We were very pleased with the quality of our son's education at Anderson. Don't be scared by the lack of a Great Schools Rating; it is a function of the types of standardized tests that go into the rating system. The elementary schools on Eielson are split in two; K-3 at Anderson and 3-6 at Crawford (we had sons at both). Our son attended the last quarter of his Kindergarten year and left at spring break in his second grade year. (both were a function of our military-related moves) We found the class sizes and academic curriculium to be comperable to most of the other schools we have had our children at throughout the country. The teachers, in my experience, were fantastic. They were always exceptionally communicative, to include personal updates on both positive and negative academic and behavioral issues. Wish there was more PE, but it's tough at -30!
You're better off finding a different school if your child requires special education needs. Take a look at North Pole Elementary, Moose Creek Baptist (church/school with a 10:1 ratio) or homeschooling options. We have had an extremely difficult time all three years that our child had attended Anderson. We are very dedicated and involved parents and would never want anyone else to go through what we had to endure.
I'm suprised to see there is not much information on this school. We were a Eielson AFB in '01 to '04, with to kids enrolled at Anderson. Anderson has one of the best reading programs I've seen. I can't say enough good things about this school.
This is a small school and I think that is what makes it great. There is a lot of one-on-one attention. The teachers seem excited to be teaching their class. We are moving soon and my son's teacher is sad to see him go. It is also a very safe school because it is right on the Air Force base.
