My son loves school and doesn't want to miss a day. His teachers have been caring and dedicated, and the curriculum is infused with so much intention. Everything at Highland Hall is carefully thought out to create the healthiest, most well-rounded and conscious educational experience. It's been a wonderful experience so far and I look forward to many more years at Highland Hall.
At our school, students I know are fully engaged in the deeply thought-out and well-rounded curriculum. Teacher commitment, dedication and attention to the students' developmental and academic needs are impressive. The school community including committed staff and parents makes this a safe, beautiful and culturally diverse place to pursue education from early childhood to high school.
Our son is thriving at Highland Hall. We have been at the school since kindergarten and can't imagine being anywhere else. He is fully engaged in his academic subjects like math, geography, mythology, ancient civilizations and equally engaged in orchestra, winds, crafts, woodworking and games. His class teacher, who travels with them through the 8 years is a caring, utterly devoted, gem of a teacher. On top of everything else, the school is an oasis of acres of green rolling hills, grass and trees. Whole soul education not found anywhere else in LA that I am aware of.
I'm so thrilled with the academic achievement, the grounded sensibility, and the well thought through viewpoints that my children are exhibiting from their education at Highland Hall. We've been at the school for over 9 years and I am loving it more and more as I see how the Waldorf curriculum is guideling my children's education.
We love Waldorf education! We moved our three children to Highland Hall Waldorf School and have been thrilled with every aspect of the school. The children are thriving in their new school. As soon as we walked on the campus, we just felt the warmth of the community, the staff, and the teachers. We have visited many Waldorf schools and this one seems to have grabbed our hearts!! We love Highland Hall. ~The Rascon Family
Highland Hall is a school that has beautifully serene tree filled grounds, a garden, and plenty of space for children of all ages to run around. I feel like my children and allowed to be children there. They play, they learn, and most importantly, I feel like the love of learning is fostered here. Questions and critical thinking are encouraged. Music and art are taught. My children have flowered while being students here. I would encourage anyone to visit the school and see firsthand what a beautiful place it is in every sense of the word.
Highland Hall's beautiful setting and sane, balanced perspective on education, has made my lifelong school hater, a school lover.
Our child started kindergarten at our local community public school. It felt like a prison -- they locked the gate minutes after the bell rang and we never got to speak to our teacher. We switched to Highland Hall and we've never looked back. It's like an oasis of shaded trees and natural beauty in the Valley heat and blacktop. Teachers are extremely experienced -- a high school student at this school babysits for us now and she had the same teacher as our child. Something that seems amazing about the school is that teachers get more time away from our kids while specialists teach them a few key subject areas. It's too much to ask to have public school teachers prepare and teach everything, so I appreciate that these teachers get breaks and time to polish themselves as well as their lessons. It shows. Waldorf schools have a strange governing system without a clear principal/leader, so I gave a low score to principal leadership because of the lack of a figurehead. Nonetheless, the teachers seem on the same page and work together across the grades to ensure an integrated education unlike any other school. What they learn one year really does get built upon in the next.
This is a beautiful deep education. I have been more and more impressed by Waldorf education and this school with each passing year of my 9 years here.
My school is wonderful! I love the peaceful atmosphere, the extremely dedicated teachers and the way the treat our children with reverence. This way of teaching will make sure my child will become the best possible human being and will have a life-long curiosity and love of learning.
My daughter's been here since kindergarten--she is now in 7th grade and we will probably continue through 12th. HHWS is like a second home to us now. But like any other school, it is not impervious to trials. But on the whole, it is a lovely school, if you're looking for a place that would nurture your child.
Highland Hall is an educational oasis. The Waldorf curriculum is a gift I wish for every child. I see how incredible, first hand, the effects of this education are. After years of being taught to THINK and CREATE, my child is smart, artistic, and thinks in such unique ways--qualities that I know today's world require!
Highland Hall is a true treasure. My daughter started kindergarten and is now in the 11th grade. We couldn't be happier with her experience in this school. While it may seem that academics start off a bit slow, it is done with a purpose and the kids quickly catch up. In the younger years, Waldorf education focuses more on creating a foundation for a positive experience in learning, allowing the children to develop socially and emotionally, which so many other schools seem to neglect. My daughter loves her school and the community that comes with it. She is very involved and we are very proud of the kind and generous person she's become as well as her academic achievements. Visit a high school open house so that you can see the level of quality education this kids are getting. Visit the kindergarten to see the nurturing surroundings and teachers. It's simply magical. Highland Hall graduation ceremonies are like nothing I've ever seen. Kids graduate with such enthusiasm, confidence and readiness for the world's challenges. We've been there through the good and troubled times, but have never felt there was a better place for my daughter to be than in Highland Hall.
HIghland Hall Waldorf School is a wonderful oasis where children are being educated in a loving, creative, spiritual environment. The setting is ideal: spacious campus with nature all around, a working farm where the children learn about gardening and nature. In addition to all the traditional curriculum, ALL children take music lessons and participate in dramatic playes, poetry recitations and dancing. According to the latest neuro-science studies such activities promote a healthier brain and better executive skills. Visit this school as son as you can, it includes a pre school, kindergarden, elementary and high school. This school will make your child bloom!
Highland Hall is the ultimate example of teaching all ages of children with "Head, heart and Hands" in mind. Located in a beautiful setting with rolling hills, green grass and beautiful trees, it feels like a refuge amidst the hustle, bustle and smog of Los Angeles. Placing as much importance on the arts as academics, the school epitomizes a well rounded educational experience.
We found Highland Hall nearly 10 years ago when our daughter was a baby. The parent/toddler program encompassed a sweet, nurturing environment for babies & toddlers, as well as invaluable education & support for new parents. Our daughter then went through the nursery program & the 2 fantastic years of Kindergarten where through song and play in a loving home like environment allowed her time to be more than ready to soak up her education she is obtaining now that she is in grade school The fact that the kids are as free of distracting tv characters, and electronic toys leaves their hearts and minds open to be creative, and to learn to think, not learn to want the next video game in a series. The children are encouraged to be a team with their classmates before they are encouraged to compete against one another, saving certain activities until the kids are older allows them to really have a full and rich childhood. Years ago, adults settled into a career, & now a person might have numerous careers in their lifetime. The ability to be creative, to enjoy learning and know how to learn as opposed to memorizing a series of facts will serve them much better in the future.
Highland Hall is an amazing school. It exemplifies Waldorf education at its finest. My daughter started there in Parent/Child classes, and is entering 3rd grade this fall. In previous years there were issues with the administration and how it handled matters related to teacher performance and communication with the community, but with the new Administrative Director, Pedagogical Chair, I have seen a huge shift in attitude, policy, and ultimately community satisfaction. I can't imagine a better place for my child to get the education she deserves. With California's public schools being rated 49 out of 50 in the nation, I am so thankful that we are at Highland Hall. If you're interested in knowing more about Waldorf education, take a tour of the school and find out. There are a lot of misconceptions out there about what Waldorf education stands for.
We have been at Highland Hall for going on 5 years and our experience has been amazing! We have all learned about an education that sees the "Whole Child" and is able to guide my daughter through every phase of her growth. The campus is an oasis in the San Fernando Valley and being part of a biodynamic culture is so rich and valuable. My daughter will be entering the 3rd Grade and her enthusiasm and love for her school is priceless. I recommend Highland Hall to anyone looking for a school that will nurture your child as well as give them more than just academics.
Well, if you want an education that nourishes the whole child, it's the school to choose. We cannot say enough about our excellent experience at this school. We highly recommend it to everyone.
Our daughter has gone to Highland Hall since the Mommy and Me days, and it has been one of the best decisions we've ever made. The school follows the Waldorf program, first developed by Rudolf Steiner nearly 100 years ago. It's fully integrative learning, offering children instruction that connects art, music, visual learning, math, and reading so that they not only absorb information but really become better learners, no matter what challenges/problems they face. The other parents have been terrific, which provides an overall community that enriches both our daughter's and our experiences. I can't recommend Highland Hall highly enough; it's a great place, presenting an education that respects the children, and all taking place in a beautiful environment.
