I went to this school forty nine years ago. I have great memories at this school. This school help me become the person I am today.
We are half way through our tenure at Otis and would definitively say that the school has exceeded all of our expectations. Our son has been fortunate in that each of his K-2 teachers have been an excellent "fit" for him. And after the first week, we are equally pleased with his 3rd grade teacher. We love the diversity, a strong and passionate school principal, the stunning amount of parent involvement and volunteerism, the many school traditions and events (ranging from Art a la Mode to Walkathon to Gingerbread House to Fall Carnival), and excellent school-parent communications (weekly e-newsletter and principal-parent-student assembly). Our neighborhood school has given us the opportunity to meet and befriend so many of our neighbors -- a true community resource.
Otis has a great school community, with a lot of volunteer spirit, and great traditions and events.
Otis has an amazing principal and a wonderful parent community, and many wonderful caring teachers. A few are tired and need to retire, and sometimes the approach to education is very traditional, and not terribly inspiring to kids, but that's probably true almost everywhere today in our test-driven system. We feel very lucky to be part of the diversity and great education at Otis. My son is in first grade and has learned an amazing amount here, and overall we are very happy.
Otis is a diverse school that benefits from a unique blend of excellent teachers working together with committed parents. When these children leave Otis for middle school, they leave as strong, capable students ready to take on the next challenge.
Otis is just okay!!! The teacher my daughter has this year is so terrible. Most of the parents feel the same way, and we have complained to the principal and he does nothing about it. He always side with her. I have talk to other parents that had her before, and they said to run she is a nightmare.
The instructional staff is top rate. My childs has flourished beyond what can be expected from a public school system.
We have been at Otis school for 3 years and we love it. We have a great PTA and lots of parent envolement or support. We have a school garden, music and art programs as well as other fun activites through the year. The school is very diverse and embraces the culture diversity at the school. The principle has been well liked and invested in the school. However, for the next school year (2006) a new principle is joining Otis. He comes highly recommended and is from an existing Alameda school.
We are incredibly pleased with this school. Otis often gets overshadowed by 'showier' Edison, but we have been delighted with our daughter's experience there. Her teacher for both first and second grade has shown tremendous interest in the children's social and academic growth. We have also been very pleased with the sense of community of the parents - moms and dads both. I would definitely recommend Otis.
Otis school has been a great experience for me and my wife as well as my kids. Parent involvement has been a key for the success of our school and teachers getting to know the students and their needs has help them thrive in class.
