Teachers here are AWESOME!! They truly care about our kids. I have 3 kids one in high school now and 2 that attend John Adams. All 3 got great grades. All 3 scored high on the STAR test. In fact one of my kids score a 100%. Love our John Adams family!!!

I attended this school in the early 80's - decades ago! However the memories I have of this school were fantastic. I myself was an english learner (althought i was born and raised in california) however my parents did not speak english so i had to learn english in school. John Adams teachers were fantastic, I learned english perfectly and they sparked that interest for me in education which eventually led me to a UC university and graduate school. John Adams was definately the foundation for my education. I do not have kids now but I will not hesitate to send them there. Several of my friends have their children there and LOVE IT! Thank you John Adams for the education and the memories.

This is the best school. The staff works well together. Our interest is not just to the children in our own room our interest is all children at our school. Our test scores for a Title One school keeps rising. Our school collaborates, mainstreams, and works as a team having the special ed students work closer with their peers in general ed.

My daughter attended school there last year and the beginning of this year. The staff is really great and very helpful in the areas my daughter was struggling in. I wanted to cry when I came out to see the award assemblies...all those happy little faces for a job well done. Hats off to the staff.

My son attended John Adams but with all the english learners I pulled him out. I feared that he wouldn't get the proper attention and his learning would be slowed. He now attends a new school with more english speaking students.

I attended John Adams Elememtary and I thought it was a great school to attend. The staff helps you with any of your problems and the PTA raised money for the school to go on excellent field trips. John Adams is a good school to attend your child in.

I am very proud to have my child attending John Adams. The school has great caring teachers and principals. I am a PTA member myself and we all put great effort into everything we do. We are not fortunate to have many members; just 5; some members work full time. We dedicate many hours each week. We are volunteers that want to help the children; parents that are quick to judge need to realize that we are also helping their children; its sad that someone not even involved in helping the PTA would want to post negative things about their school. My name is Lisa and I am the president of John Adams PTA. Yes, it would have been nice if we could have done more programs for the students and their parents in 2004-2005. We made sure we had great programs come to the school that the kids would love. Please, remember that the PTA is here to raise money for programs, field trips, books and many other things that the state does not pay for. Thank you, to everyone that did help and is happy with everything that the PTA had done.

John Adams is a terrific school with fantastic students, a great staff, hardworking and caring teachers, two wonderful and supportive principals, and one dedicated PTA! The women on the PTA board deserve a standing ovation. The John Adams PTA knows that it's about the children and have proved it by using the funds that their loyal parents gave and the PTA was able to be a huge sponsor for the new AR reading program as well as a major contributor for the 'Music Man' and 'Masters of the Art.' Also PTA is putting on a Bingo Family Night and a few other programs for the children. Thank you parents for all your genuine support.

John Adams offers programs such as Possa (an afterschool program for high risk students). The PTA spends thousands each year in programs for the students. Parent involvement at this school is limited as a result of many children having parents who both work. So, the PTA has only 5 members. Most PTA's have many more. As a member myself, I would have to comment that anyone who feels that the PTA is not performing to task -should actually volunteer to help instead of criticizing good people who work very hard. This is very sad. Personal comments aside, the PTA benefits include an in-classroom Music Program, Spirit Fridays, an Art Program and an Accelerated Reading Program. Bingo, Fundraisers and Book Fairs happen because parents volunteer, not criticize.

It is very sad to see such a lack of parent participation and lack of family involved activities at this school. The PTA is not very involved with the parents. It always seems that there is too much animosity between the PTA, the Principle, the Teachers, and the Parents.

My daughter attended John Adams K thru 3rd grade. The teachers she had were great, but the school principal in 2003 / 2004 didn't have much interest in what parents had to say or interest in improving the school playgrounds. We have since then moved our daughter to another school, but hope that the new principal there at John Adams is doing a better job.

Not a whole lot of parent participation. Staff changes dramatically over the past few years. A lot of kids are bused in from other areas. Also a high percentage of English learners.

About the tests


In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.
