Citrus Elementary School has strong principal leadership, excellent teachers and staff and many volunteers. A local Church has adopted Citrus so there is a big presence of loving volunteers. The children are thriving in this environment. The ongoing goal is to continue to build a community of parents and neighbors to assist in educating our children.
Citrus is a very nurturing school. The teachers go above and beyond the classroom experience. It has been a tough year with the classroom sizes having more students than in the past years but the teachers have appeared to have risen to the challenge. The only problem appears to be lack of parent help in the classroom.
I'm sure this school would improve if parents were more involved. From what I've seen there is only a few parents who volunteer. It seems that the teachers have no back up.
The principal at this school should be a prison warden not an elementary school principal. She is excessively harsh with the students. The volunteer staff such as the lunch hour volunteers, two in particular, are constantly yelling at the students and treating them like inmates. My son's grades have suffered since attending Citrus Elementary. I feel that this school is more focused on teaching just at the state standard. I am very disappointed with this school and would advise anybody to put their child elswhere.
I feel that the new principal, she was there last year, has changed and is trying to make the school almost military like, not letting children voice themselves. I have to say I love the teacher they are great and really care about teir students. I just wish that the principal was more fair with all the children. I have one daughter at the school and the reason that she is there is because of the teachers and how much they care. We do need a lot more parent help.
Amazing program for english learners. Music and Fine Arts. Parent involvement is small but very helpful and apriciated. There is a brand new Principal this year so I am going to rate last Year.
The teachers and administrators at Citrus are committed to providing a quality education. One 2nd grade teacher worked with my child before school to improve lagging reading skills. Her efforts helped identify a learning disability that was impairing learning how to read. The 6th grade teachers are EXCELENT. They work as a team to teach the skills students need to be successful in Junior High. One weakness of the school is the lack of broad parent involvement. Those parents that are involved do a great job but the school would benefit from a broader base of parent involvement. More involvement from parents would also improve some of the minor safety and discipline issues at the school.
