First of all I graduated from PHS. It is a small school but has great faculty. My son began his first year at Parrish High this year. He is in the ninth grade.
I am currently a student at phs and i am in the seventh grade! i am new! and i love this school! it is just such an honor to be apart of such an excellent school! the academics here are wonderful! and the football team and the band are awesome! so you may hear a lot of derogatory things about parrish but the school is wonderful!
I am not a Parent but I am a student at PHS Parrish is a great school even though yes we have a few 'mean' teachers but so does every school. The students at our school are extremely friendly. The AHSGE was nearly passed by every student in our school, very few failed it and even fewer failed all of it. I myself passed every subject my first year taking it. Our school is very Sport related, we love our football, but we also care for our academics. we have a rule if our athletes do not have a C+ average or better they dont play. In the past our worst subject was math but since the addition of Coach Gray we have excelled in our goal of bettering ourselves. But all in all Parrish has a great building, great faculty, awesome students, it is an all around great school.
In being a former student of Parrish High, I agree with the former comment that History and English were Parrish's strong points in academics. I however don't agree with the statement about Parrish's math, which was the worst subject. I don't care who your mother was, the math 'teams' at Parrish High school consisted of five students (if that many) who were also the only students in the class itself. Parrish does get an A+ for student teacher ratio, considering about 3/4s of the students went to trade school. Football is definitely a primary focus of the school. I firmly believe a football player could commit murder at this school and get a pat on the back. The band program was an excellent experience although not very challenging. A female student at Parrish can happily join basketball, band, and softball, which is something that cannot be done at a larger school.
I don't understand the August 2004's comment about the math program. For years the math teams won or placed at the academic bowls. I know because my mother taught many of the math classes that participated.
Recently my brother transferred to Parrish to play football. We have never experienced such a warm and welcome reception as we did here. He has truly felt like he is a part of the school and the team from the first day. Coming from a place where his talent was not appreciated or allowed to grow, it is such a blessing to be a part of this family. It is a great place to be. Go Tornados!
I was a student at Parrish High School a few years ago and feel that PHS is one of the best schools in the area. I have since went on to college and feel that I am doing well mainly due to the knowledge I obtained at Parrish. This school is known for its great English and History teachers, but the biggest weakness is probably in the Mathematics areas. Overall this school has its priorities in line and does its best to teach content, although most schools in Alabama no longer do so and focus mainly on teaching to the test(standardized tests). I am very proud to be an alumnus of Parrish High School.
