All teachers are required to to have a teaching certificate, M.A., EdD., or the equivalant. Rabbinical ordination with at least 4 years of Kollel study is equivalant to a PhD. Two years of Kollel and ordination still requires a teaching certificate. The school is very strict as to teaching and prerequisites. That said, much emphasis is placed upon continued education.
Amount of homework:
There are no "one size fits all" approaches toward homework at Shaarei Torah. Each student is is initially evaluated from acceptance to to graduation in order to insure that his/her program is arranged toward their success. Homework is never assigned unless there is a great need. Our students have rigorous enough day. That said, for extra competent, in Limudei Kodesh, the boys have a night seder.
Message to families
Although we hope that a new building for girls will be forthcoming, Rabbi Steinberg's involvement as consultant and Rabbi Emeritus is more than worthwhile. The info needs to be updated as well.
We are anticipating a full array of curriculum choices by this Spring. Additionally, we are adding a course on world history as it has been suggested by Rabbi Shlomo Rottenberg, z"l. We have always regarded the High School and College. as leaders in the area of teaching by demonstrating. The school inputs the ideal that honesty, fairness, and integrity are not merely subjects to be studied, rather they are on mandate of the way we must live.
