Horicon Elementary School

As a former teacher at Horicon I know that the faculty and staff are dedicated to delivering a quality education to each student. It is difficult to meet each student's needs in a 'rural, remote' school. NCLB dictates that we have 'Highly Qualified Teachers'. My experience at Horicon was that the teacher's were better. They were highly dedicated and motivated to teach a diverse population that crossed most socio-economic boundaries. They do an exceptional job with limited resources. I second the statement that they are a creative and caring, loving 'family'. Now retired, I regard my years at Horicon as some of the best in 35 years of teaching and administrating in K-12 & Adult education. Kudos to Beverly and the staff!

School is in a very, very rural area of Northern California. K-8; 1 Kindergartern teacher, 4 elementary teahcers. Each teacher has two grades in the classroom. Only a few parents actively volunteer School is affluent - funded totally through property taxes on property values that have skyrocketed. Nevertheless, rural nature of school allows little room for extracuricular activites. Music class held once a week for an hour, formal art classes do not exist. An extremely limited GATE program is adequatley managed. School does go out of its way to accomadate the smart students through end of year testing and 'out of grade' placements for subjects in which student excells.
