Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My oldest daughter graduated from CAMS in 1996. Her class was the third graduating class since the school opened. Every student graduated with some type of high honors and everyone went to a great university. I don't remember anyone going to a junior college. My daughter went and graduated from Loyola Marymount University. The school may have changed since she went but I'm considering putiing my youngest daughter into the school. I hope it hasn't changed too much. I rated everything based on when my oldest daughter attended the school.

A lot of students don't like this school. A lot of students do. I think it depends on the type of person you are. Some students found the school easy and some found it hard. If you go here, you should definitely take only what you can handle. There are a number of extra curricular activities do do at CAMS, but everyone is different. Some can handle more than others. This school will definitely prepare you for any university. My biggest advice to anyone coming here would be too only do what you can handle. There's a thing as doing too much. Also CAMS will bring down the GPA of most people, and most people will probably end up going to a lower ranked university than they would've if they'd gone to another high school.

I am a substitute teacher with Long Beach Unified and I have to say that CAMS is the best school I have had the pleasure of working at. There are no fences, perfect attendance, and the students have a sincere willingness to learn. The work that they are required to complete will ensure their success at whatever they choose to do after high school. The teachers there are thoroughly committed to providing every student with a high quality education. I am hoping that I may gain a position as a teacher at this school and that my son will attend high school at CAMS.

My son is going to be a senior this fall. Rigid course of study for students and prepares them for College. PTL for giving my son the opportunity to go to this school.

CAMS is a unique emphasis on the new and real world of technological advances of this new age. It is a school only for the dedicated teen eager to establish a dynamic footprint on this fast pace planet. Weak heartedand lazy need not apply

I go to CAMS and I hate it. Teenagers aren't allowed to be teenagers. It is not a real high school, there are no drugs ( well maybe a little bit), no fights, no nothing. The teacher walks out of the class and everyone stays exactly the same. I hate it because everyone is so incredibly GOOD. We are teenagers and we should be allowed to have fun, but CAMS is so boring, and there are a lot of very weird people.

CAMS is an amazing school. My son is a sophomore and loves his school. It's a wonderful place where students are exposed to great engineering and science learning experiences, cutting edge equipment and brilliant and engaged teachers. Can't say enough about CAMS.

Hi, I'm a current junior of CAMS. Go class of 2010 Ninjas! Anyways, I would recommend this school to anyone that wants to be something regardless in the field of math and science, our specality. CAMS is rather difficult, nights are long, homework is tedious, but CAMS students (cohortians) are very friendly. Personally, I still don't know what I want to pursue but CAMS has opened my mind to think about my future now instead of the later stages of my life which would probably be too late. CAMS is the happiest school on earth. Everytime I go to school, I feel like I'm going to an educational Disneyland. CAMS is not only for math nerds and Einstein scientists, it's for students that want to be ahead of others...

My son is a freshman at CAMS. I really praise the Lord for allowing him to go to this school. All his life my son went to a christian school and he had to make a lot of adjustments once he entered his freshman year at CAMS. CAMS is a great school. It prepares students for college. My husband and I couldn't have chosen a better school for our son.

This school is great but if you are looking forward to play football here, you're in for a huge disappointment. There is B-Ball, tennis, volleyball, and cross country though. I had a 4.0 coming from my middle school and I just finished 9th grade here. I feel very ill prepared for this school honestly. This school is very difficult;long nights, loads of reading, and tests (especially spanish) made me go crazy. If you are looking to just make a easy 4.0 then you are going to have to work your butt off. I had a 3.6 first semester and 3.4 this semester. Dont procrastinate here whatever you do, I made that mistake. This school DOES have a lot of support and has high recognition/high-academics in California. Even though I dont dig this school much, it is a great school. I like the nice people their too. The teachers are very-cool!

I am so glad that my daughter chose to enroll in CAMS. I see a successful career in the future for her since this school really helps her to prepare for college. She is a junior now and has college units. The school gives a solid background of academics. CAMS staff from the principal, teachers and coaches are the best. Academics and sports go hand in hand at CAMS. More power.

This school is a wonderful school, but the only thing is that you are on a campus with a bunch of 20 year olds and over. So you have to be very mature. At this school you have a social life, but not a lot. You need to have a fun, exciting, and still have a life for your high school years because it is your last years to enjoy being a kid. At cams you will not be a kid.

I'm a freshman, and this school is quite wonderful. I learn a lot every single day, and the students there are intelligent and motivated to learn. The school itself is very clean, and allows juniors and seniors to take college classes. I am glad I came to this school!

CAMS is an exceptional school. If a student is ok with the lack of school sponsored sports and extracurriculars, the payoff could be tremendous when it comes to overall life chances and getting a head start for college. The school is rigoous and not for those students who still are maybe finding their way or their education is mainly geared by their parents. Students who truly believe in themselves and abilities as a student will be most likely to flourish here as the social environment is very centered around academic performance more so than what I would considering other high school environments to focus on. Overall, in Southern California, the diversity of this school mixed with the performance of alumns and college admissions rate, you get your bang for your buck. The teachers are fabolous, the opportunities amazing, its just the right type of school for a small niche of students

CAMS offers the best public school academic environment that one can hope for. it is demanding, challenging, rigorous and a great precursor for future college courses. The IMP math program and fixed curriculums entertain and foster excellent academic knowledge and exploration. The parents are generally supportive in fostering a positive, academic environment. Unfortunately, since the school is so academically focused and extremely rigorous in its college preparatory clases (unlike other high schools, homework will take up most of your social life at CAMS), the school offers limited sports, but the opportunity for students to establish afterschool clubs and extracurricular activities. Fortunately, the payoff is wonderful! CAMS students graduate and attend prestigious universities unlike any other public institution due to its excellent preparation and great academic reputation across the country!

As a former CAMS (california academy of mathematics and science) I can atest to the fact that CAMS is like no other school. There is such a camraderie with each class where competition to be the best is non existent. Everyone loves to learn, disussing about academic topics during lunch or staying in school because the IDP group is so enamored with their topic that they stay after hours. The teachers at CAMS motivate their students to learn. The teachers treat their students like peers by engaging them with facinating material and by making sure that everyone understands about the material. I have never been to a place where the teachers care about the wellbeing of their students until I was enrolled at CAMS. CAMS provides an open safe enviroment where everyone strives to learn. CAMS provides the necessary tools where students not only succeed academically but also in life.

Although there are some problems with students cheating and procrastinating (what school doesn't have those problems), this is a great school that truly cares about the success of its students. The students are well-informed about applying for college, applying for financial aid, and when the SAT exams are. Because of its small community, the students, faculty, and staff get to know each other by name.

My son, a national merit scholarship finalist, went to school here for four years and benefited greatly from his experience, though it was not all positive. The academic teachers were supportive and student focused, and a great help to our student. Drs. Clark and Filer, principal and vice principal, are beaureaucratically minded and apt to condemn a student's actions without adequate investigation. Despite some misunderstandings, my son was able to explore higher levels of calculus and earn a semester's worth of college credit through his core classes and those taken at the co-located CSCLB. There are no sports facilities to speak of, but this was not a major concern.

Excellent academic program, but would like to have seen more emphasis placed on the science side of things. Very safe environment. Mainly asian student body. There's a great deal of homework and teacher involvement. Lots of group projects. They don't offer a wide range of college level courses the students can take in their senior year - college classes offered are primarily classes that would transfer to a UC school, which doesn't help students who want to attend college out of state much. Their math program is excellent.

The California Academy of Mathematics and Science (CAMS) provided my children with an academic foundation that prepared them for post high school work at a very demanding college. CAMS also exposed my daughters to other activites that prepared them for work with other people with regard to their background. We, as parents, were very pleased with CAMS during the time that our daughters attended CAMS. We attribute a major part of their overall success at the college level to their experiences at CAMS.

All I could say about CAMS, is it is a school where one could give their best because it has an environment that is pleasing for learning and the teachers are great motivators. Students have lots of flexibilities to learn.
