Greatschools.org is a wonderful place to post a review about a school. I love checking out reviews myself. I know, however, when I am investigating even something as trivial as a new restaurant, to take each review with a grain of salt. It seems that most people who post a review either love or hate the business they re reviewing. (Like the earlier poster who pointed out our bi-modal reviews.) Few people feel compelled to comment when they simply have a satisfying and fulfilling experience. It s the extremes that give folks the urge to post, especially on a site that protects their anonymity. It s regrettable that the parent who posted on May 2 is feeling dissatisfied and unheard. We want everyone to have a fantastic experience at our school. We re proud of it, and want to share it. We realize that Quarry Lane isn t for everyone, and families have other choices. We are, however, just the right stuff for our 850 families who continue to re-enroll year after year. Plus, we ve gotten great accolades recently from Bay Area Parent Magazine readers who voted our Middle and High Schools the Best in the East Bay. This magazine has a readership of over 130,000 in the East Bay and almost 8,000 ballots were completed for the Beast of Bay Edition. Please visit our website at www.quarrylane.org and visit the news feed that has an updated list of where our students have been accepted to college, a great measure of success. Feel free to contact me any time for any questions you have about reviews, good and bad. Casey Johnston, Director of Admissions, The Quarry Lane School, cjohnston@quarrylane.org.

This school is entirely focussed on the bottom line and the children suffer. My child was there for one LONG year and it was horrible. Thankfully we have moved her to another private school and are thrilled with how we are treated. Please look at all private schools before considering putting your child at Quarry Lane. I did not do my homework and my child suffered due to this.

This school is more concerned about getting your money than anything else. If you are still considering the school, I would highly advise you to review the curriculum and ask very specific questions. You'll find out that the computers are not used as often as you may think and only used for a short time. Ask your child specfically what she learns in a specific class. She may not be able to tell you because it's not much.

My children have attended Quarry Lane for the last three years. As a parent I am thrilled with the level of attention my children receive. The link from school to home allows my family to be an active part of the school community.

Unfortunately the schools seems to be imploding with morale and financial problems. There are several quality teachers and strong parents. Consider public schools before committing to this situation.

This is not a good environment for children. The playground is like a jail and not very safe. They don't let the lower school children play on the fields for recesses or in the gym on rainy days. The teachers care about their students but are handcuffed from doing what is best for the students. There is very poor communication from the school administration. There is no sense of community or attempt at creating one with a mere one social event at the beginning of the year. Parent Association is useless and focuses on the primary school needs rather than the elementary age. If you are considering going to Quarry Lane, look long and hard and talk to as many parents as you can and not school given ones, if possible. Look at their newsletters and weekly communication for the year - they tell the story.

I couldn't be happier with the education my two children are receiving at The Quarry Lane School. The faculty have incredible expertise and PASSION! They know these students and work to engage each one individually. My children have blossomed as students and individual since attending Quarry Lane. They love to learn! I couldn't be happier with our decision to pull my oldest from the over-crowded public schools and invest in their future at Quarry Lane, where the administration, faculty and staff are as committed to my children's success as we are.

The owner seems only to be concerned with your monthly fee. The newest director is inexperienced and not able to solve complex issues. There are much better schools, public and private, available.

School rules are not followed. Bullies are allowed to stay in school past the 3 strikes rule. School very money oriented and new Pleasanton Director ineffective in handling job.

I have both an elementary and middle school student at QLS. I pulled both of them 6 years ago from the Danville public school system due to lack of challenge and overall desire to teach my children to be the best they can be. QLS has been such a fantastic experience. The teachers are of superior quality in background and commitment. They are willing to allow students to reach their highest level on an individual basis. They are caring and give personal attention to each student having 15 in a classroom. The money I have spent to educate my children was well worth it. They are both in excellent position for high school and college.

My pre- k son loves the school and the teachers are fantasctic handling the kids in an effective manner. For the people who say that the school is inferior to the public schools in the Danville area -they obviously never attended them. As a graduate of the Danville public school system I found their public school inferior to Quarry Lane. I would put my son at Quarry Lane no matter where we lived.

Poor leadership results in high teacher turnover. School rules are rarely enforced.

For K-5th, the education quality can measure up, but after that, the high teacher turnover doesn't invite much positive momemtum for a school.

My child attended The Quarry Lane School from K-5 and we found the education to be adequate and equal to public school. Parent involvement is high yet it feels like you are making up for the lack of basics. Today, many of the students are those that just don't fit in the public schools. Save your money, get a better total experience for your child - go to the public schools in The Quarry Lane School area.

Energetic, overly-qualified, intelligent and caring teachers. Responsive administration. Highly involved parents. Expanding, state-of-the-art facilities.

Our son is in the pre-k program. Been very happy with the school. He had a tough time adjusting to going to school for the 1st time and they were very understanding and sensative to him. His writing skills have improved dramatically over the 1st 2 months and he just loves going to school. His teachers are great and he has been exposed to many different areas (music, art, computers, sign language, spanish, science, etc.

Quarry Lane is an excellent school. We have four children (3 went through Public School) and our last is in Quarry Lane in Dublin. He went to public school for k-3 and was very bored, though he was in the gifted program. He is now challenged and he loves learning.

Fantastic school! With current pressure on parents to be sure to give their child the best advantage in life, Quarry Lane School has assured that my child will be ready for kindergarten. Academic program, that allowed my child to develop at his own pace and fostered the social and emotional development. Great school!

Overall quality of academic programs is average to public schools and in some areas considerably inferior. A very limited music program is available, but again less than public elementry schools in the area. Art is available and is at an average level. Parent participation is very high and one of the strong points of the school. Library is small and limited. Computers are available but are few and under utilized. Teacher turn over is high and indicates a severe lack of leadership and lack of true interest in the students. Revenue is the MOST important issue to the owner and administration. Bottom line... your child can receive an equal if not superior education from public schools in the Pleasanton and Danville area. The cost is in excess of $10,000 per year - one tip, Quarry Lane is in great need of students, so negoiate very strongly with the owner!

QLS has the most committed teachers. The school offers personal attention to your child - and really crafts an educational plan that is particular to your child. If you want to make one decision about where to send your child from infancy to high school, this is the right place.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
