I am a parent of three children that attend Jackson Elementary. Jackson is probably one of the worst schools I have ever known. There are a lot of teachers at the school who really are concerned with helping the children, but there seem to be more emphasis on punishment rather than learning. It is very hard for a child to learn and be motivated when every little thing calls for a paddling or suspension. The majority of the children who attend Jackson are from low income families, and I am sure that there are a lot more behavioral problems in the school just because of the area that it is in. It is in an area where children no doubt see and hear things that the average child should not. I know it is not the school's responsibility to raise the children but I do believe a little more emphasis on

Jackson is not challenging. There are no extracurricular activities. There is about 10% of participation from parents. The teachers and principal can only do so much. There are new computers and that is great. Private school is definitely a good choice.
