Yay for Spring Break! I have a few free moments, something I never have during the school year. I have been teaching at MY school for almost 20 years. The staff, the students (past and present), and their parents are my family, and what a great family it is. The students are happy to be at school, and so is the staff. We work hard, and our efforts show. A Ben's Bells Be Kind mural will be installed before the school year ends because Coronado Cougars are Kind Kids. We have one more Tucson Symphony Orchestra concert next week; a quintet comes to play for our elementary students. My school campus is quiet, happy, clean, beautiful (grass, trees not usually found in the desert, flowers, cacti), and safe. Although I treasure my time away from school in order to spend time with my husband and son and to relax a bit, I look forward to greeting my students on Monday morning. I love being a teacher!

Coronado is a fantastic school. Our children have attended private faith-based schools, charter schools and Coronado. We've "been there, done that". I challenge anyone to find a school with more dedicated, passionate or invested teachers. Each teacher provides unparalleled enthusiasm to their students and maintains outstanding communication with the parents. The administration, specifically Mrs. Goodman, refers to my wife, son and I as "family". The staff understands balance while maintaining a challenging learning environment. Equally important is the manner in how matters of student conduct are addressed. The teachers and administrators alike do not tolerate poor citizens or bad behavior. We trust the education and wellbeing of our son to the thoughtful oversight of the staff of Coronado k-8, you should too. Lastly, remember to apply your tax credit each year to this school. Dollar for dollar, the best investment you'll make this year. The school needs funds and rightfully deserves it.

I was the type of parent who would only want my child to go to a school where the ratings were high. This is my son's first year here in 6th grade and I feel this school is above average. I am shocked that the rating is only a 6 for my son has only gone to 10 ratings schools and his teachers are outstanding and work with parents. I have dealt with Mr Ball and Mrs Goodman and find them both with outstanding listening skills and work with parents. The school is a safe place and if your child is "above" average (gosh, writing that is strange) they work that your child is not left behind in any way. We purchased a house .3 miles from this school so that he can continue here.

The school climate at Coronado is outstanding. The teachers really care about the students. They provide firm guidance and high expectations for my son and daughter, and it is apparent in everything they do that this comes from a deep love of the children. I couldn't be happier with the school and the education my kids are getting!

The education this school gives is great. One problem is how the new principle handles the middle school. His ways are perfect for third graders but middle school students see right through the rules and continue their normal ways

I love the fine arts classes at Coronado! My oldest son has been in chorus for three years and it has made a huge difference in his confidence. My youngest son plays cello. We attended the winter chorus concert a couple days ago and it was amazing too see how the chorus has grown! All the teachers at Coronado that I have interacted with really seem to care about their students. I moved out to Catalina for the sole purpose of getting my kids into a safe neighborhood with great public schools. Coronado is it!

We recently enrolled our child to Coronado from a small private school mid-semester. The transition could not gone more smoothly. We were worried about the size, but the administration and teachers were extremely helpful and easy to communicate with. The vice principal even sent me a photo on our son's first day and a brief update. We worked with a counselor to ensure that our son was appropriately placed in his classes. He is really enjoying school and his classes are interesting and challenging for him. We are also pleased to find a variety of programs like band, drumming, and Odyssey of the Mind offered by the school.

I just want to say, thank you for being innovative and using Remind 101. I Love it for my son and myself. And you can quote me on that to all the other teachers who haven't decided to use it yet, it is an amazing way for parents to schedule and prioritize time for homework and studying for tests in a busy family life.

As a parent I have been so impressed with Ms,Goodman as she dealt with a challenging student situation. It was handled quickly and in a way that benefited all students involved. Open house was a great opportunity to meet a caring staff that knew the name of my child and where she sat her first week at a new school. i also appreciated the way the staff is embracing the common core. Very impressive as this is the direction education is moving.

There is no question that education is changing, and with it, teachers must change too. The fact is Coronado has and always will set the bar high for its students, and staff. Coronado is a "hub" of activitiy. It is at the forfront of challenging students with the new Common Core Standards; this school provides productive outlets such as athletics, clubs, Odessy of Mind competition, Math Counts competition, and community outreach. Coronado is not just a school, but an extension of community and family. When a student, a faculty member or an entire family needs help, Coronado is there. Teachers, administrators, parents, and volunteers give selflessly without recognition so others can thrive. Sure, no school is perfect. Coronado could use upgrades in technology; laptops, video and athletic equipment. However, as always, this school knows how to do more with less. Everyone pitches in. Coronado values its students; it values diversity, creativity, and its critical thinkers. Students that leave for high school return with smiles, and a welcome "thank you" to their former teachers. It's a great feeling. But it's all part of the Coronado Cougar way!

I have had two of my children attend Coronado Middle School grades 6-8. Will miss this WONDERFUL school! It used to have a mediocre review so I struggled trusting this school for my kids' education. Wow did Coronado ever prove the nay-sayers wrong!! My boys were on a highly challenging academic path with humanities (including social studies, reading, writing), mathematics, and Spanish. I get misty-eyed just thinking about their hardworking, amazing teachers who, because of their dedication and passion, made my boys excel and love learning! There aren't words to thank the staff and admin enough. Besides teaching staff, the office has always been helpful - even the health office was exceptionally staffed. Thank you, Coronado! From a grateful parent.

Our experience with Coronado school has been incredible. My family recently returned to Catalina after several years overseas, with our two sons, 8 and 7, speaking very little English, and the youngest physically handicapped. Coronado school has been instrumental in our getting through this period of transition, and who would believe that these two boys of our s actually look forward to going to school each morning, and are learning beyond our expectations. A special thanks to Gerry Maddock, the school s psychologist, Karenina Johnson, Mr. Gerad Ball, the school s principle, our two son s first and second grade teachers, Miss Coleman and Miss Ratliff, the medical group, and the ladies at the front desk. It s hard to imagine a more helpful and professional staff. Thanks, Coronado, we look forward to a great year!

This is my second year teaching at Coronado in the elementary side of this fabulous school. I have been so impressed with the community that has been created here! You walk on campus and see the care gone into making the grounds look beautiful. You see teachers, staff, students and parents all smiling and working together to make it FEEL GOOD to be here! Community means everything, and this school has it!!

Our family loves Coronado! The administration and staff truly care about my children and their success. They know my kids by name and take time to talk and listen to them. The teachers are dedicated and hardworking (I live near the school and often see their cars in the parking lot during weekends and holidays). They are positive, have high expectations and communicate with me as a parent. We have experienced all grades (K through 8) and I appreciate the efforts made by the teachers to give my children a good education. The PTO is active and works hard to create a fun family environment as well as raise money for needed technology or other improvements to the school. We have been at Coronado for 9 years and are very happy here.

I am a teacher at Coronado K-8 and am proud to work with such a dedicated staff and administration. Any child can thrive at Coronado with the many clubs, classes, and activities we offer. I can't think of another place where your child can be involved with Odyssey of the Mind, Chorus, Orchestra, Band, Common Core academics, sports, Mathcounts, martial arts, drama, and science trips to Grand Canyon and Catalina Island all under one roof. No other school in this area can offer all that in a top-notch public school. Both of my children went through Coronado and I could not be more pleased with their education and opportunities.

Coronado is a fabulous school! Not only does it balance feeds from a rural, incorporated area of our county, but it also feeds from a 'more affluent' suburb of NW Tucson/Oro Valley. The beauty is that you do not see these differences here. It is a central part of the community, involving and engaging parents and their families - a welcome environment where learning is a high priority. Learning isn't just about books, but experiences also - and several enrichment opportuntiies are provided, especially in the musical area. Reading the "one star" comment below, I find in amazement - sure, situations happen - but the focus is on the community, and I am actively involved as a parent, and do not see the environment described in that complaint. One person's incident is not a whole climate. Coronado is not just adequately preparing my child for a strong, well-rounded academic future - they are doing this in spades! When I speak with firends who's children have moved on to high school, I repeatedly hear that Coronado students are clearly identifyable by their readiness/preparation to continue the academic rigors that high school can offer.

Coronado is an amazing school! The teachers are wonderful and the grounds crews and janitorial staff do an incredible job. The campus is really nice and always very clean. Coronado has excellent opportunities for kids to excell in sports and our athletic teams are always among the best in the city. Coronado offers great elective courses such as physical education, spanish, technology, art, music, life skills, band, choir, etc... Coronado has a wonderful principal and assistant principals who bring out the best in its hard working teaching staff. Our AIMS scores are always very high and this is a very strong school academically. Students and parents love Coronado and you will too.

Unacceptable is the first word I will use to describe this subpar school. I see the students who review this school love the place, this is because they rule this place. The school is the much like a detention center for students who are well on their way to failure. They breed bullies here and the administration only slaps the on the wrists. I pulled my child out before the ink could dry on the registration form. Amphitheater should be ashamed of this school, a place where children at their most impressionable age are taught immorality, and hate. If your considering this school, think twice. I can't think of a single nice word to say about this place. If I could give it zero stars I would.

Coronado was the best school I'v ever attended I went to private Catholic school for elementary at Immaculate Heart and part of sixth grade at St. Elizabeth's but I hated it. The tuition was thousands of dollars but it sucked. When I came to Coronado I was three years behind in reading, two in science, 5 in math, and four in history. Now after one year of work at Coronado I am much happier, I am no longer bullied like at the private schools, I have A's and B's, I take Humanities Reading and American History. I also take lots of electives, Economics/Civics, Algabra II, Ecology. I am above grade level in all of my classes all thanks to Coronado. The teachers are great! They also give you so many learning options; you get to make your own schedule, and do things your way but still are monitored. You can go do what you want on breaks and lunch. At lunch you can eat outside in the front of the school, in the courtyard, the cafeteria, or if you need help from a teacher in their classroom so they can help you. You also on free time can hang out, go to the library to study, read, use the computer or anything else. The computer labs are also available for school projects or essays. COUGARS!

My sons have had wonderful experiences at Coronado K-8. Where else wrere they going to learn to play trumpet and trombone, be involved in multiple sports from track to basketball, take high school credit math classes, go to Disneyland with his fellow National Honor Society and Advanced Band classmates, be among the kids with the highest science scores in the district, be involved in Odessey of the Mind, and be challenged by all thier teachers, ALL UNDER ONE ROOF? The answer: No where! Coroando has it all. You want your kids to attend Coronado. I'm very thankful for what Coronado has to offer my kids.

I have had kids at Coronado K-8 school for the last 17 years, grades k-8. I have found the teachers to be excellent at all levels. I have also found the administrators to be excellent. In all areas I have found the staff at Coronado to be very involved and concerned about their students, proactive in working on problems, and innovative in the classrooms. I feel that Coronado has consistently grown and developed year by year.

I have three children at Coronado. We open enrolled our children in Coronado and make the drive from Oracle. My twins attended another school for Kindergarten. In that school, my twins did not have PE, art or music. They get to enjoy all three of these special classes. This is the second year for my twins to be at Coronado and my youngest is in Kindergarten. They look forward to coming to school everyday!

I really enjoy working here at Coronado. I came from a different state where I taught at a magnet school and the students were selected by lottery. There was always a waiting list to get in. When I joined the Coronado family I told myself that I would never find another school like that. I was wrong. I would put these Coronado students, parents, and teachers up against that magnet school any day. The teachers here are very dedicated to the students and the administration places the highest priority on the students by listening to and collaborating with students, parents and teachers. It is a great community to be in.

I have been enthusiastically teaching at Coronado K-8 School since the 1995-96 school year. I have taught both first and third grade. I live in the community of Catalina by choice and love where I live and teach. My classroom and the school are definitely my home away from home. My colleagues and I collaborate on all things school-related and are better teachers because of our shared sense of belonging and involvement. The teachers at Coronado work late into the evenings and on the weekends, both in their classrooms and at home, to ensure that our students receive the best education possible. The support staff and administrators do what is best for students too. I made a conscious decison to remain teaching at Coronado when nearby new Amphi school opened in the past. The parents of our students are caring and supportive. The students are eager to learn and happy to be at school. I love coming to work every day! I feel a sense of pride, knowing that I teach at Coronado. I imagine myself retiring from this school someday and then coming back to volunteer.

This school has excellent teachers, but a horrible new principal. Unfortuantely, since the principal-ship has changed, the teachers will too. I fear it will continue to go down-hill. Teachers are expected to make their classrooms feel like "Disney Land" instead of focusing academics and the state requirements for students. Teachers are also bullied, threatened, and treated like children by the principal. It is not a great place to work anymore.

September 22, 2010
This school's quality has fallen fast. The extra-curriculars were cut, there is an increased gang/vandalism presence, and the teachers are having their pay cut. The principal has lost control. I had to pull my kids out in favor of private school which is sad because it used to be a good school with quality teachers. There is no parent involvement and I think the principal likes it that way. The PTO disbanded in 2007.

Coronado K-8, like all other school has its ups and downs. I went to this school since kindergarden up until I was promoted from 8th grade. The school has a lot of good teachers and some are not that good. The advanced classes provided are for reading, social studies, writing, and math. Overall its a very good school. The fine arts program has taken a few hits seeing as we've only had a band and orchestra director no more than 2 years. I think that people are critisizing the directors more than the students themselves. Having helped with the bands its difficult to control the not so willing kids, of course Coronado has produced many great talents from fine arts to athletics. The school having been around for a while is closely knit and its a very comfortable place to go to school.

Coronado has a lot of good teachers, and some not so good. The music program has taken a drastic dive over the past year with a new less experienced band instructor. The principal has done a good job cleaning up the school from what it was a few years back and has a firm handle on discipline.

This school 'bullies' special education children to the point that their parents pull them out. Many special needs children that belong in this area have been forced to other schools. This school does not want special needs children and their constant excuse is 'we do not have the resources for these children.' My son went to kindergarten and the summer school program 4 year later. I do not recommend this school for special needs children - and it is a clear case of discrimination!

There are a number of excellent teachers in this school, but also some mediocre ones. Not all teachers on the honors track are good, forcing you to choose between good teacher or higher-level class. If your child is musically inclined, you may wish to go elsewhere: this school changed band teachers and the band program went from great to poor.

I went to this school over ten years ago and wanted to say to the comment from a parent that this school has always been safe, And never did any of the faculty threaten to put us in doc. We as kids never even thought about that place being there. And yes there are some (wide economic backgrounds) as he put it, meaning im sure there are some poor kids living close so there may be trouble. Not true, we all just want to better our selves. This school is safe, My little bro goes there and has done very well!!

Great teachers. Facilities are adequate considering the wide economic backgrounds of the neighboring homes. Bullying, improper behaviour, etc., is not tolerated. Because of its proximity to the correctional institution, it's receiced a bad rap, however because of this old negative perception, the newly hired principlal took the bull by the horns and increased hall monitors, security guards etc., to combat this negative perception along with low tolerance for innaprpriate behaviour. It is one of the safest environments that a parent could ask for. I would quickly recommend Coronado to anyone.

We had the best experience with this school for our two boys. Coronado has high academic standards, great teachers, and lots of parent involvement. The highest number and amount of parent volunteers that you will find anywhere. Also, the school has new great leadership that can handle anything. OK art program. General music program lacking due to instructor's low expectations & musicality. Loud and noisy lunchroom could be improved. Nice campus but some improvements to school grounds ie play structures should be made.
