Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I think the pre-school program here is high quality and is really helping my son. The teachers and therapists seem to really care about the kids and making a difference for them.

This school is not that great.. I think that the staff does not watch these kids like they should. They over react to everything! Whenever there is an incident they never have any information and no one ever "saw the whole thing"! I am seriously considering taking my child to another school.

My son started at Terramar as a preschooler and is now going into the first grade. The teachers he's had so far have been teriffic! Very energetic and engaging with the kids. They communicate well with parents and encourage parent involvement. They tailor the curriculum for all learning abilities. The special ed services (speech and OT) are really good. My son has advanced so much with the added help. He's only 6 and already learning the core values of leadership, honesty, community service. Best of all, he loves going to school every day and learning. The before/after school program is also top notch.

Terramar is like a second home for my child. She loves going to school there. The teachers go out of their way to make her feel special and help to make each child's learning individualized. Also, their Academy of the Arts program has allowed her to learn so many new things about artists and her music potential.

The teachers that my kids have had are very open to my communication and get back to me right away when I have questions. I do wish the district would bring over advance social studies and science. I don't think it is fair to have some schools that got it and others that didn't. I think the majority of teachers at Terramar are very caring and work very hard. I like all the programs that are available for the students to participate in after school. Also, the music and art teachers are fantastic! The PTSA is a great team, but there is not very much parent support at Terramar.

I have 2 children at Terramar. They are both Honor Roll students and participate in band and athletics. The administration and teachers are all involved in the learning and extracurricular activities. I would definitely recommend Terrmar as an academic environment. The field trips are amazing! Especially the 5th & 6th grade trips.

I love Terramar School. My child's teacher and the staff of the school do an outstanding job communicating my child's learning and the happenings/events of the community. I am excited about the Arts Academy. The teachers are true professionals and the administration is supportive of focused learning and the opportunities provided by the Academy.

I will agree 2007 was a great year for Terramar. But as of 2009-2010 the school year and the trouble I see with the staff and kids in 6-8 grade , it is unbeliveable. Kids fighting with each other and Teachers looking the other way for some kids and dropping the hammer down on others. We need a staff that care's for all the kids ,Good or Bad. Be fair. I have talked to alot of parents and kids that are going to Terramar they feel the same way. I will not start on the school lunch program. I just hope that it gets better. I just many pull them out of terramar. Maybe I am just upset at this time. I wish the best for are kids and Staff at Terramar 2010.

My two children have been attending Terramar for 3 years. This school year 2007-08 has been wonderful. My 7th grader talks more about school now then he has his whole life. We love the sports and all the 7th & 8th graders who attend the sporting events is just awesome. It gives these kiddos a place to hang out with great supervison. I do agree Mr Honigman has made a huge impovement during his time here. I love Terramar!!!!

After seeing the last couple of negative reviews, I had to write. Two of my children attend Terramar and love it! I think our principal, Mr. Honigman has his heart and soul in this school and has made some wonderful and much needed changes! From personally knowing Mrs. Getty, Mrs. Berk, Mrs. Gedney, Mrs. Keyes and Mrs. Kasten (SAGE teacher), they have far beyond exceeded my expectations teaching my children! Concerning the other teachers , I have witnessed first hand how kind, considerate, and attentive they are to their students. I know this school has struggled in the past as all new schools do, however, I feel that the principal, assistant principal, staff, teachers, PTSA and students are all on the right track to make this school a huge success! THANK YOU AND KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

I moved my daughters over from a nearby charter school, and my daughters are doing great! This school has so much more to offer. I am really impressed with the office staff, the teachers and the level of parent participation.

Terramar is an excellent school with excellent teachers and staff. Teachers will go the extra mile to make sure that all students succeed. Teacher expectations are high and the students achievement reflects that. Parent participation plays an important role in this schools success. I have two children attending Terramar, both had a great 2006-2007 school year - Thank You Terramar!

I do not like this school. They've had way too much turnover with teachers. Many of the one's they do have are unprofessional.

I only have negative things to say about this school, teachers, principal and administrative staff. The State of Arizona needs to take a serious look at this school and their methods of teaching our children and the lack of quality teachers. The negative effects of the teachers and principal on the children are the worst part of this school. Can't someone do something to help the kids at this school get a good education with teachers and administration that cares? Please get someone with a direction, that focuses on the real issues, our children and learning and Love.

This is absolutely the worst school my children have attended. The teachers that my kids have (I'm not sure about all) are rude, disrespectful, and have an uncaring attitude toward the children.

This is a good school. I do think that they need a better punishment system. They also need to listen to the children. Some of the teachers should,nt be so uptight. I have 2 children in this school. One in 3rd grade and the other in 8th. They think that it is a decent school.

Great support from the PTSA. You must get involved to get to know which teacher is going to be a good fit for your child many different teaching styles.

Four principals in four years, no clear discipline policy, elimination of exploratory teachers after passing an override and a technology bond...this is a recipe for failure.

Academics are good. Sports and recreation are good. This is still a fairly new school. I must say that I didn't have a very good parent/teacher relationship when my son went here. Great school, but their communication skills lack some.

The Teachers at Terramar are awewome! My son has been going there since it opened, he was in 1st grade. He has reading problems, and every teacher he has had has gone that extra mile to help him. His current Teacher and the Teachers from previous years talk to each other, this has helped tremendously. Their teaching technics are similiar and consistant. He even had one Teacher stay in contact with him over the summer and worked with him so he didn't loose what he had been taught over the summer. Terramar Teachers are wonderful!

I have really appreicated the teachers here. They keep me informed and have an incredible attitude towards their work, which reflects onto the children. They took care in my families difficult situation and help all of my children feel welcomed and help them fit right in since we came late in the year. My children have learned a lot more depth of study here as well. I do recommend Terramar to other parents.

I feel like this is a middle of the road school. Nothing horrible, nothing special. There seem to be quite a few teachers that don't seem to really like kids. That is very sad and I hope that is something that the new principal will address in time. It also seems like administration treats the upper grades like prisoners/juvenile delinquents. Most of these kids are very good and it is a shame to see them treated not as the young adults that they are, but rather as young children. There is a zero tolerance for fun.

My child just completed 2nd grade at Terramar. His teacher was excellent, she had a very individualized plan for each of her students. The teacher seemed very committed to her students and to help them succeed. There are several, very involved parents in the PTSA and the school CIT. I wish more parents would step forward for our kids, but these groups do a great job! It was a difficult year, with the principal quitting mid year, but the assistan principal did a wonderful job taking over the campus.

I believe the quality of Terramar's academic programs is on par with other Deer Valley District schools. I would like more communication from the middle school teachers. They are not too quick to respond to phone messages, if at all.

AZVA has an awesome, very comprehensive curriculum. The materials and manipulatives are top notch. Kids can do school in the comfort of their own home and have more freedom to schedule their time around other extra curricular activities. Art and music are both included, but we didn't really care for the music program and art wasn't as fun as we had hoped. But that is our opinion - and our experience during our first year homeschooling. One parent has to commit full involvement in teaching their kids. One negative we found was too many administrative tasks, in addition to just trying to teach (and having to first learn each lesson prior to trying to teach it!). Compound that with multiple siblings and still try to maintain a home just got the best of us. It's a great program but we'll be trying something different next year.

The academics for the lower levels of elementary school are good. The grade school teachers are great. It seems once the student gets to 6th grade, the academic standards go down and more parental involvement is required to maintain good grades in easy courses. This is only Terramars second year, however and the growth spurt was almost double from the first year. Community support is very high and all school sponsored ventures (carnivals, dances, etc) have a high turn-out. The band department is good. I believe Terramar is still in a settling in stage and with new schools being built close by, it will help even out the student to teacher ratio.

This school is in need of quality educators. I have a 1st grader and 4th grader in this school at the moment and have been very unhappy. This school does not provide foreign language or computer science course, at least not at my children's grade level. The school has had several staff and administration turnovers in the last 2 years.

2003/4 was the first year the school was open. Both my children liked the school. My daughters first grade teacher was excellent. My sons teacher was ill quite often and was even out for an extended time, so he had some difficulty with the teacher changes. The principal has very high expectations for the teachers with respect to standardizing the curiculums. The PTSA is very active and put on regular events intended to draw the entire family. The before and after care program is run by the City of Peoria and the school is run by Deer Valley Unified, so there is some disconnect between the two with respect to summer camps.
