This school has a very biased idea of who is eligible and worthy of advanced academic preparedness. There have been students that have demonstrated that they have what it takes to study at higher levels but have been demoted or kept back because they are socioeconomically disadvantaged. They teachers rather single out these students as "behaviorally dissociative" rather than except the fact that they are academically bored. The teacher do not want to communicate with the parents and work on academic plans.
The principal, Mrs. Hayes, is a real asset to this school. She is a 'doer' and gets things done! The teachers are excellent and care about the kids. This year's PTA is the really good. It is well organized and a positive part of this school. Our test scores keep rising at an amazing rate!
Speech & Language therapist is more outstanding then words can say! Resource specialist is absolutely awesome. I would highly recommend this for any child needing these services. Regular Ed teachers have been great, they are very accomodating and truly accept ALL the children!
I have to say that last year was far better than this year. Mrs Von Minden is a great teacher at this school . the Principal Mrs Hayes is getting this school on track , But it is a slow process. the worse part about this school is A. The P.T.A It is unorganized there is no unity and who is in charge any ways Ive.been a active
I was very happy with the school and the teaching staff.
Not the best school for promoting original thinking. Principal does not follow through with teacher issues. Upper grades behind in curriculum required at testing. Misspelled words on one teachers bulletin boards... all year!
I think that my child has excelled here at Madison. I am very involved in the classroom so that might be a big factor. We do not have any special music, art, etc.. classes for the kids, which I wish we did. Parent involvement is limited, most parents work and/or don't think they need to help. I do see some kids struggle and the teachers do try to pick up the slack. Most of the struggling kids do not turn in homework or have any kind of help at home. I guess the parents think it is the schools responsibility to do everything for the kids. The only other big problem I see is that we are the only school that is not completely fenced in. That problem needs to be addressed ASAP!
This is a decent public school. My daughter is in her second year and I am a regular volunteer. I am dissappointed in the states budget cuts that cause poor teacher student ratios. I feel that the teachers are overworked and our children suffer. The overall supervision of the children is average. The staff itself is contained with very nice and caring teachers. The principal is very nice and does seem to have a geniune concern for the children. However I do feel that it is over croweded with too many troubled children.
When it comes to safety, I don't think that the office staff takes proper precautions. When I went to pick up my daughter from school, they didn't check my ID. The office Secretary, did not know me as I have never seen her before. This is very alarming to me. The teachers are awesome. They always keep the parents involved. Love 'em!
