Don't do that, because it will only confuse the system. The preferred way is via Internet, as you'll get a confirmation immediately and there's no chance they lose it. Mailed apps were historically lost often enough to be an issue.

Can you send in both applications for echoice?
Such as on the internet and by mail.

If you are talking about a highly gifted magnet (say Portola), they will go through all HG students first from 23 points to zero. When that list is exhausted they will start again with the HGA kids starting at 23 points.

And depending on the year, both or neither might get in, since I suspect they'd be pretty close on the wait list.

What grade is your child in this year? I always encourage parents of 4th to do research, and 5th to really scout. My daughter's in 7th and we'll do some tours and a lot of online reading this year, and next year we'll be better prepared.

I guess it is too soon for me to tour middle schools this year. I always wonder how do they select the kids at highly gifted magnet? Do they select kids with highly gifted label first? And then the remaining seats go to highly gifted applicable applicants, right?

Which child will have a better chance to get in with this profile?
Child A: 4 points highly gifted, white
Child B: 16 points, highly gifted applicable, white

Thanks, MagnetMom
