I LOVE this school. My children are excelling in their reading and math and really enjoy going to this school! The teachers really care, the principal is involved and the parent involvement is amazing! Pioneer has so much going on now for the whole family - math nights, books for bingo nights, professional storytellers, an incredible chorus teacher and performances, great girls basketball team....

Pioneer has some great new things happening. The new principal is extremely hands on and dedicated to turning the school into a school where kids succeed and feel like part of a family. Their parent involvement is growing with things like the parent center and family nights. My daughter checks out games and books for free at the parent center and loves coming to the family nights. The principal and teachers are at those nights and she loves seeing them outside of her classroom because they know her by name and that is what is great about being at a smaller school.

Pioneer has some positive points and one is that it is small. Most of the teachers seem to really care about their students and they are friendly. The school has declined over the years, in appearance and problems with drugs. The staff is clueless regarding this issue in upper grades. Kids that require extra help are at a disadvantage at Pioneer. The assistant principal is approachable but the principal hasn't been around...at least it seems that way. I am at the school daily and I never see her saying hello to the students or parents. The school doesn't have a welcoming feel like it did years ago.

I have 3 children that attend Pioneer & have never had a bad year there. I frequently volunteer so I got to know the staff fairly well. The teachers are awesome, they care about the kids and have always quickly addressed any issues I've had. The principal seems to really care about and know her students. So far it has been a great experience for our family.

I think this school has poor everything, my little brother went there and he failed everything. and he had so many things happen to him were kids were not nice to him and the teachers didnt do anything about it. This school should be closed down no one there knows what they are doing!!!!!

My son's first year there was horrible. His teacher had no idea what she was doing. She lacked any type of comapssion unless you did things her way. She allowed children to be bullied and picked on. Let's just say I did a happy dance when she wasn't at the school the next year. (Mean I know, but she was HORRIBLE!) His next teacher was WONDERFUL. I loved her as did my son. That teacher should be nominated for AZ teacher of the year. She is a master at her profession. This year his teacher is good. I'm happy with her and think my son is enjoying heis year. I alos love the band teacher there. I think she does excelent work with the kids. I think there are still some bullying issues that need to be resolved, especially considering the schools history, but I have heard it's a PUSD problem

My son has attended Pioneer for 4 years. I have been very happy with all of the teachers he has had. Each teacher has taken the time to communicate with me via email and has taken a personal interest in my son. The teachers he has had seem to really care about the kids and their education.

I have had 4 children enrolled at Pioneer Elementary over the last thirteen years, consecutively. My youngest child will graduate from eighth grade this year. Overall, we have had a positive experience at Pioneer. A couple of years ago, I became VERY unhappy with our administration. Namely, our principal and assistant principal. They were both very unapproachable and ran the school with a very heavy hand. I actually arranged a variance two years ago, but my child opted to stay at Pioneer. (I must say that we have always had an excellent teaching staff and don't feel that my children suffered academically in any way.) Just this year, we got a new principal and assistant principal. I am happy to say that they are EXCEPTIONAL. Warm, inviting, caring, involved ,very impressive. I am happy that my child chose to stay and Pioneer and I would highly recommend 'our' school to anyone!

Teachers at Pioneer are highly dedicated to their students both inside and outside of the classroom. This fact is evident by their willingness to sponsor extracurricular activties as well as their pursuit of educational excellence. Considering the fact that some classes at Pioneer have up to 35 students, teachers are doing the best work they can to manage classroom discipline. Administrative leadership has improved since acquiring a new assistant prinicpal last year. The overall attitudes of the students who attend Pioneer are directly related to the involvement of parents. I have found that a convenient and effective way to reach teachers at Pioneer is through email.

I have three children at pioneer and I live out of the disctrict school. for our family Pioneer has been one of the best school. This will be our sixt year at pioneer and will have my kids there until they go to high school. I don't like the administration, but the teachers are the best teachers there. no doubt about it... We drive everyday day to school for 30 minutes to go and another 30 minutes to go back home, gas money to much, but I will still take my kids there with no regrets.

The lack of leadership and involvement on the administrative level has caused a lot of damage to this school. They are confused that being the boss and being bossy aren't the same thing. They slap around their self righteous paint brush pretty wide with parents and students but have NO internal system of accountability for themselves. The majority of the teaching staff is dedicated, caring and involved and is the administration's saving grace.

I have three children that have attended Pioneer for the last eight years. I will have my second eigth grade graduate this year. With the exception of one teacher/student conflict, the overall experience has been positive. The staff contacts me in a timely manner if there are issues with my children and when there was a problem with another student I was able to have my childs schedule changed within a day. The teachers have been supportive when I went to them for assistance. I feel that there has to be a relationship between the parent and the teachers for the school experience to be positive.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Arizona used the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) to test students in reading and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and 10, writing in grades 5, 6, 7, and 10, and in science in grades 4, 8 and 10. GreatSchools' profiles currently show AIMS mathematics, reading and writing results. 2013 AIMS grade 10 results represent on-track 10th graders for the 2013 test year. AIMS is a standards-based test, which means that it measures how well students have mastered Arizona learning standards. Students must pass the grade 10 AIMS in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to meet or exceed state standards on the test.
