Our family is new to Val Vista Academy. We really appreciate the small class size, warm and friendly staff, and the new principal, Dr. Londer who is visible and demonstrates excellent communication skills with parents, staff ands students. If you have an opportunity for your child to enroll/transfer to Val Vista Academy, I recommend that you check it out, especially if your child is currently enrolled in a large school with too many children in his/her class. I promise that you will be impressed. A VERY happy parent....

Well... After visiting many schools in THE VALLEY. We settled At Val Vista Academy for our kindergartener and our child in an upper grade because the fact that they have a teacher and an aide and less than 20 students. Turns out that the aide part is not true. The aides work the lunchroom all day. They're NOT in the K classroom but an hour or so in the morning. The lunch room is ran similar to a prison. Kids Can't sit with their friends. This should be a time to enjoy lunch with a friend. No wonder they're losing students...

Val Vista has only been back in school for four days, but as a parent who has been at the school since the first year it opened I can feel and see the incredible amount of effort and attention to making thinks better for parents, teachers and staff. The new principal comes to us with an incredible background of knowledge on how to bring a sense of community with the school. The curriculum is amazing - Singapore Math, fundations for phonics, harcourt reading along with literature books, individualized attention to both students who need to be challenged and those who are struggling. We love the small class sizes, every teacher is highly qualified with an Az certificate, all the paras/assistants have also taken and passed their exams, reading coach, math coach. Incredible new competitive sports program, wide range of after school activities. Teachers and other staff are always vey polite and willing to help in every way possible. Thanks Dr. Londer(new principal), Annette(secretary), Carla(bookkeeper), Sandra (school nurse), all the teachers, paras and other support staff for creating such a warm, friendly, inviting atmosphere for all the students and parents!

Amount of homework: Not enough
July 09, 2015
There isn't enough work to keep students advanced. The Kinder program is far behind what other schools are.

As a child going into first grade who can't even read at a standard level, I'm disappointed in what I see the quality is. They don't encourage group play and don't focus on the individual. Poor parent communication and are behind about a year.

I love our school and I know it may seem that I have to say that as a teacher however, the truth is I would not need to stay if I didn't love it. I spend at least 50 hours a week working with students on areas of improvement (often including lunch) but I enjoy it. The difference between our school and others is that we are supported by our principal which encourages us to work harder. Like any review there will be more negatives then positives due to the need to get out anger. I can say that teachers are dealt with when parent complaints arrive but it is never a public event which is how it should be and why the few bad reviews complain that is was never acknowledged. With 452 students, we are bound to have a few upset parents as all students are not the same and some students receive necessary discipline that parents don't agree with just like any other school. I hope all readers realize there is always another side of each story. Parents do walk-throughs every day, so you can see each teacher in a real unscripted classroom lesson. Seeing is believing.

My child started Kindergarten at Val Vista Academy this year (2014/2015) and I am more than pleased with the school. My child is on the young side compared to the other kindergarteners and absolutely thriving. I know that there is some drama going on between staff members/ex staff members and that it may be playing out in the negative reviews that have recently been posted online. All I have to say is that Val Vista is an amazing school. Most of the staff members, including the principal and vice principal, know my child by name and always greet us with a smile. The curriculum is challenging compared to what Kindergarteners are getting at other Gilbert schools. We're looking forward to a bright future with Val Vista Academy.

I am so thrilled about Val Vista Academy! This was my child's first year at this school transferring from a local elementary school. I couldn't have asked for an easier transition. The teachers and students made him feel so welcome! VVA pushes for a challenging curriculum but also makes it fun and engaging for the children in the classrooms. Classroom assignments and paperwork are not thrown in his face like the popular "traditional" schools in the area and homework in the lower grades isn't too hefty. (There is a life outside of homework!) In regards to curriculum, I know that VVA is more challenging, yet age appropriate vs local public schools. My child is LOVING school, comes home and can't wait to tell me about his day, which was non-existent from last year. So far, I LOVE VVA!

I am a hard working mother with a son who goes to Val Vista. And I am appalled at all the previous comments; not surprised, but upset. This school has been wonderful for my son who has had trouble in math, specifically. His teacher has spent free after school time with him to get better. To all you parents who don't work and take time to write bad reviews, why don't you volunteer at the school and help Instead of complain?!!!!! My son's teacher told me there is not much help from other parents. it's a great school and only has room to grow.

As a parent who's child has spent most of this year being harassed by another child in their class I can attest to the fact that this school does have a problem with bullying and while the teacher did try and correct the problem she is limited and the principal doesn't seem to want to bother with the problem. It breaks my heart that a school with so much potential has such poor leadership. Unfortunately my family will not be returning to VVA next year unless there is a change in Leadership.

This school has the potential to be great. Unfortunately, leadership is lacking. The school board appears to only care about making money and is not holding the principal accountable for his actions. Pros:- Very little bullying - Small family friendly environment Cons: - Very little differentiated instruction. Teachers seem to teach to the test. - Principal ignores and does not respond to complaints.

As a member of the AZ Ball Charter School Governing Board and parent of two children who attend Val Vista Academy, I am grateful to have my children as members of the Val Vista Academy family. From the principal, assistant principal, administrative staff, teachers, and para-professional educators, you will not find a better environment that your child will not only be able to succeed but thrive in. Of course, Val Vista Academy is not at a 5-star level yet because of the newness of the school and still going through the growth phase with additional courses still being added at the middle school level every semester, but the school strives to ensure that every child is recognized as a human being and not just another number passing through the doors. Successes are celebrated consistently and the safety of the campus is of utmost importance, with the principal being one of the chief designers during the initial build phase of the school. I would highly recommend Val Vista Academy as your next school of choice for your child to attend and see the magnificent difference they will come away with once the school year is complete!

As an employee hire 3 years ago. It has been a great place to work for, principal and assist. Principal are the best to work for. We the staff are happy to work for them, they support us and that makes a difference. They keep the school safe. We know every single kid by name, they are not just a. Number for us. We care for them and we make their education a priority. Teachers happy makes a great school with a great attitude for our kids.

Ever since the ball charter school board let Dr. Rossi go, the school has really declined. He was the one keeping the principal in line. My child plays games on the computer on ABCYA in his technology specials class. He didn't have PE at all in the month of December because the school decided it would be ok to use this time to practice for the Christmas concert. How is that acceptable? At least there is a designated PE teacher this year. The first 2 years of the school opening, PE was taught by the music teacher with 70 or so students in one class when she had the kindergarten class. Personally, I like the teachers to have elementary education experience. After all, it is a charter school which is suppose to go above and beyond a public school. Every school has its good and bad, but in my opinion the bad far outweigh the good.

January 23, 2015
Don't let that last wonderful review fool you. It was obviously written by someone who works at the school. This school has gone downhill since it opened. The principal IS a bully and has no idea how to run a school; was almost fired on more than one occasion. The ball charter school board doesn't respond to complaints and few, if any, of the board members are educators. The curriculum is not followed and the teachers are not held accountable. Does the school follow state standards? Maybe, but this is a charter school which is suppose to exceed standards. The school teaches to the AIMS test so the scores will be higher. I know there is a new test this year which I'm sure they are teaching to. The PE teacher they hired worked with college students and doesn't have an elementary education degree. She was a parent of a child in the school. The new vice principal doesn't have experience in elementary education either. She came from a high school. I will be going elsewhere next year.

Horrible administration and a board that only cares about enrollment. The curriculum is a joke. No art program. No playground (only 1 slide) and no library. A science lab with no equipment. Under qualified teachers. The principal makes empty promises just to increase enrollment. The principal bullies staff and parents yet the only way to submit a complaint is through the principal. Families would rather pull their children then deal with the complaint process. It's only a matter of time before this school closes.

This is our 3rd year at this school. My child is in 2nd grade. This is a very nice school. People complaining about the playground, they are adding to it. They have to have the money which they raise through events like the read a thon and jog a thon. The teachers are all highly qualified! The PE teacher has an education in physical fitness! Just because she's a parent of a student makes no difference. The principal isn't a bully. He is kind but he can't please everyone and a handful if parents that don't want to be accountable for their child's actions. The art room just got built as did the library. The school is still growing!! My only complaint is I am NOT seeing differentiated curriculum. When it comes to test taking they all take the same tests for that grade level, so what's the point of that? They have 2 others schools in the valley and have been operating smoothly for several years!

Administration over promises and under delivers! Only interest is enrollment numbers and getting new students. Principal Bully's parents. Curriculum no existent. Does not have art program like website states. Also, no library or playground or even playground equipment for kids to play with. Best thing about this school is families and kids that go there.

People often ask me, "What sets your school apart from the others?" My reply, "We truly care about children!" Sure we differentiate, assess student progress and are data driven. We are a vanguard school in the area. Our teachers are all highly qualified and certified but, it's the climate and culture that permeates the campus that makes Val Vista Academy special. It's an exciting time for us with four new buildings completing our campus. The curriculum is strong and the family support is phenomenal! We enjoy doing things that empower children, they love their school and their teachers. I invite you to come on by and visit us. It would be my pleasure to give you a tour of our campus. This is an EXCELLENT school! It is well rounded with a great approach to education. Our children have thrived in this environment. The teachers and administration are very approachable and down to earth. We highly recommend that anyone interested in the school, go take a tour and see for yourself.

My kids have gone to VVA for two years now. They are happy here. They have not had problems with bullying at all. The administration strives to make sure the kids not only get a good education, but also have some fun and enjoy coming to school each day. I do wish they incorporated Spanish into the program.

This is our first year at Val Vista Academy and we are absolutely THRILLED! Throughout the year we have had the privilege of watching our children grow in confidence and character as they achieve significant progress socially, emotionally, and academically. The exceptional teachers are full of compassion for their students and provide them an outstanding education. We are very impressed by the consistent and open communication within Val Vista. We are truly grateful to be a part of such an extraordinary school community. Keep ROCKIN' VVA!!

This school is great! The work is challenging. I read other reviews that said the work was easy but compared to regular public school, VVA's work is way harder. I know , I have sent my kid to other schools in the area. Val Vista Academy was rated one of the best schools in Arizona. The kids do a fall and spring concert. They say the pledge every morning too!

This is school is top rated in charter schools with 3 or more campuses. AIMS scores are out of this world! Not sure why someone would say the work is easy, but the kids are learning and are excited to come to school everyday. The principal is very accessible and responsive. I recommend this school if you are looking for a top education for your child and teachers and staff that really care. In a city where there is a school on every corner, you will be hard pressed to find a better school than VVA!

The atmosphere and families at VVA are phenomenal. Not sure about the administration. The principal seems nice but appears to have his "favorites". Not a good idea. Also would love to see a more advanced curriculum. Children who are already "ahead of the game" should be a delight not a problem but just because they are "ahead of their peers" doesn't mean they should be left to learn on their own. Often the homework is so easy that there is absolutely no sense in sending it home and, if it is a reflection of what is being taught in the classroom then I question the teacher's ability to diversify education for individual children. I believe they could easily address this problem but seem "stuck" on what other charter schools are doing and following the status quo. We stay because of the wonderful families and the loving atmosphere - just wish they would up their game from an academic standpoint.

Our school is awesome. We have ranked #1 in Gilbert and #15 in the states for K-8 schools. Our teacher and students and staff work very hard to be successful. We are growing into a strong community and will continue to grow.

Great school!! It's a smaller school so you get a sense of community here. The teachers we have had so far a really great (K-1). Private school quality at charter school prices (free). Great office staff, always friendly and nice principal who really seems involved and really cares about the kids. All the parent volunteers are background checked, finger printed and trained. I have had 2 older kids in the public Arizona schools and so I can tell you that Val Vista Academy is way better than public school. The curriculum is challenging and the strict uniform dress code is great!

We love VVA! We are a family that transferred from Dobson Academy and we loved it there too! VVA is just much closer to our home. I'm not sure about the crowded classrooms but my daughters Kinder class has 20 (with a teacher and a paraprofessional teacher), and my other child's 3rd grade class has 15! My daughters 3rd grade teacher made it a point to approach my car at carline and have a brief conversation about a concern I had with my daughters math. The school has gone above and beyond to help accommodate my kindergartener who has a severe peanut allergy! Teachers are wonderful, technology is great, and the campus is clean and beautiful. Can't ask for more....

My child started at Val Vista Academy last year as a kindergartner. We were very pleased with his kindergarten experience at Val Vista. His teacher was fantastic and genuinely cared for her students. I was very impressed with the quality of the education he received. The initial weeks of last year were a bit disorganized, but not in a way that I feel distracted from the students experience. I would have preferred slightly more structure in communicating with the parents and stronger leadership from administration. In fairness to Val Vista, this was their first year of operation and a few bumps in the road are to be expected. Our son is now a first grader at Val Vista. We are very pleased with his teacher and I have noticed improvements in some of the areas that were lacking at the start of last year. Overall, I would say our experience with Val Vista Academy has been positive and I would recommend Val Vista to our friends and neighbors.

How did we go from a small friendly community to overcrowded classrooms and an administration that is not approachable. I have two students in this school and both of the classes had over 30 students and not enough desks for them. Looks like it is time to search for that small community again.

The first day of school was amazing. The group of kids we have at Val Vista Academy are wonderful. We are going to have a great school year. I love coming to work at Val Vista Academy each day. The students, parents and staff are wonderful. I had an incredible first day and can't wait to see my new students grow academically as the year progresses. In my 10 years as a teacher this is the first school I have taught at where I feel loved and valued. The administration team are very supportive, and the teachers truly care about each individual child. Our parents are also wonderfully supportive and generous with their time, and donations. I have never had my own children attend the same school as I taught at, however when I began teaching at VVA I knew that my child would get a better education at VVA.
