Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Williams Magnet My experience here at this school has been wonderful. Please never let negative minded people that feel like the world suppose to revolve around them stop you from letting your child/children attend this school. I have nothing bad to say about this school's support staff or it's principal since the change it has been better than ever so sad if you allow evil thoughts of people run you a way I have no respect of person or color of a person that rule my thoughts this is where choices come in I've had some trouble with teachers not all and the support staff is very firm now if you think your child is fault free then that explains why some complains. I wonder why didn't you send your child to the school where the principal you favor the most I am very shocked! if I am not pleased I make a silent exit on to better places or home school if there is nothing better. I've heard of some children making mean remarks to other kids now I know why a rule of thumb i teaches my children if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all parents need to practice this before the child can do it so sad and sorry for some unhappy people always be a help not a hinder

I see the comments on this site as accurate not hateful as the last commenter states. The classroom teachers overall are very good but several excellent teachers have left with the turnover in administration. The support staff and administrative staff are mediocre. Great Schools had this school rated as a 10/10 before the current administration and now has dropped it to an 8/10. That speaks for itself. It's a good school going in the wrong direction.

Do not be swayed by the hateful comments listed about our school and administration. Williams is still a wonderful school where the children are put first. My son has been at this school since first grade. Our school may not be perfect but what school is. Our scores remain in the top levels of the school district and the children are happy and excelling. Williams continues to be a great learning institution. We look forward to another wonderful year. We hope those leaving find what they are looking for and wish them well. Those of us who choose to remain will continue in the tradition of excellence the school has been known for.

We have loved Williams Magnet for years. LRSD made a principal change two years ago which has totally changed the atmosphere at the school. What was once a school that strived for the best has become a place where mediocrity reigns. Most of the teachers are great, but the administration and support staff is terrible. It saddens me to say that we are pulling our kids from what was once the best school in the LRSD.

I give it a five for everything except the principal. When the district decided to help the ill-performing schools in 2012 by changing the principals around, sending the poor performers to better schools and the bad performers to excellent schools, they punished Williams Magnet. I was excited about the high amounts of parental involvement at WMS. It seems to me that that is not a priority to the new principal... Maybe even to say that she frowns upon it to an extent. I think parental involvement makes a HUGE difference in a child's educational journey. We are considering changing schools for this reason. Sadly, shooting ourselves in the foot to an extent because we can currently walk my child to school in mere minutes.

Williams has many wonderful teachers. However, the district replaced the high performing principal in August 2012 with one from a poorly performing school. There has been a lot of staff turnover since then and the school is not the same. My two kids will be transferring to another school in the fall unless the district makes a change.

I have three children at Williams. We are extremely happy. For a school that is diverse, both economically and racially, to continue to perform at the top academically speaks volumes. Williams continues to rank among the top alongside schools from wealthier neighborhoods that are not racially balanced. This is due to having outstanding teachers, a community that promotes parental involvement and an environment that celebrates both diversity and excellence. Proud to call Williams home.

Fabulous school that focuses on truly teaching children how to be respected, confident, intelligent people. Teachers and staff are all very open, welcoming and willing to work with a parent to make sure school is a great experience for the child and parent.

We love Williams and feel very fortunate to be able to provide such a quality education for our children at a public school. We live in the Pulaski County School District but work downtown and love having our children nearby so we can have lunch with them and attend school events during the day. Williams has always been great for academics, and this year there are more fun, innovative programs that make it even better. Parents are very involved, and we have a whole new Williams family of kids and parents. New leadership has made a big difference.

Every school has their problems, but I was always able to discuss any problems openly with the teachers and administration. My moved my son in the 4th grade, but we came back in the 5th. Williams school is a great school and Mrs. Register is making it better. We love you.

This is our 4th year at Williams. It is a school environment that reminds me some of my grade school. Our teachers have been very proactive, helpful, and supportive in identifying learning challenges for my student. The staff is energized by a new principal (and some new staff members), great use of technology, and a positive learning environment. My child looks forward to going to school.

We are in our sixth and final year as part of the Williams family. This year, we welcomed a new Principal with a fresh vision for the school. I believe she will continue our schools vision of academic excellence for all students but in a more positive atmosphere. If you read older reviews or see a lower score on Principal Leadership on older Parent Reviews, please take this into consideration. All of the teachers we have had at Williams have been outstanding. My children's scores on the national benchmark have been extremely high and I feel like they have received a top-notch education at Williams.

We are just thrilled about William's Magnet! My child is in Kindergarten and is thriving and learning so much! She has also developed so much socially in this short time of being there. The teaching staff seems to be surperb and we are just blessed to be there. I understand that no school is perfect, but, Williams is one of the best in the city!!!

I think it is the best school in the world! All the students are very well behaved and have challenging activities which will build their self confidence for the future.

I am very disappointed on choosing to send my child to Williams. Like someone said in another review, I feel that if your child is in anyway, somewhat active or doesn't sit completed quiet and still at all times unless they are on the playground this is certainly not the school for you. I decided on Williams based on academics, but I feel that children are not given a chance to make the transition . I have a child in kindergarten there. The leadership is also lacking in this school. Children are not always perfect, but at Williams they need to realize that sometime leadership isn't either ( and that's on all levels at this school). Williams need to learn how to help a child where they are. I have failed my child in given him a start here and look forward to a brand new beginning.

My child went to Williams from kindergarden to fifth grade. We love Williams. As with any school, be it private or public. You being involved in your childs education plays a big part. No, not all of the teachers my daughter had were good, but when they saw that I was a concerned parent, it was different. The environment was great. The only bad thing about the school is they don't have 6th grade. I LOVE WILLIAMS MAGNET.

Awesome school! Involved parents, wonderful, caring teachers and para-professionals. Even the cafeteria ladies and the custodial team know, and are known to the students. If you are not involved in your child's homework, classwork, clubs, and your child's teachers and friends -- this school is not for you.

This school is the nicest school I've been to. Their behavior requirements have made me a better person. The afterschool activites have given me higher self esteem and my friends there have excelling behavior and great personalites. I do agree the aids do need to be more strict walking us down the hallway. Teachers say they can hear the kids with their doors closed. But, I used to be homeschooled and dependant on the teacher for help, but they teach you independance and prepare you for college, allthough some teachers (not all) need to be nicer.

I decided to send my child to this school based on academics only. However, I soon realized that a child will not do their best if a child is not happy and excited about the school. This school needs to allow children to be children. I fear for some of those kids self esteem. What good is being smart when your child is emotionally depressed with low esteem.

Although the parental involvement seems high (and I was very involved in my child's education), I did not enjoy our year there--and neither did my child. We will not be returning. The school was too large for my taste, had poor (and rude) supervision during recess, and didn't challenge the students academically. My child was in the first grade and had a caring teacher, but I think the quality of the education was lacking. My child is outgoing, intelligent and friendly --but never really felt happy being there--and she does love school. The staff aides were intimidating and non-personable and often talked inappropriately to the children. The playground was not very safe and I could go on but I won't. I'm not trying to speak for anyone but us we didn't care for the experience.

Williams has some good teachers, but the leadership is lacking. There is too much emphasis on AR tests. I also feel like my children have been given a lot of busy work as opposed to meaningful assignments. I would probably make a different choice if I could do it all over.

PTA at Williams Magnet is wonderful. They provide marvelous support to the students in many ways. Overall , Williams has many very caring teachers and is a above-average school. If your child is unfortunate enough to be assigned a teacher with questionable behavior, demand your child be moved to another teacher immediately. Please do not wait.
