This school truly is very diverse and has some really wonderful and caring teachers. I was a student here who took mostly AP Classes and a few regular classes for requirements that don't offer AP (Spanish, PE, etc.). ALL but 1 of my teachers were really caring about the student and their lives. HOWEVER, just because they cared about the student didn't mean they were good teachers. One math teacher I had for an AP class was very caring about the students and would help run after school math tutoring classes and led some clubs. But when I had her as a teacher, she taught on the 1st day of class and then maybe once a month later and then a couple of days the week before the AP test. Homework was assign about 2x and reading was never assigned. Our daily activities included us doing work for other classes, listening to music or sleeping while she chatted on the phone about her personal problems. Most of us got A's in the class but only 1 person passed the AP test. There are a few more teachers I can go on about (including 1 that changed the grades of a few of his favorite students who were also athletes in his sport, from D's/C's to A's when they didn't deserve it) but I'm out of space.
This has got to be one of the best schools I have seen. The curriculum and standards of this school are very high and most of the students go to good or decent colleges. The teachers are friendly and generally care about their student's welfare and education. There are many academic and extracurricular choices for your child to choose from; no doubt they will fit in right away.
I am currently a freshman student attending Gahr High School. I feel that the school has an extremely friendly atmosphere. On the first day of school, I felt a little unsure of what to expect from the school since you are not notified of who your teachers are until that morning. However, the teachers are very nice and will answer any questions you have to ask. Often, I would see the principal (Mrs. Zietlow) walking around during snack or lunch and would say hello. She would kindly reply by saying "Hello, how are you?". I also believe that the parents are very involved in the school. This school has a very involved PTSA which leads to great fieldtrips. Many of my teachers have told me that Gahr is the most diverse school in the district because of all of the different languages that the students speak on campus. I think that a school similar to Gahr would be Cerritos High School. I am very happy about this school and recommend it to anyone that wants to live their four years of high school in a friendly and academic enviornment.
i would like to know the graduating rate and acceptance of uc for John F. Kennedy in La Palma and Sunny Hill, Fullerton CA
I find that not all of the teachers use ABI to report their students classwork.
The Principal is not very friendly and she has refused on more than one occasion to take a direct phone cal from me and other parents. She uses her secretary and ask questions back and forth which I feel is totally ridiculous. If she has the time to talk to her secretary about my question while I hold on the phone, then it seems it would be more professional if she would take the time to speak to a me/parents directly, even if she has to call back at a later time. The principal is a very educated adult and she should be ashamed of herself for not being more approachable with the parents that support the school she is in charge of.
It is a great school. It is filled with a lot of school spirit.
im in this school as a freshman and i love this school!
Very diverse school, you'll find what you want at Gahr. The only reason that people might give this school a bad rating is because of the deep split between AP/honors classes and the regular CP classes. The AP/honors classes are VERY good and have hardworking teachers, while the CP classes and teachers are not really into the students and teaching the material. We have sent 2 students to Harvard in the past 2 years, also, so that says something about our school
The school is greaaaatttt! Very very diverse. At the school you see multiraces of staff, students, and teachers working and caring together. AP and honors Course selections are plenty and students are well helped. The facilities may need improvement but the School is excellent a distinguished school I may add.
