The Principal's point of view

Thank you for considering Leading Edge Academy. Here is some information that may be of interest in making your schooling decision: -Our principal has a Master s Degree in School Administration with over 25 years of school experience - Employees at all levels are hired based on their qualifications and experience. -ALL current teachers with school-age children have them enrolled in the school. -The founders children graduated from a Leading Edge School or have grandchildren attending a Leading Edge Academy -The school leases their facilities from Mountain View Family Church. There is a tenant/landlord relationship with the church. While the two are not affiliated in any other way, we do enjoy an excellent working relationship. -The school is governed by a school board whose meetings are open to the public. Leading Edge continually strives to be the best and we are proud of our academic results. -We received a letter grade of B from the state of Arizona for student academic progress the past two years (since letter grades were issued) and Highly Performing under the previous State grading system. We are striving for an "A" this year. -100% of our 2011-12 5th graders (the highest grade level on this campus) scored MEETS or EXCEEDS on the most recent AIMS Reading. These can be seen on the Great Schools website or at http://www10.ade.az.gov/ReportCard/Schools.aspx

I wouldn't recommend this school to any family! I thought this school was awesome a couple years ago. Then it got a new principal. Well, from then on that school went down hill! In my opinion it was no longer a safe environment. Kids were being bullied all the time and nothing was being done about it. Rocks being thrown at kids heads among other incidents. I finally had enough after trying to talk with the principal being reassured that things were being taken care of, only to find out that wasn't the case. We pulled our children out, and I am so glad I did!! I will say, that my children both had an AWESOME teacher!! Its a shame their hands are tied when it comes to discipline. I also find it strange, that after a year with a new principal, it seemed almost half the teachers left after the 2011/2012 school year was over! I will be curious how many teachers remain after this year! Such a shame.........

I wish could say my experience was great there, but it was not . It is sad how far behind my kids are on their education. The secretary is really unfriendly, and the school is in need of some serious TLC. The "bells and whistles" matter when students needs extra help. A reading center and a computer center would have really helped my kid last year. As far as the tenant/renter relationship, the Principal is heavily involved in the Church. This might be a great thing for some parents if they are looking for that. Most of the staff do not have their kids attend the school, but that is not my main concern. The lack of quality education is. There Gilbert and Maricopa campus are good, I recommend driving to them, but I would think twice before attending this one.

My son attends LEA and I am fully pleased with his academic progress. His teacher is amazing with the students; as well as has the ability to teach children of all learning types / levels / behavior issues, etc. While I do wish there was a library & a gym for PE/lunches, these are not items that break the deal for me. I know that my son will receive a well rounded education in his coming years at LEA. I recommend this school for parents in the area who are looking for a place that excels in academics, as well as provides Character based learning, and holds a high level of integrity.

My daughter went to this school for the past 5 years. We moved her into the Chandler district this school year and I was nervous to see how she would measure up. Within the first two weeks, all of her teachers asked to move her into honors classes. She has maintained a 4.0 all year and is a member of NJHS. I was thrilled to know that Leading Edge prepared her so well. The facility is lacking some bells and whistles, but the campus is nice, the faculty is fantastic and we had a wonderful experience!

This is church/Charter school with a paster for a principal. While they do follow state standards, they surely find the loopholes and provide only adequacy in education and children's safety! There are some good teachers BUT the school is run by a very close-knit family which happens to be related (by blood) to the folks at the church on campus and as much as they say they are a separate entity, they are not. Your child's education is not their 1st interest. Just ask the staff (or FOUNDER) if their children attend Leading Edge Academy.

Leading Edge Academy Queen Creek is an incredible school. The teachers and principal truly care about the students. While the school does not have all the "bells and whistles" other schools offer, it makes up for it with the qualitly education and caring staff. Leading Edge Academy is by far, the best choice in the Queen Creek/San Tan area.

The teachers 1st grade through 5th are great. They do the best they can with what limited supplies they have available. The school lacks a library, computer lab and lunch room. What computers they do have are old and out dated. Most of the children eat in their rooms which have carpet. The old out dated carpet is very unsanitary. There are several other issues with regard to cleanliness (bathrooms and multipurpose rooms). The RTI and Special Ed staff are also great, though the school does not provide adequate spacing for them to do their job to the best of their ability. It would have been in the schools best interest and the students if they had their own classroom. One small room, the size of a walk in closet, is next to the bathroom and is very distracting for students who are trying to learn. The other room is next to the doors that lead to the playground, which is easily over taken with the noise of children going to recess. The school does not have strong leadership. The best advice I can give to fellow parents, is do your research, think of what is best for your child and their future, before you jump in to a school that leaves you feeling short.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Arizona used the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) to test students in reading and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and 10, writing in grades 5, 6, 7, and 10, and in science in grades 4, 8 and 10. AIMS is a standards-based test, which means that it measures how well students have mastered Arizona learning standards. Students must pass the grade 10 AIMS in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to meet or exceed state standards on the test.

About the tests

Arizona uses AZ LEARNS Achievement Profiles to indicate schools' overall performance each year. For elementary and middle schools, the profiles are based on current and historical aggregated AIMS results, MAP results and whether or not the school made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). For high schools, AIMS results, AYP status and graduation/dropout rates are used. Schools are identified as Excelling, Highly Performing, Performing Plus, Performing, Underperforming, Failing to Meet Academic Standards or Pending.
