Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Although a LOT depends on the child & the particular teacher for each grade level, the overall impact of the school is spectacular. In general, the teachers are extremely responsive & very loving to children. They set the bar reasonably high academically and the students respond to that!! In addition, the Principal, Mr. Woo, is a good combination of warmth & discipline. The office staff is extremely caring. The school can become an extended family for the children if parents are able to participate in the numerous activities that are organized especially keeping in mind the working parents.

5th grade teachers are worst than any other teachers in this area. Lack of quality teaching and too much home work. Their 5th grade teachers are rude and lack discipline. Principal is totally helpless in controlling the rude behavior of 5th grade teachers. Principal tries to show off too much discipline for students but lacks to implement same for his own teachers. Totally ineffective principal.

If your kid is below average than this school cannot turn them around. Most of these students that do well come from familes with higher academic standards than other local public school districts. The students and parents together put in the effort and 20% is from the staff. The housing price is very high and rent is high. There is a higher percentage of the same type that come to this school and that is responsible for the higher API than other public school districts. I am glad I can let others realize it before spending all that money on a house or renting one.

Truly disappointing school, most of the teachers are cold and use embarrassment as a tool to discipline kids. I've seen teachers scream at kids in front of other parents, the Principal doesn't do anything and has a major attitude problem, he has unnecessary rules in school. The kids are overloaded with homework. The Principal will not take any suggestions and is not flexible enough to listen to parents. The teaching style is one size fits all approach, but if your child needs any individual approach, that kid will go through immense pressure and torture rules in school.

This is a good school with great academics if that's what your priority is. The teachers and principal are dedicated. Because there is very little ethnic diversity here this may not be the best choice for every family and may not meet the social needs of all children. There are other alternatives in Cupertino.

OK, This School might be good for parents who wants their kids to be pushed to the limit and have the child dread going to the school, There is no overall development for the kids. Common This is Just Elementary School,Do Not Over Push your kids they might burn out before middle or high school. And By the way I am an asian parent :-)

This is the best school. I have seen my child developing the best personality traits here. Mr. Wu is the best principal I have ever seen. He is totally dedicated and a great role model. I feel lucky that my child as well as me as a parent had an opportunity to be under his leadership. The teachers are wonderful too and my child loves to go to school every single day.

First of all, the principal and staff are so enthusiastic. They are always trying to find new and creative ways to teach the children. The kids are well rounded and enjoy being at school. It's a great school to have your children in.

I think that teachers and staff work well together. Parent involvement is growing. PTA sponsors great programs like Destination Imagination and Reflections. The kids are receiving a well-rounded education, including art, music and physical education.

This school has the right balance of academics and enrichment. There are after school enrichment programs like Chess, Spelling Bee, Destination Imagination and Garden Club. The PE and Music sessions are loved by the kids. The 4th graders do an awesome musical presentation of the Gold Rush period in history while the 5th graders re-enact the American revolution with costumes and sets of that period. There are science trips too. My kids love to be in this school !!

This school only cares about turning out little machines. They do not foster imagination. My child's teacher does not teach art because she say's that she cannot do art. This is a horrible example to my child. My child also regularly has 3 hours of homework, that he has not been told how to do. The hard work of the parents is what keeps this school going.

If it were not for the extreme amount of help I give at home I do not know if my child would be learning anything. When I volunteer, my child's teacher seems to spend most of her day dealing with discipline problems and not teaching.

We have been pleasantly surprised by this school. The academics and physical ed is well balanced, and the amount of homework is very age appropriate. The pricipal is always around campus, and teachers are encouraging to the kids. We love this school.

This school provides fairly good academics. Students are bright and parents are involved, so scores are high. Like most schools in the district, we are underfunded and everything in Silicon Valley is expensive so my son does not have resources schools in other parts of the country take for granted like a full-time nurse, music instructor, and gifted coordinator. This means it's harder to take care of the whole child. Nevertheless, the school does OK.

We moved from a Private school to Collins. It had been a great school in providing all round development and building balanced individuals. One improvement teachers could focus and help the children is to build leadership and team qualities by promoting group interactions, presentation and team sports.

This school has been a very big disappointment to us. Inadequate supervision on the playground. Principal sets the tone for an utter lack of leadership and teacher support. The students might maintain good STAR scores, but my opinion is that it comes more from parental effort(and very high academic expectation)than that of the school. You have a population of kids who are pressured by their parents to perform and this stress might account for some of the bullying that my child was subjected to on a daily basis. Requests for assistance with this issue went unaddressed. Frankly, anyone who wants to move to Cuppertino based on glowing (realtor) reports of outstanding schools would fair better in a another less expensive area where they would be better served by a private school.

An ordinary average school which you might think of when you hear a good school with good score. The teachers are nice and work hard. My child so much adores one of the nicest among them. He likes the caring principle, too. Their music class is just wonderful. The PTA offer some before/after school clubs for their enrichment. My child belongs to their running club which succeeded in nurturing joy of exercise in my child, making him healthier, happier, and more self-confident. One thing I don't like of the school is lack of consistent supervision. As is often the case of public schools, some children are very mean, and they pick on weaker children during recess time, when their teachers are not there with them. Yard duty teachers don't know the children as well as their room teachers do, and the room teachers have to judge only by what they hear.

This schools has the best mix of great teachers, students & active parents. Teachers are good in Maths & English . Homeworks, academic activities, academic field trips are very good. Unlike Faria & Portal, Collins has the right mix of asians & whites, giving an opportunity to kids to mix & learn from each other. Their weekly music, art, sports programs and the teachers are good. Kids really love these programs. Starting from Principal to teachers, everybody encourages parents involvment. Lot of parents are involved in PTA, class level activities, in the field trips, lunch time, school traffic control & several other activities. One thing I do want to mention is that I think both the principal(Ms. Barret) & the teachers should put put some extra efforts making the current academic programs more effective to increase Collins API level. I would really love to see school API to be between 990 - 1000.

This was my first year at Collins Elementary. I am extremely satisfied with the overall quality of the school. The teachers work hard to bring out the best in each child. And my child loves to go to school. My child is an English language learner an I have been impressed by the vocabulary increase he achieved in a year. The principal is a great leader and is well respected both by children, parents and staff. Parents are encouraged to participate to school activities and find a very collaborative environment to foster new activites (e.g. Collins Clubs) to further complement the children experience.
