Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

A community oriented school with excellent teachers that really care about their kids' education and creating well-rounded people. Overall, it is a good school. My daughter has been going there since kindergarten and now she is in 6th grade. She is really sad that it is her last year in this school.

The campus is nice and new, though the design seems institutional to me. In the past 4 years I've seen really good teaching talent leave, due to district policies and principal turnover, while many of the teachers who stay on board seem out of touch with students. Notices are OFTEN given to kids with incorrect information - or due the same day they are given, however if a child fails to turn something in on time they are practically shunned by the staff and not allowed to participate in activities. Front office staff also has a reputation for showing a coldness to the students and I have experienced it on several occasions as a parent. The 3rd principal in just 4 years, seems to have a good relationship with kids, however communication with parents is severely lacking and the phone system directory doesn't even recognize her name when trying to contact her. This school has always had a good reputation, despite the fact that it is in Hayward, however the API scores and my own experience have demonstrated severe need for improvement.

Since my son transferred here , the quality of education is better. This is the best school in the Hayward Unified School District. The leadership is very good. Communication is great with the parents.

East Ave provides a wonderfully challenging and yet fun loving atmosphere for our young children to thrive in. I have both a 3rd grader and a Kinder and both are performing well above class level. I deeply appreciate all the 'extras' that East Ave provides such as a truly dedicated faculty, library, computer lab, science, music, drama, and special after school art and foreign language programs. Kudos to Coach for all the extra sporting activities. I believe all these things reach kids through different means and help them bond with the school and work that much harder.

I was very skeptical of having my son go to school in Hayward. It is not typically known for having a great education system. However, I am thrilled to have my son at East Avenue. He is learning, thriving, the teachers and parents are very involved and it's a partnership. There are lots of extra curricular activities and the amount of things that the kids are learning is phenominal!

My older one is in Grade 1 (considered advance in her class) and younger one is in KG (considered very bright). Very good school, good discipline, brilliant teachers who work with you to make your child even brighter. Main thing is any school can be BEST as long as parents are involved in their education as well. We love this school.

East Avenue is extremely well-organized and well-run. As a public school teacher myself, I recognize a highly functional school when I see it. Hats off to Ms. Brooks and her staff of talented, dedicated, and collaborative teachers. I have no doubt that my daughter is in the best of hands. Although I find their homework policy to be overly-rigorous for primary grades, I understand the testing-mania of the country that prompts it, and my daughter's math and English literacy is thriving.

Excellent opportunity for students to grow and encourage their personal interests through exceptional teachers, educational field trips, early introduction to computers and a well established music program. Above average parent participation has significantly contibuted to establishing east avenue as one of the best public schools in the hayward unified school district evidenced by hundreds of parents applying for intra district transfers each year.

East Avenue is so far a very good school with great organization skills. They have the children very well behaved, The only thing that I wasn't happy with is one teacher but I think it had to do with a racial issue but other then that east avenue is a wonderful school.

We have had a very positive experience at East Avenue. The parent participation is excellent. When we have had issues with teacher/student fit, they have responded quickly and positively, allowing both of my sons to move to classes where the fit was better. The music program is excellent, with my older son making huge progress with no supplementary classes. While some extra GATE opportunities are available such as science and art, it is relatively limited. We have taken advantage of the bridge classes to get supplemental reading help. My youngest son is struggling, so I will be learning more about what options will be provided to help him catch up. The year round schedule has been wonderful as it has limited the amount of review time at the start of each year and has given us great vacation options.

East avenue is an excellent school with major parental support. The parents are the driving force here, almost private schhol-like. The principal is committed and the staff is dependable. The student as well a teacher population could be a tad-bit more diverse, but overall, I love it.

East Avenue is by far one of the most challenging and academically developed schools in the hayward school district. I transferred my child from private school and enrolled her in East Avenue and am extremely pleased with her improvements.

East Ave. is dedicated to open communication between parents and the administration. The principal and teachers are very committed to making sure that parents are aware of their childs progress, and developing a plan to help them succeed. The parents at the school are also very active through PTA and other activities. I highly recommend this school to any parent who puts a premium on your child's school being very active in helping them to succeed.

The level of teacher commitment is very high at East Avenue. There aren't many after school programs and the fields and school could be used by the community. I wish the school had a web site so I could see when vacations are, etc. Also, they give out too much candy for rewards, especially in PE and in the classrooms.

We love East Avenue School! Despite the district's financial and leadership problems, East Avenue manages to inspire its staff and teachers to provide quality education. The parent involvement is strong and the programs are amazing such music, science fair, computer lab, Big Buddies, bank day, and many others. I have heard of many families transferring to East Avenue, including a family from a private, parochial institution. I believe that the future of East Avenue school is bright and applause those parents and teachers who are making a difference in the well-being of our school.

I chose to get a transfer from our neighborhood school to have my two girls attend East Avenue. This is an exceptional school. In a less-than-stellar school district, this school shines bright! The leadership in the school is fantastic, there is a great amount of parent involvement. The year-round schedule works out well. They strictly monitor violence (no tolerance) and respect levels between students, as well as adults. I have recommended to friends, and they have acted on it, to send their children to East Avenue...they all agree with my feelings. Great school. We are very happy.
