BES is a safe, nurturing, enriching school for children in Brisbane. Lifeskills are stressed and practical applications taught. our son has been at BES for 5 years.

Brisbane Elementary School is fabulous in many ways. It's a warm, friendly, safe environment for children. The building is beautiful. It's well maintained and charming in ways that new schools aren't. There is a library, art and music classes and after school care. The principal is very involved and accessible. Teacher quality varies from excellent to not. The fatal flaw in this school is academics. Reform math and a strong constructivist pedagogy have resulted in poor performance on standardized tests and students that aren't prepared for middle school. It is the classic outcome of constructivist pedagogy: the children have positive feelings for subjects but are not good at them. If constructivism and reform math are your cup of tea, this school is for you. If you are seeking rigorous academics and the possibility of a career in science or mathematics for your child, stay away.

This is my son's first year at BES and I can't say enough about this school. These teachers really care about their students. My son's teacher even did a home visit to better bond with the 'family'. The principal is out mingling with students and teachers alike every morning and knows many of us by name. Parental invovlement is also great here. Parents regularly volunteer in the class room, fund-raisers and even just watching the kids during their breaks. My son went to a private school for 3 years and I have to say the educational standards at BES is stellar compared to the private school. My first grader does book reports, spelling tests and math games each week. I highly recommend this school to anyone looking into good quality public schools.

Brisbane Elementary School is an Excellent school. This is my sons third year at the school, and I am pleased with all that the school has to offer. The teachers, administration, and art/music programs are top notch. The school has just recently set up an after school tutoring program, (Team Learning Center:TLC)where students get free homework and individual tutoring help in areas of need from actual teachers. The principal knows practically all of the parents and holds monthly morning coffee gatherings to obtain parent feedback and actually applies a lot of the suggestions and feedback. I'm also impressed with the high level of parent involvement through the PTO group. Parents are encouraged to get involved at all levels, i.e. volunteering in the classroom, field trips, fundraising, gardening etc. The school has just recently been renovated to be handicapped accessible, with new wiring, new flooring and new brighly painted classrooms.

The Level of parent involvement in BES is very good & I was pleased with that. But the problem is that Brisbane does not have any text books. All homework is done on worksheets. Kids aren't taught to take good notes since they do not have a text book to reference in case theres any questions later. The basic how to write a good paragraph and good writing is non existant. BES has some good teachers but I believe without text books and a good solid foundation kids aren't challenged.

Brisbane Elementary offers a wonderful and safe environment for children. The town of Brisbane is a small tight nit community that not only provides a child to have an identity, but also makes it easy for parents to be involved in school activities.

I moved to Brisbane 3 years ago and feel like I stumbled onto a 'gem of a school.' Parent involvement is very visible and welcomed and the school district is small enough so that each child is known by the principal and their needs are addressed by caring teachers. The ITI (integrated thematic instruction) approach to teaching allows the teaching staff to customize their classroom curriculum based on their desire to cover the State standards and weave in their own particular vision for the year.....and the school building is a lovely classic style from the 1930's that is well-maintained. The only thing missing is updated landscaping surrounding the building and outdoor play areas to tie the school into its beautiful natural surroundings.
