INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

One of the best schools I have ever known. The Principal is amazing-always smiling and encouraging. She inspires all that she meets, from the children, to the parents and staff. The teachers are wonderful. It all starts from the top down. I love that there are specialists, from science to art/music , spanish and pe. There is also a great number of clubs and extra curriculum activities the kids can enroll in. It's been a few years since my children have attended this school and there has not been a day since, that I don't wish that my kids are still there! This is an amazing school. I believe that they are teaching the whole child. It is challenging and encouraging on many levels. The kids work at their own pace, to an extent. The curriculum is center based. It encourages learning in different ways. The amazing thing is that parental involvement is highly encouraged! I believe that 's what makes a great school. If parents are interested in their child's education, the more the child will be more interest in learning. The child that leaves this school will be well balanced academically and socially.

I am the proud mother of two very happy children attending Livermore Valley Charter School. My daughter has been to four schools including a Montessori, and Catholic school and says she's never been more challenged, or engaged than at the LVCS. She is an honor roll student for 7 yrs of schooling. She LOVES it! My son has been to 2 schools and also loves the LVCS the most. What can I say other than, its a great school, and if you are on a waiting list, stay on it, its worth the wait, i PROMISE!

Our school has a lot going on. A lot of parents volunteer so the school can do so much more. The principal has a lot of energy and puts the students and teachers first. I am not sure how many elementary schools have an art, Spanish, music, art and PE specialist. LVCS does. LVCS also has relatively small class sizes, and coupled with parent volunteers, kids can get individual attention. We love our school.

Best school we've ever attended! We've had our kids at Valley Christian, Our Savior and Smith Elementary...and by far this is the best school ever. The staff is highly skilled at every level from the custodian to the Principal! The focus is on the kids and education..with a passion. Special kids are included in all classes and activities...in our private schools the special kids were isolated to one classroom and one special ed teacher. Gifted kids are also included in all classes and activities...they are not elevated above others as they were at Smith school. LVCS is diverse in population because it does not pull kids from one central neighborhood as the local public schools do. The only downside to this school is that it is constantly put down by the other parents, teaches and teachers unions at local schools and it's unfair to our kids, parents and staff. We were on the waiting list 6 years before our kids got in to the school and we are very thankful. With 600 kids on the waiting list..I'd say this is an excellent school! After you get one child in, then the other children will be moved up the waiting list. It's worth the wait.

I can not say enough about how wonderful this school is. I have a child with learning disabilities and the resource staff here is more than I could have ever dreamed of for my child. I love how involved all the parents are and how open the communications is between faculty, admin, and parents. A day never goes by that I don't know what is going on in the school. My children come home with new bits of information and they are so excited to share what's going on in the classroom and what they are learning now. I just can not get enough of this school.

LVCS exceeded our expectations! With the music, art and spanish classes that are a part of every day curriculum! It has been such a wonderful transition from our neighborhood school. My boys are getting so much more at our school than they would be at a district school. The families at LVCS are very enthusiastic and donate so much of their time to help our school be what it is. FANTASTIC!

Wonderful principal and teachers, involved parents make our school a positive experience for our children. Yes, there are definitely areas to be improved. I'd like to see a better response from the principal(s) when it comes to dealing with bullies. We have many areas at our new campus that have yet to be improved. It seems many things were promised and yet haven't been delivered in the 9 years my children have been in attendance. Will they be in place by the time my youngest is an 8th grader? I think the problem mainly lies in the CEO of TVLC. How long will we wait to see an auditorium and sports fields and a secure campus. We also need updated desks, science and art tables. Our new library is lacking in size and seems to not be considered as important a resource by the CEO as it should be. Despite these concerns, our school has the most devoted teachers. Our children benefit from looping in grades 1&2, 3&4. We have specialists who teach music, Spanish, art, phys ed and science. An active PTO who coordinates many enjoyable envents for our school community. The teachers and principal are the best thing about our school.

I feel very lucky that my children are students at LVCS. This is a school that utilizes modern, innovative teaching methods; continuously evaluates and changes strategies as needed in order to improve; employs outstanding, enthusiastic teachers and administrators; keeps my kids safe; utilizes parent involvement very effectively as an educational tool; and strives to provide the best possible education for it's students. In the spirit of continuous improvement I give the school 4 out of 5 stars, because there is always room for growth! The truth is, having the opportunity to send my kids to this school was literally like "wining the lottery". It is the best possible education I can attain for them.

I am so thankful for this school! The teachers are superb - and always go the extra mile for my kids. In fact, just this morning my daughter was talking about how fun her school is, and how lucky she is. There is a lot of support for parent involvement and communication. I have volunteered with classes at all grade levels, on various projects, and have not meet one teacher that I did not like. They are all very present, and work hard to keep things fresh and interesting. The teachers work within their grade level and with the levels above and below them to make sure students are learning what they need to - and staying on track. Add to that weekly Spanish and Art starting in first grade, weekly P.E. and music starting in Kinder, along with Science and after school clubs - this school excels at every level. The principal is very available to parents. If there is a school issue, or student issue, she has set aside time to address whatever questions you may have. We are very lucky.

I am very proud to be an LVCS parent. Besides our high standards and achievements academically, our school offers our students an enriching integrated curriculum that includes Art, Music & Spanish. A curriculum that is usually found in Private and not Public schools. Skills learned through these disciplines also transfer to study skills, communication skills, and cognitive skills useful in the strengthening of math, reading, creative thinking and visual arts skills.

Our school was founded by parents and teachers committed to giving students the opportunity to have access to specialists in science, Spanish, art, music, and physical education teaching them every week.We want our students to meet and excel state standards. Our school is student and family orientated to involve students and families in every aspect of school life. We have just moved onto our own beautiful campus, but unfortunately we need financial opportunities, such as this one, to help pay for furniture and equipment to use on our new campus.

While no school experience is ever completely free of problems, I've been enormously impressed with how the administration of this school deals with problems head-on and resolves them equitably. Our 8th grader started here in 6th grade so I can only comment on the middle school. She has had excellent teachers with the exception of one who, because of the students' lack of progress and parents' complaints, is no longer there. That's not something that would happen so readily at a public school. Discipline problems are dealt with swiftly and fairly, and communication with parents has generally been great (although it has suffered this year when transitioning from SchoolLoop to another system). LVCS offers a great advanced math curriculum with a few 8th graders even in Algebra II, and a creative but rigorous language arts/history curriculum that challenges all levels. They stage a play and a musical every year; offer classes in both arts and technology; have an orchestra, choir and band, and an impressive number of athletic teams. LVCS manages to give a private school education at a public school on a fraction of the funding. My student and I are glad we were lucky enough to be here.

I am an 8th grader at LVCS and I think it is a good school, expect for a few things. The rules are out of line and there are too many interruptions. Some of the teachers do not focus of the task at hand and go off on tangents about their personal life. Other than that, it's OK.

Both of my grandchildren attend Livermore Valley Charter School. I attended primary and secondary schools in Livermore back when the earth was still cooling and when California schools were rated among the best in the nation. Saddy, that is no longer the case. However, the education my grandchildren are receiving at Livermore Valley Charter School seems very close to as good as the education I benefited from so many years ago. The teachers are very caring but their expectation are high and the students respond well to them. One of my favorite William Butler Yeats quotes: 'Education is not the filling of a pale, but the lighting of a fire.' This school is providing the spark.

My grandchildren attend Livermore Valley Charter School, they offer so many wonderful programs to spark the interest of the students. The teachers work so hard to provide each student with a high quality of education and life experiences to make the students well rounded individuals. The drama department put on a play with each student appling given a part in the play or able to assist with props, back drops or costumes. Last year when my granddaughter was in 4th grade the teachers worked together to provide the children with a week at a camp for students giving them a chance to interact in the great outdoors, hiking, swimming and learning about all the beauty of nature. I have been at LVCS going on 2 years now and they foster a great teacher, student, and parent / family relationship. They push for high socialistic standards (highest scoring overall 2nd grad in Livermore) and assist the kids to do the same. Teachers are open to new ideas and how they may engage the family in the whole learning experience. My son loves to go to school and pushes me to get more AR books and create math problems for him. He enjoys the different classes he attends and cannot wait to tell me what he learned in them. I see LVCS pushing out the next level of kids that will lead this country (or others) to the next level.

The teachers.... They care and teach these children at a level that rivals me personally as a parent. The school looks into the psychological, physical, and individual personality of each and every child. They do not just teach.. they inspire children to enjoy, learn and love the activity they are involved with, everyday. The teachers inspire these children through their own inspiration, and unconditional giving of themselves as teachers, mentors and people. I have personally seen how my children have been placed year to year in the next grade level with teachers that match and compliment my own childs strengths and ability. I marvel at the simplicity but yet effectiveness of the 1st and 2nd grade program, through retaining the students for 2 years with the same teacher. This method improves the ramp-up and learning curve for both the child and teacher... all while promoting a thourough and comprehensive evaluation of the students strengths and weaknesses. I highly recommend LVCS as well as the Charter School ideology as the rewards and parent participation rivals the private sector education schools. I am a proud parent, supporter, and LVCS Dragon. Thank you for your consideration of our school for this gracious award of much needed funds. Sincerely, David Kerr

This year with 3rd grade she has a chance to switch teachers for math, Friday's they have all 3rd grade PE in which the teachers have different activities to choose from. In the afternoon, she will get a chance to learn a new art activity when the class rotates with the other teachers.

LVCS has been a great school for learning... with teachers and parents that care. Being encouraged to help in the classroom, parents can stay more involved in the education of their children. LVCS has not been hit by the budget cuts because we already have had to do more with less. LVCS has not been hit with class size increases because our charter specifies the class size. LVCS still maintains specialty programs that other schools are cutting (science, art, music). I know of one student that entered LVCS reading one grade level behind his grade and in 2 years was reading one grade above.

It is a small school but very interesting to watch the students interact with the teachers. I am very impressed with the no bullying policy and the no talk down to any one policy. As a mother of 3 students and 1 alumni of Livermore Valley Charter School, I have experienced having a child in every grade; K-8th at the school. LVCS sets themselves apart just enough from their 'peer' public schools that you can't help but observe the sparkling difference. From their wide spectrum of 'specialists' classes (electives) to the extended school hours, the students are offered a tremendous opportunity to flourish academically while having fun at the same time! The school offers a 'private school' feel without the same financial expense. The atmosphere is much like a family with faculty that genuinely care about the success of your children in their classes. The school thrives on parental involvement in your child's education so there is no worry that your questions or concerns will be swept under the carpet. I look forward to continuing to be a part of the school family and the great things that are still in store for our growing school.

LVCS is more than a school; it is a community that takes care of its members. The parents watch out for each other's kids and there is an incredible amount of parent support/volunteerism in the school. Our teachers are excellent and innovative. The kids are supportive of one another and things like bullying are hardly ever seen. The kids are well behaved and polite and seem genuinely happy to be in school. Our principal ROCKS - our boards are great and there is a lot of cooperation between everyone. While other schools have been cutting back, we have specialists for PE, Art, Spanish and Music. We have a lot of after school clubs, an active PTO and very active boards. We couldn't be happier at LVCS and though it had some growing pains in the first couple of years, I think it is a major success story and deserves kudos!

I am an 8th grader at LVCS. Even though, the school is smaller then a regular middle school, I feel it is a lot better because the teachers can name every student by name, in stead of 'number 11...' Personaly, the teachers and principal, Mrs. Aderman, and Vice Principal, Mr. Weachter, care about the students. If they see someone failing, or not doing their best, they push you to do the best you can. And as someone who's not coming back next year, I can definatley say that I will miss LVCS. I feel that I couldn't have achived the things I have if I didn't go to Charter.

My Daughter is in KG and I love this school...Its almost like getting private school education here. I love the teachers, staff and principal is awsome. I would not have picked better school than this. All kids are getting education at their different level so no one gets bored or gets pushed so much. I prefer this school over pleasanton, dublin public schools.

If you are looking for a new school, take a close look at LVCS. This is a 'Charter School'. Get informed with what this really means so you know what questions to ask. Talk to the school principal, Tara Aderman. She is a straight shouted who never answers a question with a question. I like that. Good Luck!

My daughter is in 1st grade at the Charter School. I am very pleased how she progressed so far. She is doing very well in Math and Reading, beyond of what her grade. The Charter has Music and Spanish and Art.Those teachers are amazing - dedicated, passionate about what they teach. Also what I like is that elementary teachers are sharing and always checking with each other their cirriculum. They are working as a team. So it is not much a lottery - you will be receiving a quality education no matter who class you are in. I just wish that the District had more support for our school.

My three children love the Charter school, the teachers and the classes. They have had art, music and Spanish and their are many afterschool enrichment classes to choose from. My two older children have been on Honor Roll or Principal's Honor Roll since they started with the school. Middle schoolers receive laptop computers to use at home and school for all their class needs. I wouldn't send my children anywhere else. Classroom ratio's are manageable and the school day is longer than the district. A much better education. Thank you to Lon for getting the ball rolling on this school and our new middle school and high school. We wouldn't be here without you!!

This school was founded by dedicated parents who for the past 2 years fought to provide a better alternative/choice when the Livermore school district decided to close two open enrollment schools because of budget cuts. I wouldn't have my child at any other school in Livermore, public or private. In just one year of being open this school has a waiting list of 398 students I just wish that this school existed for my two older ones when they were younger. Mr. Hazelhofer's experience and knowledge in the school district allowed him to bring in extraordinary teachers and with our current principal, Mrs. Morris, this school will no doubt continue to prosper.

I had a great experience with Almond Avenue School in Livermore, so I had very high standards. However, LVCS has exceeded my hopes and expectations. The academics are good, the availability of extracurricular programs is great, and level of parent involvement is absolutely incredible. This school is truly a community, and is developing well-rounded, creative students and citizens.

Founded in Sept 2005, LVCS serves 582 students in grades K-6. Grades 7 and 8 will be added over the next 2 years. The school focuses on the individual needs and strengths of each student. Parents and Teachers give each student an individual learning plan at the beginning of the year. The curriculum is based on California Challenge standards, and is enhanced by full-time faculty in Science, Music, PE, Art, and starting next year Spanish. Teachers tend to teach with the intent of really challenging the students. The school day goes from 8 to 3:30. Afterschool programs include Drama, Orchestra, Band, Math, Science, and sports, with more to come as the school gains momentum. The campus has an extremely high level of parent involvment. The feel of the campus is very friendly.
