Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I'm sorry but this school is horrible at hiring teachers. When my child was in fourth grade her paper was ripped to pieces just for doing it in class. The teacher spent all of her time texting in class while she was supposed to be teaching. Also she spent time telling stories all day.

I feel as though my daughter should be wearing a uniform to Northern Lights but thats just one persons opinion and when it comes down to it, it never hurts to see both sides of the spectrum. I like my hats and hoodies. Definite double standard when it comes to allowing individual expression at that school. Yes, they hold their students accountable and don't put up with slackers or unmotivated families because when your kids do start going here, you as a parent will be helping every night with homework. I only gave them three stars because of lack of welcoming I felt from just about all the staff. I realize the school is strict but there is no reason the staff should have no care or concern in the way they talk to you or your child. Yes, they do teach respect, but they won't be any nurturing involved in teaching respect. It feels more like 'YOU WILL RESPECT ME OR ELSE' Thats the ONE thing this school lacks is 'CARE AND CONCERN'... they have more a mentality of 'MOVE IT LOSE IT' so be prepared for a competitive atmosphere that Commends and Recognizes good grades and following everyone else. This is not a school that builds individualism and uniqueness.

It is a relief to see a school that has conservative, traditional values with such high expectations of its students.

Parent participation is huge which, I believe, helps the children to learn and grow. My son is in kindergarten and the program for him is teaching him responsibility, being a good citizen and learning for life!

NLABC is an optional school that re-inforces good behavior, along with important educational life skills. They have a complex grading system that encourages great study habbits as well as high expectations for every single student. There is a great deal of helpful PTA /Staff members. I love walking into that school and observing the behavior of the students walking in a straight line down the hall with their hands by their side, it makes me realize how lucky my daughter is to attend Northern Lights ABC. It is just as big of a commitment for the parents as it is for the children attending, which is great because it filters out anyone who isn't committed to getting an excellent education. The statistics that come from prior students of Northern Lights ABC are fantastic!

NLABC is full of professionals and parents who are committed to securing a sound educational foundation for our kids. What are thought of as old-fashioned fundamentals of reading, writing and math are the pillars of what becomes for most of these kids a love of life-long learning.

The teachers at NLABC regularly demonstrate boundless enthusiasm for their profession and are actively involved with all of the students in their care. I am confident this school offers an excellent learning experience to my children, both academically and as relates to the development of civic responsibility. This school is the 'complete package.'

The school requires foreign language and either choir, band, or orchestra in the junior high grades. The teachers stick around year after year because they like teaching here!

I went to Northern Lights ABC from 2nd grade to 7th grade. The only reason I left was to move state, and I'm sad that I can't find such a great school. I don't mind that there's no sports. The teachers are great, and so is the principal and I love the school! If any of my teachers see this, hi Mr. Coverdale, Mr. Bissell, Mr. DeMoss, Mrs. Neill, Miss Frackman, Mrs. Mckee, Sra. Hohnstein, Miss Wallace, Ms. Ireland, and Ms. Easton!!! <3 Shelby :)

This school was really focused on education and discipline. When I went into high school, I felt really prepared because i had been able to develop good habits at this school. I was taught the importance of always doing my homework, studying every night, and having good behavior, and when I went into high school you could really see how much more successful students that came from Northern Lights were compared to those that had attended other schools.

Northern Lights ABC K-8 is a very good school, considering discipline, parent involvement (that can be good and bad), teacher quality, and principal leadership. However, extracurrilar acvitvities are farther down the list. There are NO sports teams, clubs, etc. I think it could improve in such areas.
