I went to have lunch at this school with my grandson. It was my first time at that school. I felt like it was very unsafe for the children. The huge gate was wide open the entire time. I went to sign in at the office, but they don't give out visitor badges, so really, anyone could have been walking around the school, any stranger off the street! I felt like I could have walked right out of there with any kid and no one would have noticed. There was nothing stopping the kids from walking right off the campus either! Also, when my husband went to pick up my grandson from the school office for the first time ever, they NEVER asked for an ID! I just feel like in light of the terrible school shootings, they should make the school more secure.
The school is fantastic and the teachers are always on top of everything and especially when it comes to the students education! Parents are very involved and since the principal has changed it has been better!
Hartford has the best staff, administration and teachers in the district. The teacher look after the students with love and understanding. The staff is always warm and nice when asking them questions. And the principal has an open door policy thats allows the freedom to talk to him anytime. The introduction of uniforms two years ago is a great improvement in both academics and discipline. Its a fantastic school !
Although Hartford has a large percentage of children in the K-2 grades that are non-English speaking, Hartford is dedicated to bringing those kids up to English competency and keeping the already English speaking kids progressing at the same time. I have been impressed with the dedication of the teachers to my child's education. My child has excelled and thrived in a very positive environment at Hartford. The school is aging, but new systems are regularly being installed to keep it comfortable and safe. The worst thing that CUSD does is take the advanced children out of Hartford and send them to other schools for thier CATS program. This deprives the children left of good role models and peer support.
Hartford is a good diversified school. It does have areas of opportunity in parent involvement and I feel it should offer a few more extracurricular activities for the younger grades. Allowing children to begin participating in structured organizations at a younger age. Overall though we do enjoy Hartford and are proud to be a Huskie.
