I attended Del Campo, and like many say, it has a strong focus on its sports rather than its other extra-currics. However, the teachers were all great, very kind, and most were seriously dedicated to teaching every student with the same intensity. It's a school that allows a good degree of freedom, but all that means is that if a child makes a mistake (and I made some in my attendance there) it doesn't mean the end of their lives or their career. The staff and teachers understand that a student does not equal his mistakes and care about them as individuals. Due to state budget cuts, a lot of the programs are suffering, but that doesn't make the staff there any less amazing than they already are. It may not be a rich school funded by millionaire parents who are extremely supportive of the school, but it is a school of independent students who learn to be self-supportive and discover what's important with the help of the teachers and their peers. I'm on my way to be a Biology Teacher myself, and I can only hope that I can meet and hopefully exceed the standards that I experienced at Del Campo High School.

My son just graduated from Del Campo as an Honor Student from Honors and AP classes. However, he has stated and I agree that Del Campo has really gone down in the last 2 years. Dress code is not adhered to, rules are made to be broken is the attitude. Students who flunk classes or do something to keep them from walking the stage at graduation get to anyway because the District says so. So, students are taught that rules don't matter and have no respect for staff! With the exception of 3-4 teachers, the rest in Honors and AP classes were better taught, had better instructors, and I'm grateful he didn't have to be in many regular classes as the classes are unruly, and the teachers don't care. Del Campo is slipping. Students need to learn respect for rules that are inforced, and teachers & staff that inforce them.

My son spent his freshman year at a different school within the district but came to Del Campo for his sophomore year and he loves it. The teachers communicate with the parents and the parent participation is great.

Del Campo high school may have some new staff that have yet to adjust, and with the highest mortality rate in the county it can be frightening to new students as well. The overal quality however is 1st class; Common givin teachers not only understand the students, but, also help them to learn. With encouraging lectures and equal respect, for a rare occassion students have bonded with teachers. This causes much higher test scores, much higher student participation, and a much higher air given to the school. I give Del Campo 5 stars as not only a seasoned student, but, also as a properly informed citizen.

DC is one of the SJUSD favorites for open enrollment. They have a strong booster club and really focus on athletics-perhaps to the detriment of academics for some of the jocks. The block program allows students to take more classes in their allotted four years, however, the drawback is that some students having difficulty with certain core subjects get behind the'power curve' and simply cannot catch up. I know of some students who had difficulty with advanced math classes, put much pressure upon them. DC has a reputation for being a 'social' environment, jocks are quite popular. Nice campus in a nice neighborhood but not known for having a diverse student body.
