Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Too many students for one teacher. Currently there are about 24 students in my child second grade class! Personalizing my childs educational needs worries me with so many students. Yes I will be looking for a new school!

Biltmore Preparatory is the school our grandsons attend. I have been impressed with the warmth of the staff towards the students, as well as visitors on the campus. Both of our grandsons are doing outstanding work learning self motivation, as well as team building. I am thankful that they have the opportunity to learn and grow at Biltmore Preparatory.

Biltmore Preparatory has turned out to be an excellent choice for us. We are approaching the end of our son's 2nd year (2 grade) there and we have no plans of moving schools in the future. We originally chose this school based on their curriculum and the genuine personality that principle Ms. Burtamekh has. I love that Burtamekh knows almost every family, says hello and makes us feel welcomed everyday. The office staff is always friendly and helpful. Every teacher my son has had has been professional and capable. Our son is in gifted & Spanish immersion and I am constantly impressed by the material he's learning. They even have homework on Apple Ipads a few times during the week, which is both fun for the kids and relevant in our technologically driven world. I feel that there is not a lot of hype surrounding BPA (as there is around other comparable schools in the general area) which is what I like about it. It's a great school that is known to be wonderful by the families that attend. I hope it continues to succeed and enhance the learning environment for the children.

I attended this school as a young girl when it was Squaw Peak many years ago and boy has it evolved! Biltmore Prep is a one of a kind school. The teachers and parents are super involved in the education and well-being of the children. I drive 30 miles one way to bring my daughter to school here and every penny I spend on gas is well worth it. My programs are diverse. The focus on furthering education is always a priority to the teachers. I am so pleased with this school and the tools it has given my daughter. From the Janitors to the Principle, everyone is equal and so deserving of praise. This is not a school for slackers or naughty behavior, however if you or your child suffers from those things, this staff is well equipped to nip it in the butt. They hold ever person accountable and it makes for responsible parents, teachers & children. If I could give Biltmore 10 stars I would. I am sad to say we will miss Biltmore as we are needing to move out of state. I just pray we can find another school as wonderful. THANK YOU BILTMORE PREP FOR SUCH OUTSTANDING CARE THIS YEAR!

The teachers and staff are so dedicated to enhancing my children's education, they go out of their way each and every day to ensure the students receive a high quality education. The curriculum is challenging; parents are encouraged to get involved; there are tons of extracurricular activities to choose from; and my children are thriving. What's not to love!?

Biltmore Prep is an amazing school! Choosing the right school for my children was daunting considering the options we are offered through open enrollment in Arizona. I am so incredibly pleased that we went with BPA. Our kids are in the foreign language immersion program and are receiving an amazing comprehensive education. The entire faculty and staff are kind, courteous, and knowledgeable. It's obvious they love what they do!

Biltmore Prep is the best! I love that my children will be bilingual, and the school offers many excellent after school enrichment activities, such as Chinese, First Lego League, Piano, Violin, Soccer, Chess, Choir, and Gymnastics, in addition to competitive inter-scholastic athletics.

We transferred our daughter to Biltmore Prep for the Foreign Language Immersion program. She learns half the day in Spanish, and the other half in English, and we are thrilled that she will be bilingual at such an early age. Her teachers are truly gifted you can tell there is a great bit of thought put into every minute of classroom time and every homework assignment (there is no busy work here). The administration and the parent community helped to make her transition very smooth, and we have been very pleased with our decision.

No other school has a happy office staff...need i say more. :) Band starts @ forth grade. English instruction before lunch and Spanish instruction after; starting in kindergarten. Breakfast in classroom. Parents have to invest 40 hrs a yr. My kindergartner wakes me up to take him to school almost every morning! and my 4th &2nd grader are right behind him. The only reason this school is not a 10 is because they are diverse and take every child and not just the high scoring ones, IMHO. This school is the one! -Brian

Squaw Peak is truly an awesome school! With wonderful staff, lot's of electives, and excellerated cirruclium, I couldn't ask for more from this school. For my daughters 6th grade school, I moved her from Christ Lutheran to Squaw Peak because of problems with bullying, and although i was nervous at first, i couldn't be happier. Squaw Peak (or Biltmore Prep. Academy as of the 2011 school year) is an amazing school.

Well Kindergarten is over and it's on to first grade at Squaw Peak Traditional. What a great year. The teachers are true professionals who connected so well with our child and the rest of the class. Class size is small, and the school is a fun and loving community that feels like a second home. The Spanish immersion adds so much to the program and the kids just love it and think it's normal. I can't wait to see where this school goes over the next few years. We simply couldn't be more satisfied or feel more lucky to have such a great public school in our neighborhood.

My son just his first year in the Foreign Language Immersion program at this school. He knows so much Spanish I am amazed. His knowledge of English and sight words, as an emerging reader, is impressive as well. By the end of the school year they were working on math that my 2nd grader (at another school) did in the beginning of second grade. I think the advanced curriculum at this school is challenging without being overwhelming. I simply cannot say enough good things about the school, his teacher or the prinicpal. You all have my full support!

I find SPTA to be a place of warmth, growth and acceptance. The new principal, Mrs. Burtamekh has truly contributed to this very positive environment and has continued the positive change that the last principal and district started. Unfortunately, she does have her hands full. Our community is extremely demanding in many ways (and it should be.) Some of the teachers at the school are not happy and they contribute disharmony to the school and the administrators by being negative. Thankfully, the school is getting better at combatting these issues and once the unhappy, negative people start vacating this otherwise wonderful campus things can only improve! I look forward to meeting the new teachers and am excited about all we will accomplish in the future.

Our child has learned so much this year! She loves her teachers, is excited to go to school each day, and is doing challenging work well beyond her grade level. There are small classes, technology, music, art, after school chess, soccer & tennis programs, and on top of it all, she is learning Spanish every day as part of an immersion program. I was nervous about making the switch to this school, but I am so happy we did!

This is a great neighborhood school for my kids, we considered many other options when searching for a school. I was pleased to find out that we had a great school right in our neighborhood. We like the small class sizes, the experience of the teachers, the enthusiasm of the new principal, the Spanish Immersion program, the accelerated curriculum, as well as the extra curricular programs for the kids such as Jr. Ambassadors. If you live in the neighborhood make sure you check it out.

Squaw Peak is an excellent neighborhood school. The Administrators and teachers show great concern for educational development and want kids to succeed. The teachers my child has had so far from K-2nd grade have been excellent and have done a great job of providing constant communication on my childs progress and been willing to meet with me and address my concerns. Through parent/teacher collaboration they have developed various programs to improve parent involvement and raise funds to update teaching tools and programs for the kids. The addition of the spanish immersion program is one more example of this school understanding the needs of the community and trying to prepare our kids with an value added life skill. Higher levels of parent involvement and assistance with fund raising will help this school to continue to elevate its ranking.

It is a school that is trying to meet the needs of the community it serves on a very limited budget. It is the first school in Phoenix to provide a language imersion program which is critical to our children's development. It is our responsibility to prepare our children to compete in the global economy. Squaw Peak is trying to respond to this need. I applaud them for that.

We are a new family to SPTA this year - with one son in the Kinder Spanish Foreign Language Immersion Program and one son in the 3rd grade class. We have really been impressed with the high academic standards, teacher and staff involvement, new principal enthusiasm, and overall community of the school. We had been in a Montessori school for the last 5 years (and liked it very much) and were concerned about the transition to a "traditional" school - but they have adjusted well and are very happy. We also like that the school provides Spanish for other grades as part of regular curriculum and the boys enjoy all the other specials: music, technology, art, P.E., and library. They also have Chess club. Lots of homework - but very happy - highly recommend SPTA!

After sending our child to an excelling school with a highly rated private preschool on the campus, we came to Squaw Peak for the Foreign Language Immersion program and for the structure that comes with the accelerated curriculum. So far, the school has exceeded our expectations! Our daughter is already speaking, reading, and understanding a second language! Her teachers are dedicated and go above and beyond to engage and develop a rapport with the children. Our daughter loves her teachers and all of the "specials" that the school offers (PE, Music, Art, Library, & Technology). We could not be happier with our decision to choose Squaw Peak to continue our daughter's education.

We looked all over the valley for a Foreign Language Immersion program, and ended up finding one in our own backyard! The FLI teachers are amazing and the school and district have done a fabulous job developing this program. Thank you Mrs. Bennet and Sra. Contreras for being so warm, nurturing, and engaging with our children. My son loves going to school, and I see him flourishing with the structure and the academically challenging work. On top of it all, he is learning a foreign language so much more quickly than I ever expected! With the small class sizes, lovely teachers, supportive administration, active parent group, and resources of a large campus, we couldn t ask for anything more.

I have a kindergartener in the Foreign Language Immersion program at Squaw Peak. I am incredibly pleased with the school, the principal, teachers and parent involvement. We have small class sizes and an overall wonderful campus. The PTO has great leadership and providing many ways for parents to get involved. But the main reason I like the school is that my child is challenged, is learning and loves his teachers. Giving our children an education in a foreign language will set them apart from others, when applying to high school and college!

We moved our first grader over to participate in the Foreign Language Immersion program and are so glad that we did! Both of her teachers are amazing and have a great rapport with the kids. The kids are happy and learning on an accelerated path. The teachers challenge kids who need challenging and also work with kids who need extra help. The principal is very accessible. The office staff has taken the time to get to know us and ALWAYS make us feel welcome. SPTA is a very loving environment. One last positive is the amount of parents who are committed to the school and to their kids' education. Great things are happening at SPTA!

The majority of the kids in the area attend private schools, but the school is making changes in order to bring them back to Squaw Peak. The school boundaries have been adjusted to ensure a 'neighborhood' concept (previously, kids were bused in from throughout the district), and the school has changed to a traditional academy. Given the small class sizes (currently approx. 250 students, and 100 of those are 8th graders who were 'grandfathered' in), combined with increased focus and parental involvement, test scores are expected to improve substantially in this and the coming years. In addition, a group of neighborhood parents are working with the school to start a foreign language program to begin in kindergarten and 1st grade in 2010. With involved parents, a great neighborhood, exceptional teachers, and a rigorous academic program designed to challenge and stimulate children, this school is worth a closer look.

I have two children that have graduated from this school and my 3rd and 4th children are now attending Squaw Peak Traditional Academy. There was a time a few years ago when we had some problems with the principal and office staff not being very approachable. Kudos to the district for turning this around. The teachers at Squaw Peak have always been stellar and the best in the state!!! Now we have a principal and office staff to match. There are great things happening at this school. Busing has stopped and we now have a neighborhood school, more parents are getting involved, there is a program in the works to offer Spanish as a 2nd language. The district has done their job to give us back our school. Now it is our turn as the community to support our local school and send our children there. You will not be dissapointed!!

I live nearby (Camelback Del Este HOA) just east. We are part of a concerned parent grp adding Spanish Immersion at Squaw Peak Traditional Academy (new name). The Principal/officials will offer Spanish Immersion for the 2010 Kindergarteners (+ regular classes also). After research, this move assures English speaking kids a broader ed. with superior academic achievement. For info web page: www.squawpeakimmersion.com. Read about it, get on a mailing list, etc. This school HAD been busing of kids from outside our area (the area got older yrs ago) and so read test results with this in mind. Busing has stopped. There are great things happening at Squaw Peak & a staff to make it a newer better school. This yr only 1 class per grade a smaller quality ed. Scores are up two levels! Come check us out in Nov.'s Orientation. Get in before the waiting list begins. Join us! Meeting date TBD.

I am the parent of a student who will attend Squaw Peak next fall and who is currently attending the preschool that is housed on the Squaw Peak campus. Although the test scores are poor and the recent past has been far from stellar, the future is bright at Squaw Peak. The new principal is amazing and has a vision to bring this back to being the excelling neighborhood school that it once was. They have recently stopped busing students from outside of the boundaries and therefore the admission numbers are lower, however many residents of the neighborhood, including myself, are choosing to move forward with the new vision. We believe that Squaw Peak will soon return to excelling and will be bursting at the seems of their beautiful campus with children who live in the neighborhood and parents that are actively involved in their children's future.

My son has excelled in the Magnet program at Squaw Peak. The teachers have been wonderful and concerned about his future...guiding him to programs like Junior Ambassadors (student exchange) and talking to me about possible scholarships he might qualify for in the future. Since he began attending Squaw Peak 3 years ago, I've noticed he has a higher self esteem I think because he is with other students who are more on his educational level (in Magnet) and the teachers seem to really treat the kids with respect. Squaw Peak also has (in my opinion) the best band teacher. (The band sounds fantastic!) I am not familiar with the sports programs but my son is involved in student council, yearbook, band, and Junior Ambassadors. Each program has enhanced his overall academic experience.

This school has been a bad experience for my children. It is one thing to have rules but this school has gone way over board. I feel my children were mistreated while they were there. The punishment for incomplete homework or tardiness is strict detention in the class or the office during the entire recess while all the other kids are outside releasing their energy playing. They punish the kids if the parents get them to school late!
