Change is hard for everyone, even when it's positive. The new administration running this school is doing an amazing job. Increased academic standards, a stricter uniform policy and greater accountability of the High School students have had a positive impact. It's upset some parents and staff members, but you can't be the best without upsetting a few people.
This is my son's first year in Academics Plus Charter and we love it. He's not bored here as it is more challenging than his previous elementary school. His teacher is awesome and really cares. They are also getting a new elementary building which is promising.
This school has a lot of problems. It is not safe for children. They don t care about students; all they care about is sending students home when they wear off color pants. This school does not have too many good teachers or staff. They left. The Vice Principal criticized other teacher in the classroom to her students. I don t think my child need to be in that kind of environment.
This school has lost so many wonderful people in the past few years. The principal has run this school into the ground and completely neglected Special Education students. A nightmare and a lawsuit waiting to happen. Please spare your children this school.
I think that the Principal Leadership is 4 stars
A great atmosphere for learning. The teachers and children want to be there. The children want to do well, and are enjoying themselves at the same time. Quiet students are not looked as 'good' and 'having no trouble', paid attention to so not lost in the system. Respect for all factors highly. Very few problems with discipline. Leadership very involved and obvious.
My child learned quite a bit while at the school for a year. The buildings are run down though and that was the major negative. Also several of the best teachers have left
Come to this school! Troubles from the past still plague this school, but the effort recently made by students and parents to overcome the mess from the past administration show how important they feel this school is for their education. The education standards are high, a much needed change from other area schools. The environment is safe and promotes success, also a needed change. Come to this school!
Poor Management, Negative Press.
Academics plus is certainly not for everyone because the academic expectations are above the norm. My daughter has been a student here for the past 4 years and even though the school has had some administrative problems, which are now solved, she has always had great teachers. The opportunity to get a concurrent two year degree is awesome and the fact of a partnership with a state university for a 2 year scholarship to complete her degree makes this school head and shoulders above any other opportunity out there!
