Corner Theatre Academy is one of the best programs to be involved with in Alabama. I would highly recommend coming to Corner for theatre or if you are interested in any other type of fine art.

This school was a nightmare for my granddaughter. She was bullied throughout the year, insulted by teachers, had food thrown at her, and was even punched in the chest by another student who was not punished according to school policy. I spent the entire year trying to get help to no avail. I eventually had to notify the state board of education. They could not fix her gpa which was sabotaged by the theater teacher but they have taken action to try and prevent other children from suffering in this school. Would not ever recommend this school.

I believe this school is several notches above the rest. It has so much to offer from advanced placement courses to several extracurricular programs. It has a newly formed theatre academy, athletics, band, choir, art, career technical programs plus offers on-campus college courses. It has many highly qualified teachers and teachers who are involved in all aspects of school life.

I graduated from Corner High in '11 and I am a proud alumni! Every school has ups and downs just like Corner, it is a high school! The classes just keep getting better with the new school. Teachers will go all out to help their students. This school with each different program is like a family. Just get into a sport, theater, band, etc. I hope that one day when I have children they will go here.

I am a Senior at Corner High School and have been here all my life. I have already taken numrous college classes and have been prepared for every one of them. Not only was I prepared, I made an A in each class. My older sister graduated from Corner and is now a nursing graduate of UAB. This school is wonderful! Yes some of the teachers need to start doing their jobs, but for the most part the teachers really care and try and help the kids! Lack of parent involvment is the big issue at Corner. As for the new school...it is amazing! Completly up to date and beautiful! I can not wait to start college and I thank Corner for that! Congrats class of 2012!!! We did it!!! (well, at least we are almost there)

My child just began Corner High School when school began this year as he is in the 9th grade. As of yet,not that am at all looking for,he has not had any problems, other than the typical anxiety from going from one school to another. which is very common. my ex-wife and I have taught in public schools for over 35 1/2 years. she has taught at multiple schools, while I always worked at the first, large 6A school that hired me and was involved with about as many activities, mainly varsity football, that you could imagine ,sometimes working as many as 19-20 hours a day, especially in football season. My point here is that me and my x ,who chose to move out to the Sayre area have much experience with children from all walks of life, especially myself, much more than her. my children attended the Bagley school, which was a great experience! Many people mention DIVERSITY in their comments : which literally means difference or variety---as common sense dictates to us that clearly comes from the area we chose to live in. it is NO ONES FAULT, BUT A CHOICE WE MAKE! YOU CAN ALWAYS CHANGE THIS! Corner seems like a great place to me with excellent teachers/staff. Time will tell.we are happy so far!

Corner high school is full of bullying and sheltered students. They do not prepare the students for the real world. As for the faculty there are teachers that throw books office faculty that talk to you AFTER they finish gossiping with each other. As for diversity? There is none and if a person of different nationality attends corner many students will do their best to for e them out by harassment verbal and physical abuse racist remarks and flying the rebel flag. I am a former student there and if you're considering corner as your child's school, don't. RUN. A bigger school with more diversity is best. I have attended big city schools and small country schools and the bigger more culturally diverse schools better prepare you for real life.

This school is a down right shame. I removed my child after being bullied and name called and depression evident! and no teacher or official doing anything to stop it! I suppose I could call the parents of the ones causing the problems but that is hard to do when it is the teachers that are the bullies!! I would not recomend this school to anyone! the faculty is terrible! they are there to get a pay check, they don't care anything about the kids! My child is not alone I know of 25 to 30 students who have left for reasons similar to this! Shame on you Corner high school!!

From what I have heard the children saying about the school, it must be very boring and the teachers must not be too concerned. They are taking pictures of kids sleeping in class, doing nails in class, and in general, just goofing off. How can these kids be ready for college in an atmosphere like this? Our kids and grandkids need to go to college. Are they getting prepared at Corner? I believe someone needs to take action now, not later.

I am not impressed at all. There are some good teachers, but several are just downright terrible. They don't care about the kids and don't want to put any extra effort in seeing that they learn. I am very very disappointed.

Corner School is very boring and I know i'm a student but honestly its not because I hate work its because the teachers rarely do anything to give me a reason to get me interested in the work. I've even been told by some of the teachers that I dont need some of the subjects that we work on,that I could even go through life without having to learn Algebra. I may be a student but this is rediculous.

Corner is a great school that offers all k-12 grades. I will be freshmen in 2009 school year, and throughout my school years I can guarantee you corner is a great school. With magnificent teachers and employees we very infrequently have any hostility not so with several other schools. So if you are a parent or legal guardian select Corner, for your child, if you are looking for a secure and promising school. Thank you for your time.

I graduated here and made the decision to also send my 3 children here. My husband attended a very diverse school and we both are making it fine. After reading the reviews reguarding lack of diversity I wanted to respond with, I went to school with only white children but was always taught that we are all the same. Diversity is taught in the home and we as parents are lacking to teach and expecting our teachers to do so. Children go to school for an education not to be taught diversity, moral, faith, character and values. As a whole our generation of parents are lacking in what we teach as mothers and fathers and expect our teachers to be more than teachers. If we would all teach our children to love with Gods love and pray for your teachers and administration all schools would change.

Corner does a very poor job at making the students understand the real world. The students believe that the school and that community is the entire world. The school would be much improved with a new principal and students with diversity. The way it is now, students only know individuals just like themselves.

Corner High School is an aweful school. It could use a lot of improvment. We do not have a principal who cares. I wish that Coach Harrison would teach the AP math classes, becasue he is a wonderful teacher who cares for every student. He has come up with so many tricks to help the students to understand all of the problems. We need a new principal and i can't wait till the new school is built. =)

My husband and I are both graduates of Corner High School and are thrilled to find our children students at Corner Elementary. We have found that our children are not only being held to high academic standards but also the moral, Christian standards that we expect. All of our teachers have been superior and Mr. Manning and Mrs. Brasher are beyond wonderful in that they both love and protect our children but also have extremly high expectations of them. I can't say enough positives about the school. From the bus drivers, office staff and lunchroom workers to the teachers and administration, I don't think a better school exists. We feel blessed to belong to this community. Brian and Lori Otts

We moved about 5 years ago just to send my child to Corner Schools. The school has a great small town fill. Thats why I think the kids get overlooked sometimes. We are getting a new school even though my child will never see it. The sports programs have so many new coaches it's hard on the kids ajusting to that. But over all it's the best school in the area.

I recently moved my family to Corner and I 3 kids enrolled in high school 8th,10th and 12th grade. The school is lacking a lot of leadership and we find the teachers unwilling to work with us in helping our children succeed and gain an education. The counselors, vice principal and teachers seem to be in the dark about anything we ask our kids. We have tried on numerous occasions to attempt to improve the communications between our children, the teachers and the parents. I would hope that anyone considering sending the children to Corner High School look elsewhere. Children should be treated with the same respect as adults and given the opportunity to gain a quality education. My oldest child only needs help in one class to graduate. The vice principal and teacher told him he is a poor student, this is not teaching!

corner high school was a great school. like most school you have teachers who hang on to long such as corner does in there senior level course, the history department needs alot of work too from 10-12 becuase going into college i found teachers who could teach it and i had to relearn alot of things i should have known before going in. all around corner in a pretty good place to send your kids. mild violence friendly staff and great elementary and middle school. Once they get the high school with some fresh faces and people eager to teach instead of complain it will be much better .

I have 3 children that attend corner school. I find that the joint high school and elementary gives the school a greater feeling of community. The students begin and end their school careers involved in a magnitude of extra curricular activities. I have found that corner gives my children a complete education. Many times I find that my children are attempting things in math and reading that other people's children have not even begun to attempt. The teacher's and staff at the school all have the best interest of my children at heart. Some of my favorite teachers have been Mrs. Hardin(deceased), Mrs.Byrd, Mrs. Hardimen, Mr. Putman, and Mrs. Calvert. All have high expectations and are great teachers. As to the matter of cultural diversity, Corner is a mostly'white protestant' school. However, the students are taught at school and at home to respect other races, cultures, and religions.

I will also agree that Corner High School is not the best but it was surely enough for me. As I write this I am sitting at my desk in my dorm room. I was more prepared for college than alot of the students who graduated from surrounding schools of jefferson county, who attend my school now. I can also tell you that you will not find a better performing arts class than CHS Theater Department. You will find a Teacher who is devoted to his students and he will support and guide them both and and out of the class. Because of the experience I was able to gain in that dept, I was able to adjust to my theater dept. at the university with ease. I highly encourage the people who read this to take a more in depth look at the school and see for themselves. Thankyou.

Corner is a great school but, it does not really prepare students for the real world. I thought for a long time that the world view was what I had been taught at Corner. My children have been taught that same view. It is a very sheltered point of view. Granted I have appreciated the close knit school and community experience but, the world outside of the Corner community is so much more different and not necessarily bad. There is no cultural diversity. All people are not brought up in custom built homes and get a car or truck when they turn sixteen. Everybody's parents can't afford limousines for prom. I am not saying that these things are wrong. They are not they are blessings, but kids just shouldn't be raised in a bubble.

I have two children that attend the Corner school. I personally think the school needs more diversity, a cleaner atmosphere and more of a leadership role from the staff that work there. Not to mention more parent involvement. I also have issues with the younger children and the high school students attending school in the same buildings and sometimes the same classes. There is a big difference between 7th graders and 12th graders. I feel the school could use alot of attention in areas that noone is considering.

We have two children that attend Corner School. We moved to this area for Corner School. As parents we would not want our children in any other school system. We love the teachers and staff. They all go out of their way to know each student, and to make them all feel welcome and comfortable! Thank you Mrs. Hawkins, Mrs. Moore, Mrs. Hardiman, Mrs. Franklin, Mrs. Green, and Mr. Coggins!

Corner is an excellent school. My husband and I went to Corner, and I am proud to say my children will go to Corner also. There are some excellent teachers at Corner of different races. As of a couple of years ago more children of different races began coming to Corner also. Teachers also teach about different religions and have books about different races by different authors of different races. Therefore, children are exposed to different races. Living in Corner is a blessing, and children learning at Corner is a blessing as well.

I am an alumni of Corner and had a great experience there. Looking back, I must say that the only downside to attending school there was the lack of diversity. In recent inquiries as to the status of diversity at the school I was shocked to find that it was still 100% white. In today's world, one cannot be truly educated unless they are exposed to people and cultures other than their own. It appears that the prevailing attitude at Corner is to remain lilly white at all cost. For the sake of your children, open your minds folks. While I enjoyed my CHS experiences, I don't think I would send my children there for this reason.

I have had the opportunity of sending 3 children to Corner. Their experiences at Corner have prepared them well for life after high school. The facilities are in dire need of upgrading but not at the expense of tearing the old buildings down. They add a sense of nostalgia to the campus. The teachers at Corner care a lot about their students and work hard at giving them the very best education possible in spite of limited resources. The extracurricular activities are excellent. The band is excellent, in spite of marching so many young students year after year. Mr. Coggin, band director, works very hard in providing the best possible for his students.

I think Corner is a great school. I would not change a thing except the condition in most of the building. The environment around Corner is safe and clean. I am in 7th grade and I've been here all my life and I work hard to be a 'A' honor roll student, but I couldn't have done without the help of the teachers at Corner.

My son graduated from Corner and his HS experience was wonderful. The big fish in a small pond atmosphere helped build character as well as enhanced self-esteem. The sports programs are excellent, although the basketball coach doesn't always do what's best for the players. The only downside to the school itself is the actual facility, which is in disrepair. The math curriculum is weak as far as preparing the student for a private college. Mrs. Vest prepared her students very well for college level english. Too bad she retired.

I am a parent of two Corner High School Graduates, and my youngest is graduating this year. I myself went to Corner as well. I believe that Corner is a great school. We all have wonderful memories at Corner. I feel proud to say my kids went to Corner. Corner's English dept. is especially impressive. Mrs. Vest had prepared them well. My oldest was in the Marching Band. It was a lot of fun to be a part of. They traveled all over, went to competitions, and were a very close group...it built a lot a great qualities in my child. I would recommend Corner as Wonderful, Safe, Caring, school with High quality standards.

I have 3 children at Corner. They have always been encouraged in every area they have been involved in. I am so pleased that my children are able to go to a school where the teachers care about not only the education of the children but also their well being. I would recommend Corner to anyone. The buildings at the High school do need updating. The Elementary has been added onto recently and the new area is great. We have a new playground for the kids that the parents, teachers and children worked hard for. Upgrades are needed but the test scores show that it doesn't hinder the learning environment.

I am the youngest of six children - the last of 3 that graduated from Corner. One of us has been in the Air National Guard for 20 something years, the next an x-ray technician, and I am in my sophomore year at UAB planning to follow in the footsteps of everyone's favorite teacher from Corner (Mr. Michael Lane Putman) and become an actress/ writer. The teachers at Corner always leave a lasting impression on their students. The nostalgia from the elderly buildings give it an air of its own. Yet, at the same time, the kids have a lot to learn from new technology. Lack of funding (and a little bit of neglect from the county) is the only thing keeping Corner behind. I don't have any bad memories from learning and growing at Corner High School! Go Jackets! Linda Roberts

The teachers and their committment to education is second to none. Every coach, band director, sponsor take their job very seriously, and expect nothing less from the students. I can't imagine sending my children anywhere else. The only downfall the school has is that the building is very old, the students have nothing state of the art as the schools do in our system, but our SAT scores just go to show that you don't have to have state of the art equipment, just committment, determination and hardwork from both students and faculty.
