ADVANCED

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Our son has Aspergers and after being disappointed by the lack of services offered by Mesa Public Schools, we started looking elsewhere. Other MPS schools wouldn't touch him and said go back to Wilson. We approached several charter schools and were essentially told, "We'll take him, but don't want to have to do anything special to help," disappointing. Then we discovered Liberty Arts after a friend enrolled their son there. Small class sizes meant the teacher could learn about his special needs. She learned his triggers and how to help him manage them and now he's in the top of his class and fitting in well. Our son went from a child that was frustrated and crying many days, to a kid that wakes up and is ready for school all on his own, anxious to learn.

I am the parent of an excelling 7th grader. LAA has made learning fun for him. He enjoys his small class sizes and the hand-on projects that his 3 teachers engage him in each week. He comes home and tells me how much he learned, and how excited he is for the next big project in math, reading, science and history. He also gets a well rounded education including Nation Junior Honor Society, PE, Visual Arts, sports club, creative writer's club, dances and family events. This school is what I remember school being like when I was growing up. The staff and principal are caring and provide excellent customer service. We are very happy being part of the LAA family and I would recommend this school to anyone who cares deeply about their child's academic success and emotional well-being. Thank you LAA!

This is my daughter's first year at libirty arts academy. She orniganly was in queen creek school with crowded classroom and teachers that where spread to thin to give any extra help. My daughter was unhappy and struggling and her teachers did not care. So we started looking at charter school. After many school tours we decided LAA was the best fit. My daughters grades have gone backup. The teachers care and always communicate with parents. She's happy to go to school every morning! I've seen such a difference and she has just blossomed into a wounderful 6th grader that is just eager to learn!

This is my daughters 2nd year at LAA. She attended 5th grade and is in 6th. The academics are above standard (even when compared to Gilbert "10's) There has been some transition this year with Performing Arts (the great teacher left and was not replaced) and it seems the performing arts aspect left with her. Have not seen or heard anything in regards to any "arts" what so ever and the bus situation is horrible. We will finish 6th grade but the determining factor will be the "arts" program for next year.

I absolutely love Liberty arts Academy. The teachers and staff are loving caring and on top of things. I have an 8th grader with Autism. Teachers and staff have been nothing but patient, understanding and loving to him. I also have a 6 grader who is in honor roll. I strongly recommend this school.

We love LAA! My children are doing very well, they have recieved honor roll for 1st & 2nd quarters. Their teachers are excellent. My children have been involved with the after school sports & dance clubs, as well as yearbook. We like the small size of the school. My children are known my name by most staff members. It's a family. I look forward to watching them progress and grow at LAA.

This school is an amazing place! Although it has gone through changes, it remains to be a strong academic program, all while supporting the whole child. The leadership at LAA believes in putting the students first. Parents are respected and valued. They offer after school sports, dance and clubs. During school their students have PE and music, in addition to art integrated into their mainstream classroom. It is always easy to talk to the principal if I have a question. LAA is like being part if a big family! We love our children's school!

LAA is full of caring individuals who do their best to promote a positive and friendly learning environment. LAA has gone through a few changes over the past year, and is striving to put together the best staff possible. Many improvements have been made since the change in leadership including 3 new smart boards, bus improvements, and the promotion of a more kind/caring atmosphere. I agree, some programs were cut from the school such as sports and art, but others were put in their place (After school sports club, dance, PE, etc). Certain things need to be built from the ground up, which is what is happening with the extra cirricular activities. I would expect to see organized sports back within a year or two. Just before my son exits the school. We love LAA!

This used to be an amazing school. It is no longer. They no longer care about supporting a well rounded child. Cuts to sports, art, and classroom supplies make it feel like a business. I am nickle and dimed at every turn. Test scores are the most important thing, a love for learning falls far below on the list. The amazing teachers we loved left when the school began to change. We tried to see how it would be, but the results are in. We have left laa and it was not an easy choice to take my kids away from their friends. But I cannot allow them to continue to go to this school which now I would describe as cold and in caring.

My child has attended LAA for 3 years and her dad and I are extremely happy with her progress and delighted with her teachers so far. The curriculum not only meets but exceeds the Arizona State standards according to her latest scores. My daughter's Junior Scholars teacher was happy with her science and math skills this summer which made us very proud. My daughter's Girl Scout troop leader was proud of her behavior and participation as well. I believe children who are surrounded by a positive and nurturing environment both at home and at school thrive successfully at everything they do. Interestingly, negativity exudes negativity. Thank goodness those individuals that have made very negative comments have professed to leave immediately. Liberty Arts Academy has always had an upbeat and positive approach towards education and constantly supports building leaders. My only wish is for corporate sponsors within the community to step up and donate for playground equipment. Keep up the good work LAA. PS: Art classes should never be the driving force for any grade level school. IMO

This is my children's 3rd day at this school and it will be their last. My children are coming from a great public school however I liked the idea of a smaller more focused school environment. I toured this school during the summer hours and the new leader is absolutely wonderful! That is the only positive thing I can say about liberty arts. My kids say that the teachers yell constantly and don't seem to have a plan for the day. I am able to walk in and out of the building freely which makes me question the safety of the kiddos. My husband and I and our kids feel like they're in a daycare environment. Very disappointing...

This is supposed to be a school that is focused on arts... Wish someone would have told me when we enrolled that they don't even have an art class offered to the students as a special. The "music/drama/performing arts room" is no bigger than a glorified closet. The "library" is the same way. The bus schedule is a joke. School is supposed to be dismissed at 3:10, bus was supposed to be at our stop around 4pm, and finally arrived at 5:15! One child had an accident on the bus, children were becoming anxious and worried and my daughter said the bus driver was "trying to stay awake". Most all staff as well as parents are dressed very unprofessional and look lazy. Multipurpose room is plain, boring and the entire school appearance lacks creativity and personality. My children (who are normally very positive about school) have had almost nothing but negative things to say... The only positive feedback my children have said is that the principal is very nice. It is her first year as a leader at this school and hopefully she can make some much needed changes!

I feel very pround to be a part of a staff who helps encourage students to be the best they can be. COMPASSION and care are our #1 priority. As a staff we instill this with service learning projects, community contests and a strong arts program.

I am not sure what this parent is talking about. My child has attended this school for several years. In every aspect, he is nurtured both academically and emotionally. I do not have to make an appointment to visit with the principal of the school. The front office is always ready to solve a question that I have. My child is an honor roll student who is involved with the sports and drama programs. I consider this school a safe environment that I want for my child . It is his home away from home.

I have 3 children with special needs that attend Liberty Arts. I am overwhelmed with the compassion and professionalism shown to my children by the entire staff. The teachers are very loving, dedicated and qualified. The occupational therapist and physical therapist provide serices weekly. I am kept informed of my children's progress. School leadership has an open door policy. My child's third grade teacher tutors her free of charge one day after school each week. She is now on the honor roll and her self confidence is soaring. I am very grateful I moved my children from our neighborhood school to Liberty. Liberty is an exceptional school interested in educating all children.

I have to agree completely with the Jan 1 2013 post. We had a very similar horrible experience and also pulled our children out and moved them to another school. As the other parent experienced once we moved our children to a new school they began to thrive academically and are actually happy at school instead of being constantly punished & confused with the chaos at this school. Liberty Arts was unprofessional, unorganized, and has very apparent administration problems. It's unfortunate our children even had to experience the chaos of this organization - it's poor facilities like this that ruin the educational experience for kids and cause more problems for them down the road.

Liberty Arts Academy does NOT hire uncertified teachers. The comment below is incorrect. This is an excellent school.

January 01, 2013
My son was there for a year and a half. Two certified teachers left (K and 1st grade) and they were replaced with uncertified teachers. One of which told my son at 5 years old that if he didn't stop walking around the classroom he was going to be kicked out of school and not allowed to return. She admitted to me what she said when I asked. She would also undermind my authority and tell me that when my son was acting up to not punish him because he was just being a kid. The 1st grade teachers were aweful. They had no control over their classroom. More often then not at least half the kids in the classroom were in trouble every day. My son was CONSTANTLY in trouble. I pulled him out half way through the school year and we went to a Gilbert school. Within one month he was at the top of his class. So obviously it was the teacher and not my child.

Liberty Arts Academy is amazing!! My daughter has been there for 2 years now and absolutely loves it. Both the teachers and staff are all wonderful and have never had a complaint come up. I love all of the activities they do; talent shows, book fairs, musical programs, ect. This school has really helped my daughter in many other areas that a traditional public school would not have provided. The principal is wonderful and knows both students and parents by name...she often greets you at the door during drop off and pickup. Can't say enough good things about this school!!

My name is cheyenne and I have been a Liberty Arts Academy student for 8 years. I started here while I was in kindergarden. We have some of the best teachers ever and they really care about your child's needs. This is a great school to make friends and get a good education. The teachers are supporting and very easy to communicate with. The older kids usually talk to the teachers about things that we did over the weekend or other breaks. This is a great school and I will be extremely sad when I have to leave! I have met some of my best friends here that I never want to leave.

I love this school! My oldest has been in a few different public and charter schools and now she is to stay put. my other kids started there this year and I am very happy with the kindergarten staff! they love it and I like the art and music/drama classes. they are built into the curriculum - its not like the public system where they have a parent come into "teach" art once a month. the acedemic curriculum is amazing and I am happy that my daughter is not being "dumbed down". I would recommend this school to anyone.

Liberty Arts Academy in three words: caring, accountable, dedicated. The teachers and staff are involved and energetic. My daughter is exited to go every day, and I like the homework we do together as well as seeing what she has completed in class. The teachers and staff communicate well and are very accessible.

My son has a lot of behavior issues. The ENTIRE staff at Liberty is helping him be the very best that he can! He's profoundly deaf and they were excited to take on a new "challenge" when we enrolled. He came from a public school that didn't want to mainstream my son with his hearing peers. This school was excited to get my son "back on track" and in an environment where he would be least restricted. Yes, he had setbacks, but now he's doing great! He loves his teachers and I'm fairly sure they love him too. This year, my youngest started going to their 4 year pre-k program. (They also have a 3 year pre-k, but we weren't aware of it last year). He LOVES it. He comes home telling us about what he learned. He fits right in. Hands down, this was the best choice for our family!!

Liberty is a great little school. Don't let the "6" rating deter you. I consider myself something of an expert as, unfortunately, my 4 kids have been in too many schools to count. We will be sticking with Liberty. My kids feel comfortable, safe, and cared for. The staff is warm and approachable. Their teachers are fabulous and they are learning a lot. Miss Waisel is doing an amazing job of growing the school and Diana at the front desk is a sweetheart. All charters have growing pains, but Liberty's staff is exceptionally dedicated. My kids even love their bus driver, Megan! Thanks especially to Mrs. Fett and Miss Fuscher for a wonderful year. We're so glad we found this school.

I love Liberty Arts Academy for their caring teachers and staff members! My two daughters have learned so much academically and emotionally from the overall experiences and teachings at the school. I really love Liberty Arts Academy. It is an amazing school and I am very surprised it is not rated higher.... both my kids are doing excellent there. The staff and teachers are all so friendly, they genuinely seem like they care about each and every student. Mrs. Fett is amazing and when I moved and had thought about switching my girls out of the school due to distance, she went above and beyond making it to where my kids could stay. I honestly couldn't begin to explain all the great things about this school. It is truly an honor to send my kids here!

I think that both Ms. Williams and Mrs. Crawford did an INCREDIBLE job teaching my son. Ms. Williams had big shoes to fill as Mrs. Crawford is one of the best teachers that I have ever seen. And, I think Ms. Williams did a great job in stepping in. My son loved school. He went every day knowing that he was cared about. Both his teachers made accomodations in every way to support him, encourage him and help make his second grade year a joy and a success. I would highly recommend both of these teachers. If either were teaching 3rd grade, I would love for my son to have them again. I sincerely appreciate all of their hard work and dedication to my son!

I also agree I have no complaints regarding Ms. Williams from what I saw she cares about the students and wants to supply them with the tools needed to be successful in school. What I would like to see are the higher level teachers examined and possibly replaced. I have some concerns and am waiting to see what will hapen this year. However, Liberty itself is a great school and even though it may have its bumps as any other school its dedication to providing a great education and school expeirence for the students stands true. Despite everything the faculty and teachers work hard to create a positive and caring learning environment for the students. My kids enjoy going to school which is not seen very often.

The individual who wrote this review is truly mistaken in his/her remarks. My second grader enjoyed the school year and did extremely well. The beginning of the year with Crawford the tone and expectations were set. Ms Williams finished off the year in a positive light. Both of these teachers are excellent. A shot like this is not a fair assumption/evaluation of a qualified first year teacher. This BAD review was from someone who did not get his or her way. How terrible it is to leave a school and trash the teacher. What if someone trashed this person (who wrote the review) after six months on the job this is a very poor review and has no merit. Please ignore this review! No one looking at Liberty for his or her children will be disappointed.

June 07, 2010
I agree that the comment/review written in regards to Ms. Williams is not a true review. Ms. Williams is a 1st year teacher and she did a good job of filling in for Mrs. Crawford. Each teacher has his or her way of teaching and to take over a classroom close to the end of the year is quite a feat for a 1st year teacher and Ms. Williams rose to the challenge and did her best with the time she had the students. She worked with Mrs. Crawford for most of the year and she had big shoes to fill but my 2nd grader enjoyed her teaching. Ms. Williams and Mrs Crawford are great teachers and truly care about the students. I have experienced much worse from seasoned teachers and do not feel Ms. Willams deserved the insulting review she was given.

This school has went above and beyond to identify my childs needs, learn about those specific to our child and meet those needs. They provide a strong moral base as well as far exceeding the academics of similar grade levels in other schools. They accomplish all this while keeping learning fun, keeping kids active with recess and physical education and healthy lunches! I am so glad we found Liberty Arts Academy.

I have a child that has attended Liberty Arts Academy for three years and we are very happy with her academic growth. The teachers are excellent and very helpful to my child. Mrs. Coleman is a wonderful leader and I like how she takes an interest in the students. Also, Mrs. Coleman is a woman of her word; if she says she will return your call - she will. That shows great character on her part. Most admin. will not do call backs. Overall, the cut backs due to budget reasons has effected the school some what, but Liberty Arts Academy is strong - well run school that parents should check out for their child! Keep up the great work Staff & Admin. A parent for life or until my child goes to 7th grade.

I have four children - my oldest moved out of Liberty this past school year to go to junior high. We have been with the school since it opened approximately 7 years ago. I have watched the school go through many changes (staff, ownership, curriculum, etc) and am grateful that we stuck out the difficult years. My children have received an excellent education. When my son started 7th grade at a public school, he was almost a full year ahead of his classmates! The staff is amazing and takes the time to get to know each child individually. The extra curricular programs are wonderful!

Liberty Arts Academy is a student friendly loving school. I have a child that has attended this school since he was 3years of age. He is still attending the school. The teacher at the school are wonderful. They are there for the students and go above and beyond to help each student meet its individual needs. The school itself is very conducive to learning. I love the inviting atmosphere the school gives. There is no doubt in my mind that this school is a great place learning and having fun doing it takes place daily.
