While this school may have high academic scores (mostly from the high Asian student population that is very driven to get high grades), the atmosphere is bad. F.V. high is the drug-capital of the county. I heard this from an official source, and saw a lot of evidence of this. I did not like most of the teachers (although there were a few exceptions). Although the school's issues are common-place w/high schools, this school leads the pack. After subjecting a couple of my kids to this school , we fled the school & the state. My youngest 2 kids now enjoy a school w/higher morals & values. Parents-it's NOT just about academics!!!

On the surface, this school offers a great deal--lots of activities and high API. But in it's core, it cares little for the individual. While there ARE some very caring and remarkable teachers, most are insensitive, robotic people who have been using the same lesson plan for years and cannot be bothered to reach out to a struggling student no matter how much potential he/she may have. The high API is the mostly result of very driven parents who push their kids to unhealthy competitive tendencies and dangerous stress...and has very little to do with the staff.

I transferred over to FVHS and love it so far! So much school spirit, involvement, everyone is friendly, and great campus. Overall, best school experience I have ever had. AMAZING SCHOOL!! <3

I am currently attending FVHS and I am having an amazing experience. Fountain Valley High School was the best choice I could make for a high school that was around my area. There are so many activities, clubs, AP classes and sports. Basically, getting involved at school is not difficult at all. Most of the teachers are very amiable, easy to approach and care for the students. I haven't had any problems with my teachers. As for the atmosphere and students, it is pretty average, since it IS a high school. Overall, I love FVHS and I wouldn't go anywhere else. (:

I'm currently a student here at FVHS, and I absolutely love it! There are so many opportunities for everyone. There is a wide selection of classes, AP courses, extracurriculars, sports, and clubs. Our ASB and BBN (Film & Production class) bring so much pride and spirit to our school, and our spirit weeks always have a lot of participation. The teachers here actually care about their students, and the coaches provide great encouragement. I'm an AP student and an athlete, and I'm definitely proud to call myself a Baron.

I currently attend FV, and I think it offers a lot of opportunities for the students. There are various courses/classes available to students that enable them to explore and learn about new things. There are also many AP classes available to those who wish to to take them and a lot of fun extracurricular activities, such as sports, the BBN, yearbook, clubs, etc. We are also very fortunate enough to take part in what we call 'Edison Week' each year, which is extremely fun. Furthermore, our ASB does a great job in doing the school assemblies and encouraging us to participate in things like Hurley's Walk The Walk Fashion show - which we won. FV also does extremely well with testing and had a 854 in the API scores (2008).

My son graduated last year and my daughter attends FVHS now. My son struggled through high school, and the teachers there did everything they could to help him earn the credits needed for graduation. This school and the teachers there are the best.

I went to FVHS for 3 years and I loved it. The teachers were more than willing to help with any problems a student may have had. The sports programs were great (the teams may not have all been the best but the experience was amazing.) And the clubs at the school were very active. If I could go back to High School and live it all over again, I most definitely would in a heartbeat!

I have both of my teens attending school here. Out of the three years that we have been here we have only had one teacher with questionable teaching practices. I'm impressed with the all of the staff from the front office to the classrooms. Kids are happy , I'm happy.

I just graduated from this school in 2008. It is an ethnically diverse school in a great area. The parents are very involved with extra curricular activities and so are the teachers.

All I have to say about this school is that, if it wasn't for being the the Marching Band I would have never survived the High school experience. The students and directors are awesome. Best thing about High school. Now for the other teachers, they are not so good.

I graduated from FVHS. It was a great school with caring teachers. I ended up going to UCLA for an advanced degree, and learned crucial study skills from FVHS.

This school has a friendly environment. Since it is so big, students do not care about popularity and such. This school is quite famous. Its concert band performed in the Rose Parade, and also was able to make a float. This school has lots of different activities, from archery to surfing to breakdancing. However, due to its reputation, the classes are tough. There are AP classes that last 6 days a week and the students are majorly depressed since there is so much homework.

Want to improve this school's profile?

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
