Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I would like to say this school has been a welcome addition to our area. I have heard so many people talking and bragging about how well their children are doing which made me interested in checking it out. This year my child is doing great. He is enjoying all the teachers and has made some friends who are as academically driven as he is. Thank you to everyone who makes this school so great!

I am a former massa student and i loved it there. Massa is a an excellent school and more advanced than most schools. Massa helped me to be where I am at and now that im in high school i am more advanced than other students. Massa taught us discipline and to be respectful, responsible, and reliable. Also the teachers were great in helping me with what I needed nd didn't understand. I am very grateful that I went to Massa. - Karyme Colores and Jasmine Oldham

The staff are friendly and helpful and the school has an open door policy. They always get right back to you and resolve any matter in a quick manner. Curriculum is highly acceptable and the children do well with it. Parents seem to be fairly involved with volunteering and knowing what's going on with their children in the classroom. I will say however, currently there is 425 students and they are crammed in there. I wish there were more space for them in the classroom and outside to play.

We didn't know what we were going to do when my son finished the 5th grade at a public school. As I looked into Open Enrollment at TUSD I felt very anxious for him. We passed MASSA every week and knew one of the students attending, so we decided to take a tour of the school. It was the best decision we made! The Dean of Students gave a tour and answered all of our questions. The reviews I read online showed that this school took education seriously and was not just another charter school. My sons (3rd grade and 6th grade) are almost finish with their first year at MASSA and we couldn't be happier. Both boys have excellent teachers that are true professionals and education is their priority. The setting is small and the students receive additional attention. MASSA website is helpful and the teachers list homework assignments every afternoon. The teachers and administration staff have an open door policy and met with us when my son had difficulties with the material or anything else that came up. They support parent involvement and keep us in the loop. Bonus, the students get along and are enjoying their time as children.

I am so happy with MASSA, I've seen both my boys grow tremendously. I'm grateful that I was given the opportunity to enroll my boys and I'm excited to see my first grader doing so well after struggling so much at the other school. Mrs. Hunt and Mrs Rodriquez are amazing and make the school run smoothly.

This school is as great as ever, the faculty and staff is caring and always available. I have been with this school for two years and they have smoothed any bumps on the road that have come their way. I love that they are expanding to middle school with 7th grade this year because there are not many good school options on this side of town. Though at first nervous with the middle school on campus things are just as great and even better year after year. Thanks Mrs. Hunts and Mrs. Rodriquez for all your hard work! Parent Karla Aguilar

MASSA is a school worthy of recognition. From the annual Science fair to the everyday this school is concerned about its students. My son has been at MASSA for 3 years now and each year is better than the last. He actually enjoys school now, when before MASSA he did not. I offered to let him stay home a few weeks ago because he wasn't feel his best and he actually told me he wanted to go to school!!!! This school is very much needed on the Southside of town!

My son has gone to MASSA since day one. It is a wonderful school with a caring staff. It is not often that you find staff members in public schools that genuinely care about the success of their students. It is a pleasure to send my son to MASSA and he loves it too.

The staff is great. The teachers are young, energetic and caring. My child has been attending for 2 years. There was a problem with bullying, which was taken care of immediately when brought to the attention of the staff. We will be leaving the school at the end of the year because my child is going to full time GATE. Massa did its very best to accommodate our needs but we have stretched them beyond their capability. We will be sad to leave.

Math and writing standards in today's classroom's are becoming more and more clear cut and subjective. One can see why it can be a challenge to figure out exactly what you want your students to accomplish throughout the school year. Fortunately, my children were blessed with the opportunity to attend MASSA. This school goes above and beyond to make sure that my kids receive the proper instruction. MASSA excels in all levels and the staff and parent involvement is so strong. I feel at ease knowing my kids are taught to strive for their best. Erica Valenzuela..mother

This is our first year as a part of the MASSA family. My son struggles with ADHD and we are doing everything we can for him. I could not imagine being at any other school & having to work through this. The staff @ MASSA & his teacher are amazing! They have helped us, comforted us, & guided us along the path we are on. In addition to this the quality of education & the well-roundness of the curriculum are superb.

Teachers are excellent and they know how to get the best out of each student-very caring and enthusiastic. Principal's leadership is extraordinary. My kids couldn't wait to get out of the car every day and head in to school. It is a great feeling knowing that your child feels happy and secure all day.

I was recommended to MASSA from some members at my church. I must say that I am completely pleased with my decision to send my daughter to the Math and Science Success Academy. MASSA has been a positive experience from day 1. The communication between my daughter's teacher and I is outstanding. I feel as though we have a rapport that allows me to discuss anything with her regarding my daughter's learning. Furthermore, the staff is very attentive, compassionate, and caring.

this brand-new school has beautiful facilities. the ratio of staff to children is small, so the administration and other teachers can know many students individually. the atmosphere is happy and clean. this school has been so understanding of my child's needs. they are willing to let him work a grade level ahead in the subjects where he needs more challenge, and they work with him when his maturity still lags behind his academic skills a little. caring staff. i love the FREE MUSIC CLASSES, with instruments provided! if i had to think of one area of improvement, i would like some foreign language instruction. but, hey, MASSA is offering more benefits each year, so they will probably have this option available soon, also.

I'm very happy with this school because they have excellent academic level. They have a lot of activities after school. We have a lot of happyness to talk to the principal, teachers, and the secretary. I also like that they are whering uniforms and that they have alot of discipline. I also like it because the classes are small and the teacher pay more attention to the students. I would like that the school would have middle school and high school. So that the students can keep with the same system academe.

Before we moved to the USA finding a school was an issue (school in UK starts a year earlier). Pennsylvania turned out to be a disaster, our son, who could read, write and do math, was put into KG. We found a great parochial school where he excelled. The move to Tucson was as much a worry. We needn't have worried. He has been attending MASSA since its' inception. He loves school, We have never had to convince him to go. He enjoys the challenging curriculum. His teachers are very aware of the class and will advance the level as needed. His teacher is an excellent communicator, ensuring that we are always aware of the good and the bad. We have signed him up for next year and hope that MASSA follows its' sister school and adds grades up to 12th.

My son joined The Math and Science Success Academy in December 2008. As a parent, I have always valued my son's teachers and accredited much of his success as a student not only to him, but to the school environment as well. My son was delighted when he recieved an award from his teacher for his participation in class. As a former AmeriCorps member I have had the opportunity to help out at many schools. Our family believes that everyone must work together for our children to be successful. I enjoy contributing to the community and my son's school on a daily basis. I am always welcomed and accepted by MASSA as a parent volunteer. My son has always been a good student and I look forward to his ongoing academic success!

I am completely satisfied with how well teachers teach and how concerned they are with your child's education. They teach their math 1 grade ahead. I recently moved to Tucson from Pennsylvania and my 5th grader struggled since second grade in math. She said with the small class size and the way the teacher is willing to provide extra help if needed and teach them properly she is now getting straight 'A's' and that's includes 6th grade math. My second daughter started out in kindergarten but due to her knowledge from pre-school they promoted her to 1st grade and she is getting all 'A's' and 'B's' and she is doing 2ND GRADE MATH. They provide FREE after school tutoring from 3-3:30 pm. They also have an after school program from 3:30 to I believe 5 pm for only $150 a semester, hundreds less than you would pay a day-care or sitter.
