Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My daughter went to Kingswood for 2 years (kinder and 1st grades) and I'm not impressed one bit! I switched her to a charter and she's much happier as well I! Don't send your child to Kingswood - they won't progress!

I do not think there is anything wrong with this school in regards to the education and anything related to the kids being taught properly,etc...The office staff is great but once in a while the office manager can be a rude, grumpy man. The teachers as a people and the principal are the not the best, lack social skills,etc... but as teachers, they get the job done. They are good at their jobs so I could care less how rude they are to me as long as my son is being educated correctly. My son is in kindergarten and I did not and still do not want him attending here but there are no private schools in the are, and charter schools are terrible, so were stuck. The kindergarten teacher we got and while she is good at her job, from experience and investigating it feels like she may have been a Sargent in her past life, and she lacks in the communication department, but other then that I do not think there is anything wrong with the school. Students, parents, and personalities are one thing, but curriculum and being a good teacher or principal is another. Will keep you posted...

Terrible parking! Dropping off and picking up is a nightmare. Parent teacher nights a nightmare! Your not allowed to park in front, that's blocked off. You can't park to the right that's faculty only. You can't park on side of street you'll get a ticket. You can't park across the street that's the churches parking lot. Ummmn hello! I was told by the cop to keep driving in circles until I was able to turn into parking lot, that was a crazy day as the street was blocked by massive traffic with nowhere to go, the buses couldn't even get out of the school! Something needs to be done. This is absurd.

Kingswood Elementary is a terribly ran school. From the us against them mentality of its staff to it's 'we don't have any money for books, so your child should get used to deciphering 3rd and 4th generation photocopies of lessons'. Moreover, the principal has cultivated a staff with a Department of Corrections mentality versus a 'we are here to teach you' mentality, who spend a large majority of their time managing small issues that typically work themselves out. If you have a choice in where you child goes to school, you really want to avoid this one!

I am very disappointed in Kingswood and have been for the last few years. The administration doesn't seem to be there for the kids, the teachers try to overcome such low morale but something needs to change there and its the administration. When your leader is a poor one how do you expect the kids or teachers to excel. So many staff have left or been pushed out of there as well. It hasbecome one of the saddest schools in the district when it used to be one of the best. Poor judgement on the Districts behalf to keep the administration on staff. after numerous reports of failure and disappointment have come to their attention .They have lost the great employees and chose to keep the failing staff in their place.

from my experience, kigswood is the worst school in surprise, there are a so few teachers that really care about their students in this school but , that's not enough....Don't enroll your children here, I am a parent and I have keep my son in this school for 4 years hoping that maybe the next teacher will do better, luckily this year was really good as far as the teacher but, a little too late... thank Good we are moving and my son will be out of the dysart school district. the worst in AZ this page wouldn't be enough to tell you all the problems I have had with them. sooo many....

Parent of a 6th grader, 3rd grader , and kinder. Our school experience was good. All three had daily homework and we got regular progress reports. The parents are responsible to make sure the students do the homework...not the teachers. In our home we make sure we do our part....more parents should.

This school has problems ranging from a weak principle and lazy teachers to pathetic play equipment and slim resources. I had to beg for progress reports for my 6th grader, and when I finally got one it only had 3 assignments out of 21 graded! I see the district making changes to clear out some of the worst teachers, but at this rate it will be years before they have weeded out the bad ones! Needless to say, my children will not be at Kingswood next year!

My grandson was enrolled in the 6th grade for the last 2 1/2 months of the 2007-2008 school year. From veiwing the test scores, it is little wonder why the 6th graders didn't do better. Homework was nonexistint and all I heard about was watching TV in science and playing games in Language arts. I received progress reports for half his classes. No report from the class he failed, even tho I asked to be kept informed when he was enrolled.

I have three children in Kingswood, two in fourth grade and one in kindergarten, and my children have had great success in every grade. My older ones have been there since kindergarten so I've been able to see things progress and change for the good. I've also witnessed many parents complain about everything from teachers to homework. Too much homework and the teachers being too hard on the students and it's these parents that feel their children shouldn't have so much homework and classwork that keeps all the other kids behind. Hopefully the new zoning will allow Kingswood to succeed in '08-'09 and get the ratings back up to 'highly performing'

My son's first grade teacher was great. The parking was horrible, very few parking spots available and part of the parking that was available was closed off. The district is horrible with zoning, there is a new school right behind our house and yet we have to drive our son to this one.

My son's Kindergarten teacher was very hard on the kids acidemically. Although this was difficult at first - being my first experience with school - I appreciated how hard she worked to get them ready for first grade and beyond. My son likes to disrupt class and talk but has made great strides under her expert care. She was great and we will miss her next year. He has learned so much and always wanted to go to class.

Kingswood's teachers and staff are doing a very good job. Discipline problems have been handled very well by the behavior teacher. My son acted up in class and I received a phone call and he had my son explain his behavior to me. I appreciated the phone call and the consequences were adaquate. My son told me that he likes the ISS teacher as he treated him with respect. I encourage parents to send their children to this school. I want to warn parents that the cafeteria food is very fatty and has high sugar in most items. Pack a lunch.

The staff at Kingswood Elementary are among the best I've dealt with. My child's teacher, Mrs. Angusuwan is top-notch and is in a league of her own. The curriculum matches the needs of the children and any issues/questions I have are addressed immediately and professionally. A+!

Dysart Unified need I say more...this school has a long way to go. I had three kids here. They were all unhappy, this school needs a makeover. It has had to go through alot of fluctuations alot of kids move in and out of this school because of growth in area.It is not all the schools fault but it has got to be better prepared to deal with all of this growth.Staff in front office could be friendlier too.

I totally agree with the previous post. All one need do is look at the 'mess' Paul Tighe has allowed to happen with the school construction delays this year. Kingswood has great teachers. They need a great leader to support them.

I found that this schools aproach to math wasn't the most confidence building in the students. The students had 30 seconds to answer 30 problems [+0 thru +9]. They could not advance untill completing each level. My son got very frustrated with the time aspect--he would know the answer but get flustered by the time---wrong focus so young. There were also disciplinary issues not addressed [character behaviors]--too much for teachers to be held accountable for--not monitoring better. However, still not getting addressed. Science and history also not a focus---a lot on reading due to national expectations and teachers were frustrated with not being able to focus in other areas.

The 2nd grade classrooms were over-ratio until december break, at which time they added a new teacher. The classes are crowded. Resources were very limited and relied heavily on parents, which is fine except that many parents dont help these poor teachers. Parking and traffic to pick up and drop off is a total joke. Vice princ is great but overworked. I was told to bring my own bandaids if my child was to need more bandaids for a blister! My child will not be returning.

My kids have been at Kingswood for the last five years. I have seen a definite school improvement in the last four. Teachers are academically focused on state standards while remaining advocates for their students social well being. My daughter has had the priveledge of having the same teacher twice. Once in second grade, then in fifth. We adore this teacher as she made our daughter feel special and inspired her to learn about new things. Over all Kingswood has done a great job! The administrative team is very supportive of students and parents. They compliment eachother and that brings a wonderful balance of power with strong leadership. Administrators and teachers are always willing to meet with parents to discuss any concerns, and they make students enjoy learning and strive to achieve new things. Hats off to you Kingswood!

Kingswood needs new leadership. They need a no nonsense approach and only a new leader would provide that. The current leadership is awful. The school is awful and has a longway to go!

Kingswood is becoming the school that it should be. With the recent boundary changes it now serves its neighborhood and the student population is reflective of that. Unfortunately some good teachers have gone over the years but some good remain. New ideas seem to be flowing and new voices are allowed to be heard. I am happy to see this trend and hope it continues.

Kingswood has a strong primary program, and the upper grades are improving. The administration does its best to keep the parents happy and to keep the children safe and able to focus on their work. I feel confident that my child is in a school that will keep her challenged and motivated.

I would not recommend this school to anyone. In fact, I would highly discourage enrolling your children at Kingswood. The administration goes to great lengths to make Kingswood appear like a top-notch school. But there are simply no bandages thick enough to cover what goes on underneath - in the classrooms while parents are not there. Teachers use archaic discipline methods (ie. making students put their heads down on their desks, placing them outside the classroom individually, belittling children in front of other classmates, taking away priviledges in which the other students may engage, etc.) I found the teachers resorting to 'boot camp' methods to get their students to comply with classroom rules. Not only does it seem bad: think about how this affects self-esteem and attitudes about education. Kingswood may become the good school it appears to be once the administration and the older, authoritarian teachers are replaced (especially in the early grades). The community needs to show concern for the future of Kingswood by not allowing themselves to be intimidated by teachers, and by refusing to allow the administration to paint such a rosy picture of the suffering school.
