I'm the parent of two students who go to Basha High School, one of which is in Cheer, and am appalled by the antics of the Copper Canyon Cheer squad yesterday at a competition!! When it was announced that Basha took 6th Place, the Copper Canyon team jumped up and down and cheered!! How truly unsportsmanlike!!!
I currently go this school and even though it has been bad in the past it has changed and it is very very big where I guarantee you are going to get lost on first day. Teachers are very committed for you to succeed :)
504 Plan at Copper Canyon???? Do the teachers know about Plan 504??? I gave up my child's rights. It is really sad for parents and kids who need to be protected by Plan 504 at this school. My son was supposed to take tests in a private room. This never happened.
If you want to know what's wrong with public education in AZ, just study this school. Massive pressure on teachers to pass students NO MATTER WHAT! Direct quote from administrator; "We're not in the business of giving life lessons! If you give a kid a failing grade, you're not teaching them a lesson, you're just lowering their self-esteem." They would rather get a signature from a counselor saying they can graduate a student who does not read, as opposed to actually teaching that student to read! Go see for yourself. Don't let the administrators lead you about by the nose showing you what they want you to see--they are masters of PR and spin. Drop in unannounced or shadow your student for a day. You won't have to look long or hard to see the disturbing truth.
Although the school has been bad in the past, the school has made a complete 360 degree change including stricter rules and a faculty that cares and helps the students. this is now one of the best schools out there all thanks to the principal and the school spirit of the students. this school used to be known for fights but now the students are actually trying to prevent fights!
is by far the worst school I have ever been to. The faculty is downright malicious, the teachers don't care at all, and I have never seen so many troubled kids. The students have no respect for themselves or each other. Everyday I would see people on drugs, or talking about sex, and the teachers didn't notice at all. The teachers definitely play favorites, and if your not one of the select few then school becomes miserable. The office staff and faculty members seem to want to find the bad in everybody, even falsely accusing the good-moralled students. In the month I spent at DM I learned nothing academic whatsoever, even in advanced classes. This school is absolutely a joke and I would not recommended it for anyone.
I am currently a student at Copper Canyon. I have been there my entire high school career. Unfortunately, in the society we live, people seem to only acknowledge the negative about something, and that is exactly what has happened with Copper. Yes it is true that in previous years the violence at the school was at a much higher level than it should have been, but this past school year brought along significant changes. The new administration cracked down on discipline, as well as attendance. Academics wise, the school offers a pretty decent selection of classes. The AP program has expanded quite a bit. And it's not as if having certain AP classes depends on the school, it depends on the number of students that sign up to take an AP course. School spirit is also a big issue, but in a world where, for some odd reason, football seems to be the most important sport, its hard to have school spirit when you have a team that has only won a single game in the past two years. However, our other sports do help. Soccer being regional champs two years in a row, Baseball winning regionals last year and making it to the playoffs this year. Yes Copper is different, but it isn't a bad school.
I am a student that is currently attending copper canyon. I love this school, its has changed so much with our new principal. People may say its a bad school and even academicaly. But our school staff teachers are very smart, and help us acheive our goal in learning more in eduaction.. They go throughout their way to help us and care for us when we need them the most. I have grown out through copper canyon. Not them only them watching me grow, but as me watching them grow into a school that has achieved beyond my standards. We are aztecs,We aspire and we acheive. Not only because of us, but as a school that brings the students together and focuses on our main goal of sucess. Lets go aztecs!
the best school they have awesome teachers!! and have respectful students by the way everyone learns the same as others
I'm currently a senior attending Copper Canyon. Having transferred from a school in California my junior year, I noticed tremendous differences immediately. The students lack spirit, and this directly affects the school's charisma as a whole, and overall, brings the entire student population's morale down, as well as the teachers'. It is simple to blame all of this on Copper Canyon as an institution, but as someone who is well aware of who is leading this state, I dare to reach further: Parents, please cease in your blame of the administration. This state is run by people who are willing to cut your child's education funding, and until education becomes a priority in this state, this will continue. You failed to allow for the Override to pass, and now you will see the immense affects take place. Push for change, parents. Your children will appreciate it.
I think Copper Canyon is a great school. For all the parents that say there are too many fights and too many problems, dont blame the school, its not their fault that your kids cant behave ! The sports are great. If your child comes home with bad grades dont blame the school. I would recommend this school to anyone that wants to have fun and get a good education ! (:
im a student at CCHS n i love it if ur a student they would say the same thing because its true. All of the teachers and helpers are great with us n i couldnt choose any other school that is better than Copper Canyon home of the Aztecs!!!!
Copper Canyon doesn't have enough responsibility as a school. Its academics are very poor. Classrooms are over crowed and some teachers just give up on that. Some teachers try hard to teach but the students are the problem. Gangs are not really that bad anymore but vandalism is things getting stole from lockerrroms. I go to Copper Canyon. Of course I think its the best but it has those problems. They focus to much on sports especially Football and the varsity went 0-11 When other teams need school support too.
I go to Cqpper Canyon and Im happy with everything the school has t offer
My son is going on his 3nd year at copper canyon, He has a 504. The school knows nothing about a 504, if your child has a 504 do not send them to this school.
My daughter brings home all high A & B for her freshman year, except for her finial she gets low B in reading & high C in math. I thought she was doing ok by the papers & report card grade I seen through the year. Went out & picked up couple work books that pretest for the chapters and then post test. By the pretest in these books she not even a C student. I dont know how they make the kids grade look so good through the year but plan on finding out. I give this school a 2 star
My daughter just graduated from copper canyon and I believe this school has several issues it needs to deal with. Starting from the teachers who are not educated enough to know how to teach to the adminastration who lacks in leadership and knowing how to bring in good teachers and how to guide and discpline a student when needed.
Very poor one on one education services. Teachers that I spoke to seemed very immature and unorganized. Some lacked a will to come to school and as they put it 'deal' with students.
In my opinion Copper Canyon used to be a very good school. Three years ago the school started having major problems with gangs, discipline as well as losing some real good teachers. Alot of the problems had to do with the principal. If she could have opened her eyes and saw alot of the problems that were going on maybe the school wouldn't have some of the problems it has now. I will not recommend this school to anyone.
I am so glad this is my son's last year. I can't take another year with the administrative staff. They do not seem to know what classes my son needs, he has been placed in unnecessary classes and told to make up classes that he does not need.
