He had projects and nightly work. It kept him busy, but not too much that all the work was done at home.

They do not tolerate bullying or any form of harassment among students. This is a huge change from public school.

This school is fantastic! My son had a bulleying problem at the public middle school. He had some anxiety about a new school and they were great! They focus on individual learning so the kids can go at their own pace. (Faster or slower) my son has excelled in academics, and he is far above his grade level now. Highly recommended for any type of student.

I could not disagree more with the poor reviews! This school is fantastic and there is a very special dynamic between the students and teachers. My son had serious challenges before coming here and the staff have been exceptional at helping him feel accepted, loved, and capable! If you are looking for a great school, disregard the grumpy parents. You'll love it here!

Teacher effectiveness: Somewhat effective

No teacher can succeed in this environment. The good ones leave because the pay is bad, which is what happens when you recruit your teaching staff via Craigslist ads and refuse to use a professional service.

I'm neutral on this question. Because while my inclination is to answer "no", the truth is that any student who can succeed in this environment must have developed persistence, grit, and determination. In all seriousness, I have watched stellar students get beaten down to the point of not wanting to go to school because of the environment on campus.

For the reasons already listed in previous questions, I do not. The administration does not handle issues consistently or with forethought to the well being of the students.

Older kids regularly pick on the younger kids and nothing is done about it. The administrator's son runs wild and bullies the teaching staff.

The son of the head administrator is given free reign to push around the teaching staff. Discipline is inconsistent. Administration sets a bad example for the students by badmouthing former students in public forums.

Started off well, but myself and many of the original parents have pulled our kids out of this school. And all of the parents who have done that have watched their kids thrive. A professional administrator needs to be hired, as the current administration is not professional, even stooping to directly insulting the children who have left the school in public forums, such as PTO meetings. The teachers do their best with the hand their dealt, but when parents pay $250 at the start of the year in supplies fees and the teachers are told that each kid can only have two pencils for the year, there's a problem. I recommend the teaching staff, but for their sake I hope someone professional comes along to give them a better chance at success. Until then, this school will continue sliding downhill. Oh, and they're lying about the services they offer at the school on this page. Foreign language hasn't been instituted in this entire school year. The music program flexes in and out depending on the administration's moods. Avoid.

My daughter started attending West Pioneer Academy two years ago. She started in their preschool, and has since transfered over to the Elementary side. She is a young kindergartener, and since the start of the school year her skill set has improved in soo many ways. At 5 years old, she can read, write, count, add, subtract, and more. She is currently doing 1st grade work. WPA exceeding my husband and my expectations. We LOVE this school, and are so thankful to all of the teachers and administrators!!!

My child in the 1st/2nd classroom and it is amazing! It is so nice to see that there are several different groupings within each subject. At our old school every child was in the same curriculum for every subject and this led to boredom and behavior problems. I volunteer in the classroom and am always impressed by the classroom management. It is obvious that working with so many groups takes a lot of preparation and as a result, my child is now a full grade level ahead. The foundational skills that they are teaching at WPA are going to prepare my child for a bright future!

I currently have 3 of my children enrolled at West Pioneer Academy, a preschooler, a kindergartener and a 7th grader. I can't say how impressed I am at the level of education all 3 of them are receiving! They all love attending school each and every day and it makes it so much easier to know that my children are having fun while they learn, which is more than I can say for the traditional public schools. The teachers are always going above and beyond to accommodate my children's learning needs and communicate my children's progress on a regular basis. My 7th grader had attended a public school last year and was an advanced learner...she was forced to learn at the level of all the other students in her class. At West Pioneer Academy she is able to learn at her fullest potential!! I am so pleased with everything this school has offered to my children and look forward to them attending for years to come!

This school started out well when they had just a few kids at inception - however they seem to have really gone down hill in the last year. The communication is spotty and rude, my son is in a class where one underpaid and overworked teacher is expected to teach 4 levels of students - there is just too much going on in the class. Also, I was very rudely informed by the administrator of this school that the after-school teachers are not to be expected to contact me if something serious and or dangerous happens with my son, because they don't have the bandwidth. This is unacceptable to me.

My daughter has been going to WPA since it opened. I am continually impressed with the quality of education she receives. Whether it was explaining a venn diagram in Kindgarten or doing multiplication concepts in first grade, she is always given new and exciting things to learn. WPA has small classes which really allows the teachers to spend more time with kids and specialize the curriculum for all learners. I would highly recommend West Pioneer Academy.

My daughter has only been at West Pioneer Academy for a month now and I know this is the school for us. We recently made the switch from another private school because this school offers individual learning so every child can learn without being behind in a subject or kept from going ahead. My daughter had an active IEP for her speech since she was in pre-k. Now being in second grade she still needs a little one on one and this school can provide that to her and all their students because of their small class sizes.

If you are looking for more than public education for your child, take a look at West Pioneer Academy (WPA). My son has attended WPA since it opened in June 2012 and we are very pleased with the quality of his education in 3rd and now 4th grade. WPA offers small classes, great teachers, before and after school care, organic gardening, a horse on campus, art class, music class, and optional music lessons and it s all onsite! Ms. Lesley keeps my son challenged in the classroom and keeps things interesting on top of it. How many other 4th grade kids get to dissect a squid? Check out their website, call for a tour, and find out how reasonable the rates can be for private school!

My son has attended West Pioneer Academy since it opened. The teachers are AWESOME and so encouraging! Mrs. Soto is so sweet and she always takes time to make sure that her students are learning, enjoying what they are doing and providing multiple opportunities to assist her students. My son was very behind in math coming into West Pioneer and in a short amount of time she brought him right back up to speed! If you're looking for a great school that fosters quality academics and will encourage your child, West Pioneer is DEFINATELY the place to be! I can't say enough good about this school! Mr. B. the music teacher totally ROCKS and the horse arena, garden, and grounds are all part of the charm that this school offers! I'm so grateful to have my son at West Pioneer. Finally a school that exhibits everything we were looking for and more!

Profile Completeness

BASIC

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
