As a parent of a child with special needs, I am very happy with the level of effort put forth by teachers to meet my child's needs. They have been both caring and professional.
I think Zuni Hills has the potential to be a good school, but I feel many of the teachers are still very new at this and don't communicate well with the students or parents. When questioned on comments or notes made in students daily journals, they seem to back down from their initial statements. I do think they have a better relationship with students than some of the older teachers. We tried to have our son moved into an advanced class and were unable to, even though we had provided past SAT scores and previous report cards. Our son has continued all year to be unchallenged and unstimulated in this class. It's a shame that this class academic structure is just now picking up where my son left off at the end of 6th grade. I feel it was mostly a wasted school year.
I am happy with the teachers and administration at Zuni Hills. It has a positive atmosphere and education is their highest priority.
My children have attended 4 schools in the Peoria District due to new schools being built and Zuni Hills is by far the best! The staff is awesome and they truly care about the children.
This school has teachers who seem to really care about my child. I have appreciated the special help in reading that my child has received.
The academic level at Zuni Hills is embarassing! My first grader brought home the same papers as my pre-schooler. Not only was this teacher unable to adapt to the different learning levels in her classroom, she was mean and tore up children's papers, not the kinds of person I want teaching my children--am looking for different alternatives.
I would like to meet the person who commented in March and commend them for stepping out and telling the truth about what really happens in our schools. It's too bad that things have changed so much that we can't even get a decent teacher anymore that truly cares about how your child does in school. We are in the age of 'pass the buck' and the staff at Zuni Hills (including administration) has learned how to do this very well.
The staff at Zuni Hills has absolutely no clue about dealing with kids with any special needs and is unwilling to learn. Their goal is to transfer less than perfect kids to another school as soon as possible.
