Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Very Provincial. We have two children that attend Flora Vista and the experience so far hasn't met our standards. what has troubled us the most is that we are regularly reminded how insular the community tends to be. It's a 'fall in line' culture at Flora Vista that tends to promote a very singular vision. If you desire a more progressive education for your children that embraces different cultures and perspectives I would steer clear of FV. Teacher quality has been hit or miss for us, but I should note that there are some excellent teachers at the school. Parental involvement is extraordinarily high which is both an asset and liability to the school. There are loads of activities for the children and plenty of helping hands, but the level of gossiping and cattiness amongst the moms and some of the faculty is astonishing...a problem that really needs to be addressed. Overall, If we had the choice to make again we would have looked more closely at other alternatives for our kids.

My child was treated very poorly by a teacher and the principal. One amazing teacher, one nightmare teacher. Principal used as a threat circa 1950. Appalled, disappointed, flabbergasted!!! These people went into child education??? Where does the 10 rating come from? Very uptight group of parents. If you want cookie cutter and judgemental, his is your go-to. Enjoy. Thrilled to be leaving.

My daughter is finishing up her first year in Kindergarden and we are very happy with the quality of her education. She has excelled in reading and her self confidence is off the charts. We are so happy we chose Flora Vista as our school of choice!

Kids use to go here and loved it. Considering going back. Good school overall, with above average teachers and staff. Great location. However, it does have some decent cons. The 2 principals I have known were mostly CEO types in the background. My kids didn't even know their names. Also, the school held onto a long despised office staff member who had received numerous complaints. Picking up and dropping off by car in the one way parking lot is a nightmare. Best to walk. Kids cannot be dropped off unsupervised before 7:50am which can be a hassle for working parents.

Outstanding staff, caring parent volunteers, & test results. Can't ask for more than the small town feel of this academically proven school.

I had three children who attended Flora Vista and all three thrived during their FV years and as a result of their elementary school experience. Flora Vista provides seven years of a solid, educational foundation in a nurturing, encouraging, student-centered and parent-friendly environment. Private schools in this area will NOT prepare your child for future academic success better that Flora Vista. Former FV students have gone on to excel at many of the nation's top colleges including Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, UPenn, Duke, Cal, UCLA, Georgetown and USC. Another huge plus for Flora Vista is the neighborhood. It's not in a area where houses are being built left and right so there aren't eight to ten kindergarten/primary grade classes. No grade level has more than three classes and the average 'graduating' class of 6th graders averages between 80 and 85 students which is a very 'knowable' number!

Flora Vista is an excellent school. Always has been. The former Principal knew most of all 500 kids personally - that says something absolutey wonderful. The teachers are highly accomplished, care very deeply about their student. There is a very strong parent community as well. The new Principal is very personable, highly motivated and extremely accomplished. Everybody at Flora Vista should be very proud and feel very lucky.

We were not happy and left!! We are now happy. Very weak teaching staff with exception to the lower grades. Most of the teachers hate their jobs.

The principal only care about money, very little about children. The teachers gang up against you when you raise a question.

Flora Vista is a 'community' school. The neighborhood has a small town feel and all the children are within walking distance from school. With a wonderful neighborhood, top scores, hard working teachers, and awesome volunteers, we feel blessed to be here!

Flora Vista is an outstanding school with great kids, great parents, and a wonderful staff. I am a parent of two children that attend Flora Vista currently, and I was also a student of FV way back when. Between the closeness in the community, and the schools high achievements, you couldn't ask for a better school!

Most of the day, week and year was spent in artsy-craftsy projects, but little learning went on. The classroom was usually in pandemoneum. The teacher also threw out her political views, which were very liberal, and inappropriate.
