Safford Middle School

This is a great school for 7th & 8th graders. The staff has high expectations and most of the teachers are excellent (not the 7th grade math teachers though). I always found great communication from teachers, as well as an eagerness to tutor when needed. They offer student laptops, most sports, several clubs and focus on academics equally to sports. Both of my daughters attended there and loved it! They also have an exceptional principal!!

I have had two children atttent SMS, this year has been especially difficult. The school seems to be taking a step backwards and bullying is becoming an issue. My child is literally sick most days prior to attending school. The bullying is severe enough I have had to go the local police department. The principle chooses to handle this issue by calling my son in continuously attempting to get him to give names. Everyone knows this will only increase the bullying he will encounter. The principle has the mind set and has out right stated "This is my school and I am going to run it my way", what example does this set for parents, children and the community. Parent and longtime resident of Safford, Az.

This school stands out in its dedication to kids! There are special rewards and incentives for outstanding academic achievement and most important, the teachers care about the students. My child feels safe there and feels that he is cared for. I have been impressed with the teachers devoting time outside of class to help kids learn - wonderful!
