is a superb administrator and expects the best efforts of faculty, staff, and students. The school is heading in a very positive and competitive direction and gives parents an excellent alternative to public education.

Great environment for children. The Headmaster is energetic and visionary. New additions to the faculty and the continued efforts of existing staff make the school a great value.

Bessemer Academy has been the absolute best decision that we ever made for our children. There is a caring atmosphere & the kids are very well behaved. Julie Kelly does an awesome job as headmaster. I would recommend anybody to give it a try!

Bessemer Academy is first and foremost a football oriented school. Mathematics is very strong at Bessemer Academy due to Ms.Osment's presence.

The level and quality of instruction is of very poor quality. Using the A Beka workbooks, students spend most of the day working out of the workbooks and what is not completed students finish for homework. BA believe's that having a rigourous curriculum is enough---they don't understand that this is just half of the picture. They are a 'one-trick pony.' If your child is not on level then tough---they can't teach him or her. They no nothing about differentiating instruction, using data to drive their decisions---kids at the very high end will receive the same instruction as all others-

Bessemer Academy is a good school with christian values. The academics are improving. Extracurricular needs no improvement. Teachers and the Headmaster seem to be more 'caring' than in the public school system. Parent involvement should be equally divided in all aspects of the school not only certain extracurricular activities and possibly more so in academics.

Quality of teachers: Essentially no fine arts or music programs. Sports is emphasized at this school, but we found it to be pretty disorganized over the 2-3 years we were there. Parental involvement: Minimal. They change headmasters every year or two also. Teachers change frequently from year to year.

Bessemer Academy is a great school. The headmaster is doing a great job trying to get students, parents, and teachers to work together. The school definately has some problems it is working on. The parents seem to forget it is a private school with no funds coming to it from the state, county or city. They do not realize that everything the students get come from parents helping out. Parent participation is the only real complaint I have about BA.
