Our school is a Leader in Me school where we promote leadership in the classroom, school halls, as well as practice the habits outside of school hours. We have a clean and organized, friendly environment that students want to be apart of. Our staff is welcoming and we love our students.

I love the fact that Walker Butte is transforming into a "Leader In Me" school. I can already see a difference in appearance and attitude with the staff and students every time I drop my student off to school. My student is very excited to come to school and learn. She is also bringing what she has learned from school (the 7 habit language) into our home and making sure that we follow the 7 habits too. I also like how Walker Butte holds family nights that are free. We went to the gingerbread night and had a great time as a family!

Walker Butte K-8 is an excellent school. My child loves being a Walker Butte Coyote and has a lot of pride in his school. The teachers are caring and kind. The administration has great communication and are always around on campus. There are a lot opportunities for the students, such as: activities, clubs, sports, tutoring, and parent nights.

Walker Butte is a very well staffed school. My children attended Walker Butte and my last is graduating this year. I can attest that neither of my children would have been as successful in high school had it not been for the education they received at Walker Butte. Walker Butte has changed for the better over the years and with it now being a Leader In Me school, I have seen changes in the behavior of the students who are now attending.

Walker Butte school has really improved. The new Leader in Me program has my children excited about coming to school. They even use some of the terms at home. "You need to think win-win" my daughter often says. The inside of the school looks fresh and inviting. My kids love their teachers.

Walker Butte is a Leader in Me school. With this, the kids are taught to live the 7 habits on a day to day basis. The values that my kids learn prepares them to be a responsible individual and leaders in their own craft as well. I like the parent-teacher communication and the way teachers modify instructions to accommodated gifted kids. The administrators are approachable and address concerns in a timely manner. I like the activities that I can bond with my children like the Reading Night, Math night, student led conferences and different assemblies. I can perceive this school getting an A rating in a year or two.

Walker Butte is a great school! I have had the privilege of working with amazing students for well over a decade. Walker Butte strives to meet the individual needs of students as well as focusing on group achievements. I enjoy when alumni come back to visit and share their success stories. I am especially pleased when they come back to work at the school! Mrs. Gates Teacher Librarian

The school is way under standards. The teachers are not giving enough attention to students to make sure they retain the information, do not check with practice exercises and they rush the students. Tutoring is a joke. Transportation is a problem as well. I am not happy with the kids at this school.

I like the parent communication. I liked getting newsletters from teachers telling what my kid was going to be taught that week. I also like the Principal. He is always approachable and will sit down and talk with us. I think the teachers are doing the best they can. Schools have had a lot of budget cuts and teachers are working hard despite this.

I'm an 8th grader at Walker Butte & to be honest going to school is like a roller coaster ride. There's good parts & awful parts. I love 3 out of my 4 teachers. However, the immaturity level is insane. These kids are in for a smack in the face when they get to high school! Also, they rush kids into classes far too advanced just so that they look better & smarter than other schools. I was a geometry student & I had to bus to & from the high school for math which sucked because Poston's teachers are 10x worse! Not to mention I was failing the class & had to drop out. Now I'm back in the class I took last year & the teacher makes me feel stupid, unaccomplished, & unwelcome. I also must mention that the guidance counselor is a total space cadet! Also, thanks to the assistant principal for not giving me a copy of my eligibility packet like she promised for days, I can't try out for high school cheer. This school is so broke & they waste their money on ridiculous things. Also, there was a teacher who cussed in front of my parents at my little sibling's parent teacher conference. (Did I mention that prison food is healthier and more filling than the school lunch?)

I agree ... School aid is way under qualified. They like to make you feel like your an inch tall if you complain about her. She must be related to someone to still be working there.

My daughter loves her teacher. You can tell she really cares. However, they need to get new school nurse. She is condescending and wont take responsibility for her mistakes. My daughter, 9 yrs old, said the school nurse made her cry and felt very uncomfortable. Not a very happy parent now :-(

My son attended 2 yrs in the K-2 area. I noticed mistakes that had been on GRADED homework; so obviously neither teacher properly does what is expected of ANYONE WORTHY OF HAVING A LICENSE TO TEACH. If parent is highly involved, and reviews every asssignment and test that comes home with them: They will easily get onto the honor roll. DON'T EXPECT THE TEACHERS TO DO EVERYTHING...WE AS PARENTS HAVE AN OBLIGATION TO OUR KIDS TO KNOW & REVIEW EVERYTHING WITH THEM. I consider this to be just a tiny bit below "AVERAGE" because many improvements need to be made. There are children being beat-up and abused by other students on campus. No discipline ever occurs, but any student can tell you of something they've personally witnessed. Just ask.. it's TRUE! Teachers often pick "pets"; and then tend to ignore other students. Then they will turn a "bilnd eye" to the children who are failing. Teachers seem pre-occupied, self-absorbed, and with a lack of experience or sound moral charachter (One or another). My son did very well there academically; but i think it is mostly due to the HOME-SCHOOLING he recieved from me while in attendence at this school.

I am a mom who not satisfied with this school at all. This school has such a bad reputation between students and teachers. There is no daily/weekly reward system put in place school wide for these students who work hard, other than the honor roll, and not everyone gets on the honor roll. The teachers grading system is awful. Some are hard on their students when it comes to school work, while other teachers lack at not enough participation with the students. The PTA is awful. I've never seen an activity, or any involvement of the PTA at the school. There is an extreme shortage of parent volunteers. The Principal is not very good, and his office staff are extremely self centered. Their special needs department needs a make over, it's terrible. The 7-8th grade students who play sports, are extremely cocky. They are known to be extremely rough, and they manhandle other teams with out getting fouls called on them. Students hardly ever use the cross walks. Students are crossing all over the busy streets of the school. If you do not stop, the kids flip you off, and yell at you as you drive by. I would stay far away from this school as possible. I'm getting ready to move on out.

I'm an 8th grader currently attending Walker butte K-8 school, Ever since ive moved to this school in 5th grade, this school has been not only a terrible influence, but has ruined my middle school experience. The childern that attend this school are; rude, perverted, and have no respect for anyone, most importantly the younger grades. The teachers are lazy and do little to keep children under control. they have had a mold infestation, the hygien is incomprehensably disgusting, and the students themselves awful, now its not there fault, the elders who shape them are at blame, who are? the teachers, the parents, and the principal. Now i can GAURENTEE that ive learned more in my 4th grade year in a public downtown chicago school than i learned in 5th+6th grade combined! the guidance counselar does nothing to help the children, only to collect the paycheck, the principal doesnt steer us in the right direction, rather just observe classrooms all day. the higher up staff jumps to conclusions and they are at fault for some bullying that happens here. anonymous source? doesnt exist here. theve revealed students names who has been bullied. the classrooms are crowded, ty to the band+libr.

I read all the reviews from others and against all odds I still put my kids in this school. I wanted to form my own opinon on the school after all could a school be that bad? YES IT CAN!!!! The ast. principal on the upper campus is a scared mousy type person. She does nothing in the formof disipline, it's a wonder the kids keep acting like fools. The kids on the k-2 campus seem to be under control, the kids act a lot nicer and more in control. Upper grade 3-8 is insane and totally out of control. Kids can disrupt the class and the teachers let it go on even when parents complain. Teachers are lazy and there to collect a check THATS IT! I would NEVER rec. this school to parents who want their child to have higher education won't happen at this school. Admin. does not care nor do teachers and it shows. Sorry I didn't believe what I read on the school. Its negative from yrs back and still today is not any better! DO NOT BRING YOUR KIDS TO THIS SCHOOL Eduprize is worth the waiting list get the kids on it!

Horrible school- WB has some good teachers but a lot of them appear to just not care. Staff does a poor job of communicating with parents. I ask my children what they learned in school they always say review or preparing for a test. I don t think my children learn anything at this school and there test scores reflect as such. Bulling is a huge issue and staff doesn t appear to do anything to prevent the issues. Kids are spouse to report the issues but nothing ever comes from it. The school guidance counselor is useless I don t know what she is paid to do. The aids watching the kids while they play will do every thing possible to avoid dealing with bulling on the play ground. If you are able to take your child to another school in the area then you should. I will be removing my kids!

I think its funny how everytime there is a negative review about this school, there are three new ones that rave about how great it is, how convenient. The honest truth is in the AIMS test scores. This school is not doing its job with these children. We have three children at this school and although two get decent grades, As and Bs mostly, not one of them passed the AIMS tests in any subject, all were below standards. An A at this school is a C at any other excelling school. They pass a child, when they should be repeating the grade. The staff is overwhelmed at the front desk too.

My child has had a great experience at Walker Butte so far. I love my child's 4th grade teacher. Mrs."Bro.." is great. She is an experienced teacher and it shows! She sends me, and the other parents, I am sure, weekly updates and information each week by email so I always know what my child is learning and what is going on at school. She is working with my child on areas he needs help in. My child looks forward to going to school each day and often comes home with funny stories to tell me, and often tells me something new he learned that day.. I know that my child will learn and grow this year at Walker Bute. I have enjoyed the small town feel of the community and love this school so far.

My children just finished their first year at Walker Butte; one K & one 4th. Mrs. "B"(K) is amazing! Although my son began K at 4 yrs old, he excelled with her. My 4th grdr had Mrs."S", a 1st yr teacher. She helped my daughter bring grades up from Bs & Cs to all As & one C by year end. I was not pleased with her lack of communication w/parents & her organization but it did improve some by year end. Pincipal A & VP Mrs.M were very responsive to my concerns & promptly addressed issues when brought to their attention. Office ladies are fantastic! Being new the the area, they were always available to answer any questions I had. I can't say enough good things about them. Still not sure how I feel abt the "year round" schedule. Still adjusting as we start our second year at WB.

I am a parent of 3, 2 of which attend Walker Butte. One is a 1st grader and is doin wonderful!! I couldnt have asked for a better teacher!! The other is a 6th grader. Im not so thrilled. Im not gonna completely blame the school for the feelings that I have. Im mostly disturbed with the kids themselves. There are quite a few bullies and trouble makers. My child has had soooo many problems in this school with kids taking his stuff, being bullied by them, and so forth. I hate even sending him to school anymore. I also dont enjoy the fact that when i pick my kids up from school, half of the other students are acrossed the street smoking. Ive seen 3 fights outside that school and Ive only lived here for 6 months. Where are these kids' parents?? I seriously just dont get it anymore.

I am a 7th grade student at Walker Butte and I think it is great. I was new this year and I made a ton of friends. The environment is very friendly and the teachers are really nice. Although I do have to say that they are lacking in the extra curricular activities, it is a overall good school. But I do think that they should give harsher punishments to unruly kids. I would recommended this school to everyone!

I am a parent of 3 children that attend Walker Butte. I have been thoroughly pleased with the education that my children have received and with the communication with the school staff. I have two kids @ WB 7th & 3rd. We live in an area that is growing incredibly fast and the school is in a constant catch-up mode. I do commend the staff/faculty for their performance; truly a thankless job. My kids are doing great @ WB; getting out of it what we as parents instill in them. My kids are constantly on the honor role. Yes some programs are lacking, but all things considered a very good school. It is one issue we have to deal with because of our choice to reside in the area.

In Mesa Public Schools my daughter did great, she loved school. She participated in the reading, math, and news club, and played an instrument. My daughter always had good grades A's sometimes B's and teachers loved her. Since coming to Walkerbutte her grades have suffered, she is unhappy and does not participate in any activities. The environment is chaotic and there is no control over the children. In my opinion there are only teachers looking for paychecks and not the educators of yesterday that cared about our children and there futures. Sad. Due to overcrowding my daughter has been in two classes this year. Both teachers have had poor communication skills or none and have no idea how to mentor they only scream, yell, and insult the children. I am worried that these kids will suffer academically and emotionally. The principle does seems to care but needs to hold teachers accountable.

My sons teacher seems to be doing well with what she has, still the hopeless feeling that it isnt getting better any time soon, makes you really worry if your doing the right thing when you enroll your child here. The bus system is very unorganized. Overall the school I still believe is doing the best with what they have, which is a good effort.

This school is very over crowded! High teacher turnover al though some won't be missed. We need more teachers which requires more money which we do not have. More homes will be purchased this spring this situation will only get harder. These poor teachers too many kids to control, be careful if there is a disruptive child the whole class might pay. Your kids won't be little for ever think about the turnover in the upper grades and where they will have to go to highschool. New highschool is suppose to be done by 2008? Look to see what has been approved for funding. Concerned parent

I have three children at WB. I think since Principle Knorr left the school has suffered. The curriculum is weak and the teachers appear not to be able to handle the large class sizes. As a result my children are not being challenged. I am looking to make a move to better the situation as soon as possible.

My three children attend WB. Three years ago I pulled my oldest out of Walker Butte (he was the only one in school at the time)My concern was the overcrowding that was beginning to happen as more houses were begin bought so quickly. However, I regret that. The charter school was filled with kids that were kicked out of other schools. I returned my child to Walker Butte and have been very happy. Principle Knorr loved those kids and it shows. The Aims scores are Awesome! I am so proud to be a part of Walker Butte. My 2nd grader had a bully issue. As son as I addressed the teach, she was on top of it. The bully was brought under control, the parents were notified and the problem resolved. Thank you Teachers for all your hard work! Cari M.

My son and daughter both attend Walker Butte. I personally am a huge fan of the school. I feel their Principal Mr. Knorr gets very involved with the kids and because of this they are learning that school is not only valuable but it can be fun as well. He has been very encouraging to both of my children. I feel the quality of the academic programs is good, although I strongly feel the academic programs are only as good as the teachers teaching. The only thing that confuses me about their program was the decision to have the second language french vs. spanish. I feel it would be much more 'value add' if children were allowed to learn a language that was more prevolent in their society.

My daughter was in the school for 3 years. I figured I would be patient and help out but I just didn't see that light at the end of the tunnel. I couldn't handle the stress any longer. This school is new and the area seems to be growing quicker than the school can keep up. Student to teacher ratio in 2004/05 for my child was 1:30. Discipline is lacking for unruly behavior. PE is targeted to help only those who are already good with sports. Boys and girls had PE together in 5th grade. I truly believe the school is experiencing growing pains and making efforts to improve. But, I was not pleased with the education my child received there in 2004/05.

I think this scholl does well under it's circumstances. Many new children enroll every month, then another new school opens, then children leave, then new ones come and etc... We have been very happy with the teachers, the academics and the overall workings of the school. Our son does well and makes honor roll and I truly believe that no matter what school you attend, your child gets out of it what they are willing to put into it. So, if they are motivated, have parental involvement and apply themself, there is really no reason for them not to get a good education.

My daughter attended Walker Butte for 5th grade after moving from Colorado. She was unhappy the entire year and her grade dropped considerably. There were too many students in her class (25 to 32) and many were very disruptive. There was not adequate discipline for unruly students. And there were a LOT of unruly students. It appeared that her teacher was doing more baby sitting than teaching. Questions were NOT encouraged. Assignments were often unclear. Very poor 'band / orchestra' program. Very poor 'PE' program for kids without athletic talent. Art program was all but non-existent (she had 5 different teachers). My daughter's self esteem dropped considerably due in part to 'bullies'. I talked with faculty about my concerns, but did not feel like they were taken seriously. I do not recommend this school for anyone who is interested in quality education.

School is growing so fast, teachers seem to barley keep up, let alone excel your childs education. There are new student added to class rooms weekely and classes are often split. So your kid may be pulled out of a class and put with another teacher half way through the school year. This has happened twice to us. I would not recommend this school.

I have been displeased with Walker Butte School due to several facts. One I have a child that is academically gifted and it took the school until half way through the 4th grade to get him into enhanced learning classes. Secondly the noise level and behavior of the average class in this school is way over the top and it makes it difficult for children to learn when the teacher is spending half her day disciplining. Most schools begin instruments at 4th grade this school waits until fifth so overall I would say the learning atmosphere is substandard, classrooms are often overcrowded, and opportunities are very limited for the students.

I am embarrassed that my son goes to this school. The school standards and extremely low, they don't enforce the rules they post, they lack in pride and the teachers are more involved in each other than they are the students. The office personnel are completely rude! They act so inconvenienced when I am in the office to ask question. Last years talent show what a joke! That was awful! The audience was way out of control and not one person would take action!

A lot of tension between teachers make for a hostile working environment which trickles down into student attitude and acheivement. New leadership in 2004-2005 may eliminate this problem.
