Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

MY Daughter attends this school and the staff there is awful they do not greet you or deal with your child's issues or bulling situations well at all they do not inform the parents of any issues there child is having at school and if your child tells you they tell them not to tell there parents what a way to deal with a small child and then we wonder why are children a committing suicide due to school bulling because the schools do nothing and then they tell your children not to tell you as well this is not the first time i have had this problem with this school it's the forth

This school should be better. They do not have a focus. The scores are terrible, and they do not work on curriculum. Most of the children in my immediate neighborhood attend other schools. The parents have rented in other areas and donated money/time to the other schools just to ensure their child's enrollment. In addition, the principal treats people with disrespect and has even lied to district officials when approached about a specific issue. The best part of the school is the before and after school program, Soaring Eagles. Micah is kind and fair. The kids are happy and get homework help when needed. I wish this school was better.

My child started kindergarten this year but at a different school. We live across the street from this school so I see what goes on. I decided a long time ago that there was no way I was sending my kid here. Yes it would have been convenient but I see how the teachers yell at the kids during recess. No way.

We have been going to this school for almost 7 years between my 2 kids. We have never had a problem there. Most of the teachers are really wonderful and caring. Sure there are a couple that could be changed but out of 24 i would said 22 are really good teachers. So far no complaints, sure parents could get a little more involved but i think we are getting back on track there and this year should be wonderful.

This school was a horrible experience for my son. The teachers that are bad are REALLY BAD. I have moved him to a school where the learning is much more enriching beyond worksheets and teaching to a test. Was the best move we ever did. He is at a school he doesn't want to leave versus being at a school that terrified him between the teachers and the bullies.

The school looks cute when you drive by but it is such a disappointment. People keep pulling their kids out. It just gets a little worse every year. Communication is lacking. There are good and bad teachers like any school. The office staff is not always nice. The principal gets a 2. The soaring eagles is just okay nothing more. My kids say they have not been bullied but they talk about it seeing it all the time. The charter didn't make anything better. We're just waiting to see if we'll win a lottery so we can get out like everyone else.

I'm a parent who lives in the neighborhood, and went to this school as a child. My child has been there 2 years. The after school care program Soaring Eagles is Excellent! The people that run it truly care about the kids and I feel my daughter is safe there and very well taken care of. The Principal really cares about the school and is always involved with all aspects of the school even after hours. I realize that dealing with the LAUSD is frustrating, and although both teachers my child has had at have been excellent, I have a concern with the participation levels of the teaching staff. At our recent Harvest Festival, I was disappointed to see that only 6 of the 24 teachers at the school were at the event! I believe this is in part to VERY low parental participation at the school. The few parents that have taken an active role in the school are left feeling frustrated and overworked. It is slowly improving, but can be much better. If teachers see the parents passion for their kids education then perhaps they will join the teachers who are already going that extra mile. Without a firm commitment from parents and teachers, no school will prosper - it s a symboitic relationship!

My grandchild goes to this school and she loves it! The Soaring Eagles is the BEST after school program I've seen around. They are very caring people. So far everyone at the school has been very supportive and knowledgeable. The principal communicates very well on all the needed information.

We enrolled our son in the kindergarten class at the beginning of the school year. It has been great so far. Our son loves it there. The food program has been excellent and the cafeteria lady very helpful. His teacher is very nice and he loves her. The after school program, Soaring Eagles, is really awesome and the guy that runs it seems to care a lot for the kids. We love the community feel in the morning when we all line up on the school yard before class. We love that time of the day because we get to meet the other parents and get a feel for our son's class mates and who he is hanging out with. Over all it has been a very good experience for our family so far. We live in the neighborhood and are grateful to have such a safe environment for our son to learn and grow.

I'm not sure why there are so many negatives reviews. My son just entered this school being in the first grade. I know "several" that have had/have their kids here. It is a wonderful and SAFE school! My son's teacher is awesome and challenges my son and works extremely well with his needs. The office staff is very helpful, along with the principal. They put effort and really care about their school and their NO BULLYING. They sons teacher make a big effort on teaching empathy and communication. She really works with parents and does what she can and reaches out of her own pocket considering LAUSD budget cuts. The school as well. The PTA works their behinds off no matter what. If anything changes I will be sure to revise, but as of right now from my own personal experience and about a half a dozen others, Emelita is the BEST!! And they also just became a charter school =).....go Emelita!!!!!!

This school is just okay. It's not terrible and it's not great. The problem is the test scores keep going down. The PTA borders on insane, but there are some good teachers here that do good work with the kids.

It's a very average school. The teachers and staff don't seem to care. It's really disorganized. Who ever wrote the last glowing review must be a staff member. It is not the worst place ever but it is nothing to brag about.

BEST SCHOOL EVER!!!!! This school has excellent teachers and staff members. They help my child with his work, personalities, and are there to help anyone with anything. The principal is a very strong person and is not afraid to speak her mind. She helps the school function and does much of the behind-the-scenes work. The academics at Emelita are fabulous. They challenge my child and make sure he always has some kind of hard work to do. It will help my child in his future. THANK YOU EMELITA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have a choice go somewhere else, anywhere else. The place is depressing. The teachers teach to the test and they can't even get that right because the scores have seriously dropped. The few good teachers are afraid to speak up and the principal is always hiding in her office. There are no extras for the kids like other schools. You can join the pta but it looks like the school doesn't want the parents involved. They seem to be trying and they do a few things here and there. They used to do all kinds of fun stuff in the past but rumor is the lady gave up. The teachers dont want to do anything extra to make things better, I guess its only about a paycheck to them. There is no pride in their work. The school is a total mess and it shows! It makes me sad and a little afraid everyday I have to drop my kid off at this place. It shouldn't be that way, school should be good and safe place.

This school is horrible, careless with our children and documents from them, the people working in the front office are rude and do not give explanations when you come with a complaint or question ... not even able to say good morning and let alone a smile from them personally every time I go I have met rude people, with bad attitude always .. if they treat us rudely to us as adults ... how do they treat our children?. Also my child has been changed teachers three times in four months and I don't think that is good for the child nor the parents.

PI school and it shows. Unsatisfied with some negative staff attitudes and lack of parent/teacher connections. I have four children and this has been the worst Elementary yet. My child is unhappy with being mistreated by the teacher only to have the Principal to act as if my child is WRONG about the teacher's ways of behaving. This kind of humiliation leads to poor self esteem and lower academic success! Our taxes pay for this??

The principal cares about the students at this school. The teacher quality is top rate/high where there is technology in the classroom. The CST scores for our subgroups were 965 and 918 respectively. BTW, that rates up near the best of the schools. And the kids are happy here. If you are looking for a good community neighborhood school for your child to thrive at and if you care about your child's well being -- then get involved at school to make it great where ever you go. The world does not need any more complainers -- get the facts and do your homework. For most schools look at the sub-groups, talk to the staff, and make up your own mind on what's real. This school is a hidden gem as mentioned previously. This school is for folks looking for a great education in a nice community in a good neighborhood area for their children. The parents who are involved in school go all out to make this a great experience for their children, for ALL children at the entire school site, inclusive of the parents in the classrooms, parents on the councils and parents running and participating in the PTA and booster club. PS the ratings have been manipulated on this site. This is a good school.

This school was once a great school. It still has great potential. It is tucked in a safe residential area of Encino, with many of it's students living in the surrounding homes. There are a handful of wonderful caring teachers who love their jobs. Unfortunately, the schools Principal seems to be interested in running a business not a school. She is concerned with the school loosing money but she is not concerned with the actual quality of education or classroom environment being offered to the students. She directs the children like soldiers and lacks respect for the parents. She mismanaged the class sizes this year and has left students without a stable classroom, being run by substitute teachers who are clueless how to teach and the children have no routine or schedule. The parents have no reassurance that there will be any resolution for these matters. It is just so sad that a great school in an upscale area, with so many willing and involved parents has gone downhill so quickly. Many parents have pulled their children out. Sadly, I do not see this changing anytime soon, so I would not recommend Emelita.

My children have thrived at Emelita. The teachers do a great job and I've found our principal to be very supportive. It's a small, safe school and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to parents looking for an elementary school. The smile on my child's face at the end of each day says it all. He loves his school and his teachers.

I am very sad that this school is not the same it was when my children started there 5 yrs ago. I have seen so many changes. It so saddens me that this schools moral is so low now. It went from a huge sense of community to a no sense of community.. It events are not the same as they used to be, They no longer allow children to wear costumes on halloween and have a parade at the end of the day the all the students look forward to. It is very sad. If I was to have to enroll my child at this school now I would say run and go else where......

I love this school. The teachers do what they can to give the students what they need. Thank goodness for their PTA. They are so involved in creating programs for our kids and always coming up with lots of fun things for the school. My kids are happy there, and that is what is most important.

We love Emelita! It's a small school where the teachers, staff and principal really care about the kids! And since it's a smaller school, you don't get lost in the shuffle like at many of the neighboring schools. The PTA is very active in fundraising and in providing the school with additional resources and equipment not provided by the district. Emelita is a hidden gem!

The teachers and admin staff and assistants are wonderful, energetic and caring. Special Needs students are mainstreamed and welcomed into the general ed population. Decency and courtesy and responsibility are stressed. These values are lacking in our society and the next generation needs these lessons.

This is our second year at this school. I'm trying to like it, but there's a very strict overall feeling. I think the principal promotes this negative 'strict' feeling. The PTA is actively working to make the school a better place, and doing a good job! I have hope! The teachers are fabulous and most of the staff is too. This school would be great with different leadership.

This is our 2nd year at Emelita. We are happy with our teacher, but very disappointed with leadership at the school. There is a tone of impatience and condescension from both the principal and some of the staff. If a problem arises, we have been met with alot of finger pointing and no responsibility or action from the principal. There is not enough competent supervision for students during breaks. The children are expected to fit into little molds rather than be individuals. My child does not feel comfortable asking for help or explanation because the staff is so abrupt. The PTA at Emelita seems to try hard and has already shown improvement from last year. They do need to work on informing parents about accomplisments and needs, because not everyone can attend meetings. The parents of Emelita are wonderful.

I have been a parent at Emelita Elementary for over 3 years. It is a great local school. Over this last school year there has been great improvements in many areas such as leadership, parent involvement, and programs focused on keeping gifted students. The schools academic scores continue to grow and there is focus on improving the school both in the immediate future and long term. Emelita is a nice place to be and provides a good learning environment for the children. Parent involvement appears to be on the rise and that is making a huge differnce. The principal has also demonstrated her 'open door' policy and this has allowed to make parents feel to be a bigger part of the school. The key is that this continues and hopefully parent involvement continues to grow.

My two boys attended Emelita School this past year. As we are new commers from another country the children did not speak a word in english and needless to say were hesitant about what was their school year will look like. As I look back , now that the year is about to end, I see two smiling boys who love to go to school, who feel confident and who are managing their academics - in english... The staff including the principle are helpfull, supporting and professional. the school's environment is plesent and warm. The children in Emelita are accepting, polite , friendly and sweet- in my mind it is in great part a result of the commitment and respect that the adults teach and demonstrate to the children.

The school has a nice neighborly feel, however I wish there was more parent involvement, both financially and physically -just being present to help volunteer or attend the PTA meetings. Communication could also be improved b/w the school and the parents re: upcoming projects or fundraisers. It seems we get notice of things not always in a prompt manner.
