A good school. Very nice community. Parents and teachers very involved. The only thing that would make it a GREAT school is if the District would give them more funding so they did not have to fundraise so much, weekly fundraising!! Too much for a little kindergarten student to HAVE To bring $3-5 every Friday!!! LAUSD help Elysian.

My son has been going to Elysian Heights since kindergarten, it was the perfect transition from Baxter Montessori to across the street. He really likes his school, other than complaining about too much homework! It's been an overall pleasant experience, the campus is tucked away in a quiet, Echo Park neighborhood with lots of trees. There are two free after school programs to choose from. My son has liked all of his teachers, loved the former principle Ms. Herrera and loves his current teacher Ms. Gallo, who is very meticulous and involved with her class. All the staff I've met have been really nice and genuine. I highly recommend this school if you live in the Echo Park/Silver Lake areas.

This school is a treasure! After extensive research, we decided to enroll our daughter in Elysian Heights Elementary; we are so very HAPPY she is here! There are so many reasons why this is a fabulous place to learn: excellent teachers, dedicated Principal & Vice Principal, small class size, involved parents, beautiful campus (mature trees, a big garden, grass for the kids to play on), FREE aftercare program, HAPPY & WELL-BEHAVED students, API scores that are above the State goal & are steadily improving.....the list goes on. Prospective parents, you owe it to yourself and your child to tour this campus, talk to other parents, and discover Elysian Heights Elementary.

OUTSTANDING SCHOOL! I am a proud parent of children attending this school since 2000. Thanks to the challenging academic programs they have and high expectations they set for the children so far two of my children have been recognized as Gifted from the district. Teachers and Staff are so dedicated to the children. Unfortunately because of the budget cuts to our education we have lost outstanding teachers and our former principle but because the school continues to have excellent teachers, staff and strong parent participation it allowed for our new principle to have a smooth transition and with her experience and strong leadership the school continues in providing top level of education and family environment that our children need. My last child has 4 more years there and I plan to continue being involved and a strong supporter of our school in the years to come.

This school is great. There are nice children and involved parents. They have a terrific free after-school program (LA's Best- the best thing to happen to me since going back to work!). The campus is charming with a large garden and mature trees. It also happens to be across the street from a very good pre-school (Baxter Montesorri) and new coffee shop. My son is in 1st grade and is meeting all the learning benchmarks for a six-year-old (reading 60 words per minute, multiple digit adding and subtracting, writing complete sentences, etc.).

I have a kindergartener in school here and he loves it! The playground, the teachers, the staff are great to work with. It's safe and a secure enviroment, as well as well-runned with a great deal of respect for everyone on campus. Also, most important, he is academically challenged everyday.

My oldest daughter is in the 3rd grade this year and the youngest just started kindergarten with my oldest daughter's kindergarten teacher. It is a great school. Great teachers, super safe and sweet environment with nice kids, small manageable size, very high academic standards. Starting school this year was so great - seeing so many teachers and kids that my daughters know and love (and the supportive parents).

People should be beating down the doors down. My daughter now in 4th grade has loved this school every year more than the previous. Clean, well run, happy kids, great teachers, exceptional API scores, and in a wonderful neighborhood setting. What more could you ask for?

Although not the best placement for young children with mental disabilities, an outstanding school academically speaking. Beautiful campus.

My grandson transferred to your school from central CA in 2003. Last week I visited and was very impressed with the physical aspects of the school, its decor, cleanliness, and especially, and most importantly, with his teacher and the school's general office staff. Everyone was friendly, helpful and professional. The LA Best Program is a definite plus to my grandson's school experience. I am glad my grandson is a 5th grader at Elysian Heights Elementary School. Thank you.

My daughter is in Kindergarten and is having an excellent experience at the school. There is a big emphasis on the Language Arts and Math. I have observed that all the kids in her class are learning and seem very happy. Overall my child is getting a good education in a beautiful school, in a beautiful setting with one of the smallest class sizes - 15 kids in LAUSD.

Profile Completeness

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
