This school is located in the heart of lincoln heights. This school is small and contains no school culture. I would recommend this school to anyone, the teacher turnover is horrible. New teachers are hired every single year, in addition to administration. Discipline is a big issue at this school. There is plenty of miscommunication between administration, teachers and students. This school accepts students from all neighboring school not taking into consideration their behavioral record. I do not recommend the middle school, especially the high school, for those students who really want to succeed academically. Please parents consider other schools, there are way better schools out there.
Well, where do I start...first, the academic learning in this school, especially in math, is not good as abput 9 teachers, 3 deans, and 2 principles were repeatedly replaced throughout my four years. This affected me greatly as I had problems learning, usually having to do with teachers that were the cheapest the school could find. Second, there is no communication between the student body and admin. There has been multiple events that were cancelled becuase of admin. Third, the food, by sight, can be related to what I can say, fake. They have strange, yet horrid tastes. I understand that the school is poor and want money, but I completely disagree with providing us with unedible foods, keep in mind that they have tried to improve it, accounts of food poisoning have occured. I have to admit, college is attainable in this school as the college councelor is one of the best out there. She has connections everywhere and does provide you with that connection. I have to admit that I'm really suprised that she works here, but am grateful for that as well. Those that are in danger of failing discuss alternatives with the college councelor and actually reach to their goal of graduation.
Horrible! Absolutely horrific! I am so glad this is my last year. My first year here was absolutely delightful, teachers were great, administration was great, everything was perfect. Then comes my second year... I was not pleased at all when they replaced a perfectly capable teacher with a young TFA teacher who knew most certainly nothing at all. His class was like a review to HIMSELF! That wasn't the end of it sadly...This year was the worst part of all. Practically all teachers got replaced even the dean! The woman who pays the "bills" was new as well and I blame her. She fired excellent teachers replacing them with new faces including another TFA teacher ! Yippee ! She even insulted a former teacher in front of a handful of students! I am very pleased to say ... THANK YOU GOD FOR LETTING THIS YEAR BE THE LAST ONE OF MY NEVER ENDING MISERY!
I'm a student and I have been attending this schoo since 7th grade. My mom took me oout if Nightingale because I was failing and sent me to LALA in Korea Town & bst belie e it helped me out a lot. The teachers help you at all your needs and know what you need hhelp in. I'm a junior now and parents complain about the school but its their own children causing problems if they sleep in class or ignore the teacher. They should sit in the clases and see how they teach us and see that kids want to learn. If youwant your kid to get an education and make friends and go to college send them to LALA you won't regret it. 11-21-13 Class Of 2015
I am six years old. I am surprised about this school. This school is the greatest school in my whole life.
I love this school. The teachers do anything they can to help you understand and learn. Last year, 100% of the seniors went to college! I want to be just like them.
I am a former teacher at this school. I would not send my own children to this school. The administration and leadership of the school is atrocious and I am thankful I no longer have to deal with them.
i am a former student and i believe this school is ok. the area is not the best. the teachers do give up lots of their personal time to help the students. but i agree with the fact that it started going down hill on the last couple of months. they have meade lost of changes lately wich harms the students. they like to encourage you and push you because their mission is to prepare you for college and life, but dont forget to look at the other options.
i totaly agree with this school being not so great. the area is bad and there are gangsters. my nephew got confronted by one and had a very big problem due to these gangs in the school. he still attends this school. not becasue its great but because its just convinient for the parent i guess! keep in mind that not all charter schools are considered good. thats a big misconseption, do your research and check api and caseeh scores as well.
I spent 30 plus years working for public schools and I am new to the charter school arena. As an employee of this school for the last 3 years I have seen nothing but upward movement. We have smaller classroom sizes, academic rigor, accountability of all staff members, caring teachers who give up their lunch time as well as stay after school to help our students, and a caring principal and vice principal who are always out and about among the student body. As far as parent involvement, I didn't see such a strong parent community in the public schools I worked at as I do here. We have amazing dedicated parents who are greatly appreciated by staff members. We are small but strong and we are dedicated to making this a place for your child to grow and succeed. Come on by a pay us a visit we would love to show you what we are all about.
This school is great it has Excellent teachers,a Strong principal and it has amazing academic programs.
I am actually a former student of the middle school. My cousin also went here and he is currently going to Vaughn College in New York. This school definitely prepares students for college. I don't know what the parent in the last post is talking about. The teachers take time out of their personal lives to take us on field trips because they care about and want to get to know us better. We are treated like individuals, not like prisoners like at other schools.
This school has got to be one of the worse in the area. I was under the impression that being a Charter school it would be better. Turns out that it is worse than a public. They have a uniform policy but still let the kids dress up as "gangsters" allowing them to were their uniform whatever size they want. Talking to staff is unproductive as staff says they will do something about the problem and then you never hear back from them. The homework and overall work amount assigned to kids is ridiculously low, being that kids only have ONLY 15 minute homework, that's if it takes them that long to do it. They claim to be preparing the kids for college but with such little work, I honestly don't understand what college they want kids to attend because the work load assigned to them is for sure not preparing them for a four year institution. Teachers have regular trips with kids (that of course kids have to pay for) but its always to an entertainment place (movies, theme park, game) instead of going museum or something similar where they will actually learn something meaningful related to school. I'm so frustrated, I can't wait to find another charter to switch my child to.
LALA not only equips students with the skills they need academically, but also engages them in community service and teaches them to always seek justice. The students and teachers form great relationships that foster a great mentor-mentee model.
My experience with this school has been positive. There is a structured curriculum, positive discipline, teachers who care and go beyond what is expected of them, and most importantly a sense of family with students, staff members, and parents.
I HATE this school! I was a student and it was the worst expierence i ever had! I got picked on and bullied and beat up, but the teachers seemed not to care. The academics is low they teach you things you were supposed to learn 1 year before, and the teachers always get off topic and mingle with each other instead. I recomend not to send your child here because if i had to choose again between lala and public i would go with public.
I loves LALA because it is an awesome school. We have rules that help childs learn well. The teachers all have years of experience. At this school there are never fights. The school only takes 200 students so children can actually meet everyone from the school. :)
Awful school!!!!!!!! this school is not well organized they have a new principal and staff which are no help at all ....they never have a straight answer for anything , their main focus is just trying to enroll more students into the school instead of focusing more on academics, my son is in the sixth grade and they were only teaching him 5th grade stuff and i was told by the principal that at this time this was the only thing they could offer my son, so i decided to check my son out of this school, not to mention that they had me waiting for more than an hour just to give me a paper saying that they didnt have any record of my son's information at this time.....
MY SON WENT THERE FOR TWO YEARS, IN THAT TIME THE SCHOOL STARTED TO DECLINE, IVE CHECKED HIM OUT BECAUSE WE ARE SO UNSATISFIED!
i think that this is a GREAT! school like seriously probably one of the greatest things for me this year it might be my first and my last year there but i still think its great! we are like all a big family you know everyone and you never get left out. The classes are small so you dont have to worry about getting stuck in the back. The teachers are sooo understanding and they explain stuff so perfectly!i just really love this school! man! LALA YOU ROCK!:D
