I hate to say it but, I'm an alumni from Theodore Roosevelt High Class of S66. I recently had the opportunity to visit the school grounds and I felt embarassed to see it in such a horrible shape, from if you want to call them students that to me they're nothing but trash to the faculty, but, I couldn't tell who were the students and who was the staff, they all looked the same; it's no wonder they have the highest uneducated and low number of graduates oh but they hold the highest in pregnancy. What a disgrace of institution. Since the standards of education were lowered so were lower of people attending the school and staff as well. Can't even rate the school

i am a parent of a current attending child. we are currently checking him out. there is to many cholos, gangsters. he was being jumped and threatened. the school is to crowded and hasto many old things. if u ask me roosevelt need a makeover. dont attend this school. if you have an opptunity to attend a better school do it. i would not even give this school as a suggestion. DONT ATTEND ROOSEVELT HIGH SCHOOL

My child attended this 'building' because I definitely can't call it a school for a short period of time. The school was extremely over crowded; dirty and the faculty lacked some serious training/education. Coming from a private school to this pathetic place was a nightmare. Good luck to the kids that attend, if you don't put forth the effort you will definitely fail in this place.

I believe that a true leader makes the best out of what they are provided. Roosevelt provides me with a home and the warmth I need to succeed. Yes, I understand that being one of the largest schools in America, Roosevelt is overcrowded and lacks both parent and student particiaption. But students shouldn't discouraged by this. When my peers had no motivation to succeed, I did. I've had self-motivation and a will power that will get me far. I am currently the valedictorian at Roosevelt and I can proudly say that this school has prepared me for great things. I have been accepted to MIT because of not only my achievements but also the support that staff at Roosevelt provided. I disagree with those who blame Roosevelt for their lack of preparation. There are many resources at Roosevelt, one just has to go in search of them. Go Rough Riders!

I am a former student. This school did not prepare me well for college. If it wasn't for the magnet program and one good counselor I would have overlooked applying for college. Although I was accepted to a university I struggled academically. Please go somewhere else, but If you have no other alternative but to attend this overcrowded school, you need to keep yourself afloat. You can easily fall through the cracks due to the overcrowding.

It's an over crowded school. The principal does not get the help she needs. Money is more important than the quality of service the students receive. Typical of company greed.

I think Roosevelt is excellent. It's rich in cultural and it has amazing school spirit! The acedmics are wonderful and I really enjoy the school. I feel safe.

Roosevelt is a great school, with the teachers and the parents leading the way the school will be an even greater school than it already is. They have wonderful programs, such as cartoon animation and Television news, check out their website www.rooseveltlausd.org and check out the videos of the Rough Rider News.

Now that I am a Roosevelt alumni I feel I am able to add some of my insight about it's current standing and progress. Quite frankly I take pride in saying I am an alumni. I disagree with the complaints about Roosevelt not meeting it's students needs. This is altogether outstanding school, with teachers who are committed to giving their students all the support and help they need to succeed. We seem to forget that in past few years we have had students go to Ivy league schools like Brown and Harvard, not to forget the many like myself that are attending UC's. So we clearly see the potential is their, parents and students need to learn that they need to get involved and stop blaming the school for all their problems and learn to take responsibility.

I think this school has very good teachers that inspire students but while I attended this school it was over crowded and the students had a very bad attitude. I think that the school curriculum is perfect because students can graduate a year faster if they try hard enough because of the 8 classes instead of 6.

I have to agree also that there is very little parent involvement, and that some students do not tell their parents about events in school that parents are welcomed to go to. The only parents I see are those who's kid is involved in football, and drill team...There are also Alumni people who come and help out, because we believe in the spirit of Roosevelt and we try to help out any way we can...One thing that I've noticed is they are cleaning up the campus very nicely...They've taken away some of the fences that do not need to be there, and they have been re-painting and adding more school colors to the buildings...In my opinion things are slowly looking up

They have academic programs, but not enough and not offered to everyone, students need to look and bug counselors for guidance. Their football team has a great team of coaches and the program is going up.Parents need to be very very involved in order for their children to succeed. Counselors are overwhelmed with amount of students assigned to them and can't counsel or encourage children on what to do or to strive to do better and meet the requierments for college/technical career.

As a student at roosevelt and a part of the magnet program. I feel that the magnet teachers are a big help in pur lives in school and outside of school. Yes, I agree that parents are not involve much but that's because the students don't care as much either. It's the student that decides whether to tell their parents about report cards or parent night. I believe that Roosevelt overall is a great school but it is the student that decides their future.

About the tests


In 2012-2013 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
