I used to come to this school about 8 years ago. it was on of the first public schools i have ever been too. My first teacher Mrs.Sherman was the best, I loved the silkworms. My 2nd teacher Mrs.Cavache was the first mexican teacher i ever had xD. Although she lleft. I also loved show and tell in Mrs.Lee's Class. Then there is Mrs Weller. The strict yet caring teacher. Class of 2008..i think. Oscar,Savannah,jaime, Ryan. I remember them all. it was one of the best schools. I really recommend. I really hope this comment gets to the teachers. I am in highschool now, And i wouldve never gotten here if it wasnt for them.

After going through two school changes (from charter to private), landing at Rockdale was like a breath of fresh air. Who knew that such a little gem was right around the corner from us? The principal is a dynamo and really fights for our kids. They are 100% committed to incorporating arts into the curriculum -- they have a full orchestra and instruments! My daughter has had more field trips and enriching experiences than during her first 3 years at a charter and then a private school. Rockdale rocks!

We just moved to this school and my kids already love it. The staff and parents are very friendly. I tried enrolling my children at Dahlia heights and the Principal was very nice when she thought I only had one child and she was gifted. When she found out she had a brother, she stopped being nice to us when I couldn't tell her whether he was gifted or not. My son's test scores just came back and he's actually within the 94th percentile. Well, she missed out on two smart kids that could raise her scores up. Rockdale treated my kids with respect!

Rockdale Elementary School is a great school for all children that want to learn and began to learn. This school teaches student how to respect others and how to deal with bullies.When my 5 and 6 year old son came to Rockdale Elementary,they were shy,an out cast,and they keep asking to go back to old school.With the first 2 weeks at Rockdale ,they were having fun and start to open up to me and raise their hand in class.Im a proud mother of two boy thanks to Rockdale Elementary.Noe my 6 years old can read and write little prases like "I love you mommy and for ever" Truely Your, Kelsey D

This is our home school, so naturally, we assumed it would not do. We heard great things about Dahlia, applied with an SAS application, got accepted, and then got strung along for weeks by the principal. So we ended up at Rockdale and I have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised. Mrs. D, the principal, rocks in every way. She is very caring, energetic, smart, and positive, and she never misses a beat. My son's teachers also turned out to be fantastic, my son proclaiming his love for them on a regular basis (NOT the case with preschool.) And other students are also great kids -- I've seen on more than one occasion older kids being really sweet to the kindergarteners. The school's focus on the arts is definitely something of a feat in this budget-slashing climate, and I'm grateful for their commitment to it. Sure, there are some things I think could be improved, clearly the result of cuts in staff, but that's why parents need to be involved. The teachers I've met are really great--experienced, nurturing and determined, and I dare say quite creative given the amount they give considering the amount they receive. (Wake up LAUSD!!) Overall, I'm pleased with our little gem of a school.

I really like this school. My son's teacher's, Mrs. Reyes and Mrs. Le Savio are fantastic. Mrs. Reyes has seen my son's strengths and for that I am grateful. My son enjoy's learning and being involved in both classrooms. Thanks teacher's for making a difference.

My son is currently in the third grade, and has been attending Rockdale since kinder. The teachers and staff are very dedicated in making Rockdale a safe & fun learning environment for the students, and not to mention the wonderful arts program they offer.

Rockdale is a dream school. Our daughter attended from k-3 and loved it. The teachers are a most caring bunch and the administration is awesome! This truly is a top-notch public school. I cannot rave enough about the Visual and Performing arts programs, the music programs and the overall education! Thank you Mrs. D!

I am just finishing my sixth grade year here at Rockdale. It has been so wonderful since I started to come to Rockdale which was in March 2002. I had so much fun and the arts program is so awesome. I think at other schools they wouldn't have any of these kind of activities like Rockdale.

Rockdale is an absolutely AMAZING school! The teachers are dedicated and the leadership is in a class of its own. The students have an ARRAY of programs and activities to choose from and their Arts Programs are well planned and ahead of the game (well, atleast here in the west coast). The school has received numerous recognition by many agencies including the very prestigious BRAVO award. No complaints here!

My son is just finishing up his kindergarten year at Rockdale. He has had an amazing year academically and behavior wise. Rockdale really puts a lot of focus into their art programs. My son really enjoys the after school cartooning class with Mr. Weller.

Our child had an outstanding kindergarden year at Rockdale. This is a superbly run school with a wealth of after-school enrichment classes in art, french, gymnsatics, etc. The academic program is excellent and is infused with all four art disciplines at every level. There are numerous field trips for every grade level throughout the year. The principal, Mrs. De Bond Vargas, is also fantastic and extremely energetic and accessible. I'm not even getting paid or anything; we are just very impressed and enthusiastic parents.

I LOVE Rockdale! The Principal (DeBondVargas) and Vice Principal (Koff) are wonderful! They support the teachers, students and parents beautifully. Rockdale has great Family Night activities and really works hard to bring everyone together. I can't think of anything negative to say.

This school provides wonderful learning experiences for both of my children (they each attended since kindergarten.) The administrators are kind and funny but firm. The majority of the teachers are dedicated educators and their love of learning is infectious. The kindergarten teachers are especially talented (at least one of them is nationally credentialed.) Rockdale has a Fine Arts program and it provides kids with chances to learn more about music and art than they typically would in a public school setting. To be fair, I do have one complaint. It seems to me that most teachers assign unreasonable amounts of homework.

About the tests


In 2012-2013 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
