My son has Selective Mutism and had difficulty speaking in public, including to his teachers. Before he was diagnosed, the teachers did a WONDERFUL job at trying to make it easier for him to cope and going out of their way help him. The staff, incl. the admin, worked with his therapist on how to deal with his situation and now, he has even participated in a spelling bee in his classroom, reads aloud and is as noisy as the others when out on the playground. Thank you Charter teachers and administrators for being so accommodating in helping my son get past this hurdle.

Beware if your child needs special education as the administration would prefer your child to go elsewhere. Although they are required by state and federal laws to provide services, they would prefer your chld to attend another school in the district. There ratings may be higher then their counterparts in Escondido but at whose expense. Be very careful about the school choice you make for your kids.

The teachers at Heritage are dedicated professionals who are easy to communicate with. Our children are challenged every day and enjoy going to school. Both of our children's grandmothers are elementary teachers, and they continue to be amazed by the high standards and extent of the education our children have received.

I just wanted to point out to anyone reading these reviews that while some of the older posts are correct, there was a lot of teacher turnover and the admin was weak, that has all changed. As I type this there is a new Director and all of those old issues have stopped. Teachers are happy and there is great communications with Admin/Staff and parents. They have a very strong, passionate teaching staff that does an incredible job. This IS the elementary school in North County to send your kids to if you can get them in.

Heritage is an absolute gem, in a forest of horrifically bad schools in Escondido. We lucked out last year in getting my daughter in on the first try. Her grades shot straight up from being down in the basement. And her desire to go to school and participate is a blessing. My son did not make it last year, but just got a call yesterday that he will be joining them this year. The staff and teachers at Heritage are great and keep parents well informed. The kids are kept challenged and engaged. Better still is the sense of family and parental participation to help the school succeed. I could not think of any better environment for my kids education that Heritage. Well worth the lottery wait.

I have found Heritage to be an excellent school. We were very lucky to get in - as has been stated that it is a lottery. Our child has had a speech delay and we were concerned that he may not be able to keep up. Far exceeded what we thought was possible. The K teachers have been the best. They have done more for our child than the speech therapists have in 3 years!!! Taught us not to underestimate what they can learn in 1 year!

my son went to a great elementary school in the area and lucked out in the lotto draw and was accepted in 6th grade. I was very nervous about him going somewhere new, but he loves it. He has really adjusted well, I am very grateful to his teacher and the elementary principle, she was easy to talk to and seemed to really listen to me when I met her.

This school is the best around and that is why there is a long waiting list to get in by lottery. The education is traditional and back to basics. The kids have to keep up with homework and school work. There is no slacking off. Tardiness is not tolerated. We are so happy to be a part of this school
