Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

The school has great activities for kids to be involved in. Teacher practices are very fragmented with no set philosophy for homework, tests, and projects. Class sizes are very large and most difficult for advanced students. Teachers continually give students problems they have never been taught to bring rigor to the curriculum. Very few students continue in AP classes and fewer take the test. The IB program is a joke with only a handful of students selecting the program. The school should be an A rated school, but is barely a B.

We enjoy Millennium HS. My son is involved in a variety of after school activities, and enjoys the teacher involvement. He takes AP classes and we look forward to our younger children attending MHS.

the classes are a very weak, and the learning environment could definitely be better. some teachers don't even teach until the last 2 weeks of school, when they start stressing about final exam grades. teachers rarely offer opportunities for advancement in the classroom, and the tutoring is a joke. I mean, there are some classes that are good and some teachers that genuinely care, but honestly? everything is mostly busy work and doesn't challenge students at all. most students lose interest and focus in school and let their grades derail. however, I do love millennium, and the social environment is exciting (since it's overcrowded, you meet many new people:) but there is a definite lack of leadership, teacher involvement, and stimulating classes.

My son attended MHS his freshmen year. Overcrowding is ridiculous. In his Honors English class... there were not even enough seats for everyone. I know when I read about their test scores, I was excited.. Those are not the new test scores coming out however. My son wrestled for them this year and we saw that they pay more attention to the "popular" sports than anything else. I emailed and called teachers until I was blue in the face with no response. My son has a B average, so he is not a failing student, but definitely was not pushed or encouraged to go further. I was extremely excited for him to go here and to say the least, I am extremely disappointed. He will be attending AAEC next year so he can get class sizes that are appropriate and the attention teachers are supposed to give to their students. Do yourself a favor and don't trust the "excelling" label..... look around. Even Agua Fria would have been better than this.

I am very disappointed in the school. I did a lot of research before buying a home in this district. I was very happy with the middle school and have had nothing but problems since my daughter started the high school. Unless your student is actively involved, which is wonderful, your student will very easily fall between the cracks. The teachers and administrators have very little focus on the other 85% of the students that don't fall into that group. It is very easy for your child to get lost in this school if they have a quiet demeener and are not extroverted. Very unfortunate, I am now actively looking for a charter school in the area so that my child no longer gets lost in the crowd and gets her fair shot at a good education.

i am a parent, and i am very disappointed in the way the school administration and some teachers handle "bullying" we (parents) get a briefing on what the school does to prevent or handle bullying on campus, well here is the problem, my son has been a victim of bullying and we have made several attempts to contact the principal and vice principal and all we get is voice mails, and no response back, it is a shame that even teachers (some) do not do anything about it and even when it is happening infront of their faces. what a shame....

I am a junior at Millennium, and it has gone downhill every year since I've been here. I joined the IB program to hopefully get a leg up on my education and even that is going downhill. The teachers are horrible, the school is horrible. The good teachers are quitting and the overcrowding in unbelievable. If I could switch schools, I would. Don't come to this school- it would be a horrible mistake.

I am a sophmore at Millennium, and I am so glad I didn't get sent to Xavier or another private school. The teachers are fantastic, and they go beyond teaching; they actually care about you. The students are respectful, and all the sports and clubs available are fantastic! Millennium is exactly where I want to be. GO TIGERS!

Loved it last year. Not so much this year. Funding cuts, overcrowded classrooms, discouraged teachers, lack of leadership. This will be our last year at MHS. Transferring out at the end of the year and not recommending the school to friends.

wasn't what i expected. I transfered from a high school in new york last year with high expectations. The people are okay and the classes arent so bad but its just not for me. So after looking around at each school near me, i finally decided last year to switch to Agua Fria. I sure am glad to be here. The surroundings may not be that appealing but you sure cant judge a book by its cover.

I am a senior at Millennium High School and I have been there since I was a Freshman. I was apart of the sophomore class that had amazing test scores that labeled Millennium as, Excelling. There are wonderful teachers that provides a tough curriculum. Some of the freshman's parents moved just so their kids could attend Millennium. The principal Dr. Runyan is very nice and easy for students like myself to talk to. However as nice as he is he often becomes a pushover. The assistant principal Ms. Landis is tough and to the point, she doen't take anyones, crap, so to speak. I am very excited but at the same time sad that is is my last year at Millennium; I will forever remember this school as the school that helped me get to were I want to be in life as I got excepted into the Cordon Blu Institute.

Millennium is a great school. It started as Agua Fria North in 1979 as a freshman-only campus sending the freshmen to Agua Fria High School (their well noted rival). Then in 1999 it became a high school starting at the bottom of the ladder. In ten short years it rose to become probably the best school in the West Valley, making it's name well known across the state and bringing much pride to Goodyear with many trophies from sports and activities. There are MANY after school activities after school ranging from football to art to marching band. Speaking of activities its football teams are rising as the best in the West Valley and may rank with Centennial or Peoria. The school has also risen in acedemics bringing more fame with an excelling school rating. And coming in 2009 there will be an IB program coming to the school, allowing more opportunities.

My daughter has attended Millennium High School for just over a year. I am very disappointed in the school. The classroom sizes are very large which is a disadvantage to students and teachers a like. They do have many highly rated extra cirricular activities which is very nice. The test scores are high and the school is highly rated however, for our family the class size has been overwhelming.

This School was the most wrongest mistake I have made. The School and Teachers aren't respectful to the students and parents. The School is all about pride and they don't care about anything else. Aqua Fria is the school I am at now and its the best choice I have made.

I have greatly enjoyed being a part of this school over the last 3 years. It is an absolutely incredible atmosphere and it seem as if every one is involved. I cannot wait to attend my senior year here next year.

Millennium High School is definantly the best high school that any of my three children have been to. It is a place where their minds are constantly challenged, and education is the number one priority. The atmosphere is amazing, and school support is huge. It seems as if everyone is always envolved in every thing. I can't wait for my two eighth graders to attend next year.

I was a student at Millennium in 2005 and I wish I had gone to Agua Fria, in Avondale. For most programs I was in, such as student council, track, and drama, it took all four years to make it good, and even when I left, there were problems. The school is definately not strict on clothes.

We are only 6 1/2 weeks into the school year and my son loves Millennium HS! He is getting great feedback from the teachers in regards to Math and English. He's getting involved with the soccer program and loves his art class! I had the opportunity to meet the principal over the summer and Dr. Runyan really does want to see the kids succeed (as do the rest of the teachers!) I have nothing but great things to say about the entire teaching staff! My only issue is with the class sizes. However, that could be taken care of with portable classrooms or by opening up Verrado HS completely instead of just one grade at a time for the next 3 years. Or...add another high school to the area.

The school administration has difficulty picking their battles wisely when dealing with teenagers. Too much effort is put into disciplining foul language.

MHS is a good school. The Theatre department is doing a great job as well as the core academics. Parent involvement is lacking but under the direction of a new principal, MHS is starting to develop a 'community' feeling amongst students, faculty and citizens of Goodyear.

My daughter had atrocious first year math teachers for both her freshman and sophomore years. Despite meeting with the chair of the math department, no changes took place. Their attitude was that the teacher must cover the entire text book by the end of the year. If students don't master the material, tough, the teacher goes on anyway! Needless to say, our daughter no longer attends this school.

This schools is a good school except the dress code is an outrage. They expect the shorts and skirts to be, hands down to their side and finger tip lenght. The female students have been complaining that stores do not sell shorts and skrits that long. The staff at millennium so then wear boy athletic shorts. What that sounds like to me, is that they want all of the students to dress like boys. Also, if a student would be sitting down, or bending over and you can see any little piece of skin the student gets into trouble.

Millennium High School is a school that cares about their students and appreciates their community! With Millennium's goal in preparing high school students for college and life, the academics, extra-curricular opportunities, learning experiences, faculty, administration and students are favorably exceptional in working together to create a positive atmosphere to learn, grow and create lifelong friends.

Millennium is a good school with good teachers and nice kids, nothing extraordinary. Soccer was best in state for 2003-04, the football program is great, there is a lot of pride at this school, an excellent theatre department, and the foreign language classes, French, German, or Spanish really teach students lasting language skills. The school is relatively quiet, and the students are, for the most part, very well behaved. The atmosphere is accepting, light, and fun. Work is expected to be completed by its due date, or points are not issued. Students attending Millennium High School have absolutely zero lee-way when it comes to not passing classes-if you don't pass even one class, you don't graduate. Students must also pass Arizona's Instrument to Measure Standards, aka the AIMS test.

I have one child who is a sophmore here and had one other that graduated in 2003. For the most part I am really pleased with the faculty and administrative staff. I do feel, however, that the guidance counselors need to be more proactive and reach out to students.

Millennium has a great curriculum with plenty of challenging courses for advanced students, a well as standard courses for those who are average achievers. I have found the teachers to be helpful and welcoming of parental input. Discipline is maintained inside the classrooms which ads to the overall learning environment. The athletic program is outstanding and the relatively young school has already won many regional championships and a couple of state championships. My son is graduating this spring and I can truly say that he has enjoyed his four years at Millennium. He will be going on to technical school this fall, and Millennium has prepared him well for this next step toward a career.

The new assistant principal should be principal as he knows how to respect the kids. District needs to have a better meeting time for meetings to get parental involvement. All sports coaches and after school programs are great.
